So I’ve given up on a meme list but I still have a biotechvore game next week, and my standard lots of single acting units list won’t work cause I have to evacuate the 16” zone.

So I have had a few thoughts on this mission:

Take a lot of infiltrate and forward deploy troops and roll the ph-3 hoping some will get to deploy in the middle, and then using order efficient core and Harris move everyone else out.

Everything else is either impetuous, fast, or in a core, duo, Harris, armed with shotguns for CQC.

If I have the unfortunate position to go second I intend to sacrifice some ghulam observers to slow down their advance out of 5eir deploy zone.. with wip20 flashpulses before reconfiguring my duo into the core.

Now I will preface this that somehow this Mission has never come up before for us, so I’m going in with no experience

But this is what I came up with.

Opponent will change factions on me pretty often but most likely I will face tak or but he owns 20 factions lol

I’ve been finding trouble with having too many irregular troops. Ya they do something sometimes but then I have no orders for others. I even lost the irregular due to loosing the guy on his impetuous order. He’s dead so unless i have a command token to turn it regular, it’s also a dead order. Even with fireteams it can not be enough orders.

with the exception of mcmurrough, aren't all our impetious troop also dogged too? so youd have to take multiple aros to hit that scenario, at which point canceling might be better!

I like the 4 to 6 irregular orders, it prevents me from getting tunnel vision and also slide around the table spending hunzakuts and libertos and kum irregulars while my opponent gets hit from 6 sides at once... for this match though what would you suggest? more duos? I've already got a full core and Harris and one duo.

    Go down to limited insertion?

Biotechvore is an awful mission for my playstyle.

I think having two Hunz hurt me last time and Bashi. having impetuous does mitigate a bit but the irregular still needs to be used on them unless you change it with a command token. And remember your opponent is going to try to bog you down as well.

For this mission i'd possibly go with a Hulang and/or Zhencha, possibly even Togan.

Is it worth thinking about a list built to run multiple legal cores? This is very off the cuff, but something like this could let you very efficiently move out of your DZ and actually conduct pretty significant offensive action with your primary combat group by running a core of zhuyongs with two tac aware orders, then flipping to a core of ghulams with the remaining five models just to evacuate the DZ easily.

Second group is banking on impetuous orders, coordinated orders and passing some confused deployment rolls, but it can also afford to take casualties if it absolutely must:

In the name of science I say let’s do it!

I made a few tweaks to your concept by splitting the two cores into different groups, my reasoning is that if I go first and my opponent instead of stripping 2 orders instead limits my command token usage to one, the second group would be In big trouble. It’s what I would do to me!

This way I am only counting on one command token to get everyone across the finish line, so to speak.

I get to make 4 confused deploy rolls, but the irregulars are split up.

I really wanted that zuyong shotgun we keep talking about but no way to get it all in.

A couple of notes about Biotechvore:

    - Impact templates, both short and long range, are absolutely brutal in this scenario. Often there's one or two good exits to a deployment zone, and models tend to bunch up naturally when there's only 8" to work with and everyone wants to as close to the deployment line as possible.
    - Hidden deployment is pretty fantastic because it's a model you don't have to worry about exiting your DZ.
    - It's less of a problem for sectorials, but Limited Insertion is pretty powerful in BTV because you can't be stripped of orders on that crucial first turn.
    - Many armies will be relying on Smoke to get out of their DZ without taking AROs, so a good MSV2 ARO piece can absolutely ruin enemy plans.

With all that in mind, here's what I'd probably run for Biotechvore:

As compact as possible, and with all the tools it needs to make the opponent's life hell. With a Core, a Haris, and two infiltrating models with PH13, you should have plenty of orders left over to do some killing or set up some nasty ARO traps once you get into the midfield. The Zuyong ML combined with the Brawler MSV2 Sniper mean that almost no exit plans will go unchallenged, and are quite likely to disintegrate completely. You've also got the HMG to brute force your way through any enemy attempts to slow you down, and with two TacAware orders to facilitate exiting the deployment zone, it should be extremely difficult to pin down the Core team. Meanwhile the Haris can handle almost anything the Zuyong can't, and also have a Doctor tag along to revive anyone who goes down along the way, making sure you have plenty of army points at the conclusion of the game.

