Highly Classified doesn't really bother me, but it's definitely a case of building your list for it, and sometimes the objectives are all no fun.

I played against Onyx so I expected some hacking, but mostly wanted to play as much new stuff as I could. In retrospect, I should have opted for a ninja KHD over one of my Ryukens and Yojimbo, and spent the extra points in the Keisotsu link (maybe a missile in it would have been nice, alternatively I could have brought a regular hacker for Fairy Dust). My opponent brought an Umbra+Rodok core, Bit and Kiss, a Suryat Duo, a Q-drone (HMG) and two Ikadrons.

I opted to go first. I lost Yojimbo on the first order to an ARO from the Rodoks, but took out both the Q-Drone and a Rodok in the first turn. It turns out B5 Red Furys with ARM8 in cover are really good at shoot things. I poked out and dropped a chain rifle on his HVT with my Haris Domaru (datatracker) but had to spend 2 more orders backing up. Last order was coordinated suppressive between the Daiyokai and both Ryukens.

This left the Daiyokai Haris exposed to some cheeky repeater games. Fortunately this was enough to prevent a pitcher, but not enough to prevent Ikadrons from running up and taking out the 3 former members of the haris. I dodge engaged through a double flamethrower (which worked but was a mistake) because he just started shooting at me in CC and I couldn't do anything (and at worst he just would lose an Ikadron). He spent his whole order pool and I lost a lieutenant and a Daiyokai.

Turn two I pushed the Domaru Spitfire+Cheerleader link up, and all I can say is that the Spitfire is now a fantastic profile. It would have been better if I had a paramedic in that link, but it played really well, cleaning up the Umbra and one more Rodok. Being able to buff it up with Keisotsu you would have been taking anyway is awesome. At first I wasn't sold on this link, but now I'm pretty happy with it. From there the game was basically over, the Suryats had to deal with suppressive fire, and we called it.

Altogether though, new JSA is great. More high burst options means JSA can passingly firefight now, tons of Shock makes it way scary for one-wound armies, and the Domaru have a role now besides glueing together Haramaki missile links.

Im interested in what you guys think of these. Also thoughts on B5 red fury daiyokai or the versatility of multi marksman rifle?

The extra SWC is a much harder swing in JSA now than a month ago, but it's 3 points cheaper, has one more burst (which is always good, especially against B2 AROs), and the Red Fury is better within 8 inches, which is useful because the Daiyokai is good at CC but not *that* good.

The MMR has a better ARO, but not enough to sell me for a piece I am going to do my best to hide in my reactive turn.

All my new lists have avoided using the daiyoukai in favor of smaller pieces that can cover more ground. Ill be testing later today the viability of 2 ryuuken 9 in the midfield with mines

I do like the new domaru tanko link, since replacing the blitzen with flammenspeer on the contender profile makes them so much deadlier. However, each power armor got 1 pt more expensive and the tanko, with only ma2, got way less effective in cc. The ability to drag forward the (expensive) fo domaru is nice, but ill see if its even necessary, now that specialist saito is a thing, heh.

Cheaper oniwabanz option is soooo hermageeeeeerd. Theyre a profie im dyyyyying to try out

With Fatality L1 the Daiyokai Red Fury is basically a Shock Spitfire, which for 1 SWC is pretty good. That plus the Aragoto Spitfire are the only really SWC efficient profiles in JSA tbh, which makes them pretty interesting to me.

Have you found yourself struggling to keep your SWC costs down? I agree that both the Daiyoukai and Aragoto are SWC efficient, but their general utility, imo, isn't worth the efficiency, compared to other units. For example, a Domaru Spitfire + link is only 23 pts more expensive pointwise and 1 SWC more than the Daiyoukai, but offers a hardhitting HI with BS 15 that can shelter better at S2 than the Daiyoukai's S5; bonus, that link can be upgraded to drag along specialists for cheap, as well as help clutter up the midfield. Ryuuken 9 is only 2 points cheaper and 0.5 SWC less expensive, but starts already up the board with a mine; with ODD and minelayer at S2 that can take cover, it's way more survivable than the Aragoto, while being able to provide that much harder of a roadblock.

