Not sure if you intended that on your end but now I am reminded of this damn it.

I've seen a local with a large, ornate tattoo of that word on his forearm. "REPSEKT". Now, I know it's a common colloquialism to misspell "respect" (into "RESPEKT") to denote some kind of increased "street cred" but any half-arsed tattoist should know how to spell (and I know many will NOT "correct" their customer's requests).

True, just mentioning what you said and the misspelling errors in general is what it reminded of in general.

Or it's simply German to have more impact.
Kind of like yelling "GESUNDHEIT" into someone's face leaves a more lasting impression than "bless you".

Nope, it's definitely misspelled. The locals barely understand English as a FIRST language - the english would refer to them as "chavs". I doubt they know German, too (since it stopped being a language taught in our schools back in the 80s. Japanese replaced it.) since I tend to use it on them when they get in the way.

I went to a rather "multicultural" high school. I could swear in 7 languages by the time I left. One of them was sign language.

Oh dang it, I wouldn't have noticed if you didn't point it out, and even with you pointing it out I had to look twice to see it.