With the new Tankos being frankly better than the old Haramaki I haven't managed to build a list with the Daiyokai Haris so far.
Mono CCW and their amazing range of BS weapons makes it hard not to take 2x2W and the more versatile kit.

There are a few things he has going for himself. But the overall package seems by far outclassed.
Holy smokes that Flammenspeer profile is dank - HMG Range template for 0 SWC on a filler Profile? Yes please.
Personal winner remains are the BS13(BS22) LSGs with a full Core Link.

2 good Specialist Ninjas, Saito SO and Neko end up making me question the Domaru FO. Can neither find the points nor the slot for him anywhere.
On the plus side the Aragoto KHD and Spitfire really start to grow on me, would not have expected that.

Flip it back around -- the Daiyokai costs 1SWC less in an army that runs very high on SWC now, is 23 points cheaper, has an additional half-wound, is ARM5, and shoots shock ammo. I'm not saying the Kempei + Keisotsu + Domaru link is bad (it's AMAZING!) but the Daiyokai definitely has a place, especially if you're running your Keisotsu link more defensively with 2 Missile Launchers or whatever because you want to play more than 10 orders.

(Or why not both? I played the Domaru + Kempei + Keisotsu core with the Daiyokai Haris, threw the Haris at them the first turn, and then flanked with the Domaru spitfire on turn 2. Worked very well.)

Mm, yeah, the ninjas and Saito are nice; if I'm running a Domaru + Keisotsu link, not gonna bother with the Domaru FO, cuz it's too pricey. However, when I'm running with the 5-man powerball, a 10 pt increase for another specialist is nice, compared to a 29 pt increase for the reliable KHD ninja.

I HATE Keisotsu MLs. They're so easy to kill because of the 24" deadzone. It gets even worse when something as simple as an infiltrating camo unit gets into the huge 24" deadzone. Firing in the deadzone with mimetism penalties, the ML goes down to BS7 on B2, vs typically BS11 - BS13 with B3 -B4. Then, once one of the MLs goes down, which it will because of the ease of dispatch, the other ML is then firing at BS4. I'd rather actually use Keisotsu FOs as reactive pieces, since they're "BS"15 on B2 and if the opponent fails the save, they can't do anything offensive or objective until the end of the turn; they're also a loooot cheaper and don't cost SWC.

    Very much this.

I can still do my Samurai 7 list, and actually have more options now than I did before (can take the Big Monster instead of the TAG as Kikuchiyo).

What I'm really struggling to do is to find ways to avoid using the War Criminals, erm, I mean the Kempeitai. (I know those two lists I just posted don't use one, but any Keisotsu lists just about require a Kempeitai.)

I want to try this list out after I'm done testing out my various campytai war criminals (I'm glad we agree on that one, heh) lists; it seems promising, though I'm not too happy with its lack of a Husong. I'm basically counting on the flammenspeers being a huge deterrent.

Bottom line for me is that you need a very good reason not to field two SMG Ryuken-9. Such an amazing unit.

    Some other observation:
-Kempetai MSV2 is okay, but not a replacement for the Rui Shi. But it plugs into lists a lot easier than the Rui Shi does.
-Saito does it all. He's so good that he takes other respectable units and makes them look bad. Really, really good choice right now.

It's a shame his model is as unappealing as his profile is appealing.

I`m planning to use Nakadai miniature as Saito. I know he was technically Oniwaban but look different enough from regular ones.

Lol. Welcome to every other army ever. Specialists are usually sub-optimal loadouts to force you to spend more points or give up toys in order to field them. For example, Morat Zerat Hacker runs a Combi/D-charges. losing out on the LFT or E/Mitter from the generic profiles.

The logic there is that the Chain Rifle Domaru is cheap because he's vulnerable to long range. If you make hon a Forward Observer, he gains Flash Pulse, which covers his big vulnerability for very few points.

It's also probably at least part because there were so few FO options in the army before. FO Keisotsu or Karakuri were it.

I've had fun running this list so far. Obviously it did well in looting & sabotaging, dominated in rescue and annihilation. Being able to drop 4 models into suppression fire in the midfield with massive negative mods is fantastic. Coupled with minelayer profiles for when you go second to speed bump enemies I called this guy "midfield mods" for a reason.

The list lacks long range so will struggle on open tables against a strong ARO presence unless I can get lucky with the oniwaban....