Saito and the Zhencha offer extremely potent midfield presence and can accomplish a pretty good number of classifieds between them. Saito's Smoke can also form an exit corridor if you somehow can't take out a nasty ARO piece. Miranda is kinda there to fill points, and you can opt for the Boarding Shotgun profile if you wish, but she rounds out the Zuyong team nicely either way.

This list might struggle a bit with heavy hacking, but it's got enough non-hackable pieces (and a TinBot B) that you should be able to clear the way for yourself with a bit of maneuvering. It may also struggle against perimeter weapons, though beyond those that successfully Infiltrate you can hopefully lock those in the enemy deployment zone.

It's certainly not perfect, and mostly I just wanted to present a solid alternative to the typical ultra-wide Dahshat approach for this particular mission. Go with whatever your tastes dictate.

I agree a lot on this if you are going first. I forgot that in my last game being stripped of two orders really hurt! I went from 6 orders to 4 and that team had little it could do. I would definitely take 2 orders from the pool with MrMurough. Leaving that pool only 3 orders to do use regular orders. He may not suffer much but the rest of the team would. I think if you win the roll off, choose deployment and go second.

I like a lot of your points, but I am curious about this line:

How does hidden deployment help with btv?

Are you proposing that you deploy hidden in your own deploy and stay hidden until turn 2? I know you won’t take bts hits while hidden but you also won’t generate order.

Yeah, that's what I propose, more or less. With Saito specifically, you attempt the Confused Deployment/ Infiltration roll with Hidden Deployment and if you fail you just go back to your deployment zone in HD.

Sure, he won't generate an order, but given that it would take a minimum of 2 orders for him to exit the biotechvore area from your deployment zone, it's a net gain. And every order is precious in Biotechvore.

If you fail your infiltration roll i think you rather come not in camo (or HD) in your DZ

Confused Deployment makes things a bit weird. Since it doesn't say anything about losing your marker state (or HD) if you fail the roll, you get to retain any of those benefits. From the FAQ:

"Biotechvore - if the Confused Deployment Roll fails, will a trooper lose the Camouflaged or Impersonation state? And Deployable Weapons or Equipment?

Only if the Special Skill would have required a Roll, for example if using Infiltration to deploy beyond the middle line of the table, or Impersonation to deploy in the enemy Deployment Zone."

Sounds like it would only happen if you are trying to deploy beyond the middle. If trying to do a normal Infiltration deploy you would not loose the marker state.

The big change is swapping the zencha for mcmorrough, for a few reasons:
    1. I am nearly done painting him and this will force me to finish!
    2. I really want to keep practicing with him in tight quarters
    3. Second smoke source
    4. Spec fire grenades
    5. Big dual chain rifles

I also since I had a bunch of points left swapped Miranda for Sforza, who will be impersonating Miranda with a boarding shotgun, again this is mostly for model and practice reasons.

Thank you everyone for your help, this has been a good thread. Let’s see how tomorrow goes!

@RobertShepherd i will try that two core thing next game, for science!

    it went well.

i won first turn Failed the CD roll for saito, but my hmg took out a hollow man right away, moved my core up to a safe space putting my missile launcher/light shotgun on a corner center field, I spent the rest of my orders on the sniper Harris taking out that new transformery biker thing, aka his only source of smoke... putting some wounds on lt, and otherwise locking down his movement,
It went so well that he couldn't get out of his biotechvore area, and got his coett e out, maybe one other model, that by the end of his turn he took 4 biotechvore rolls.

I spent 3 orders on my turn 2 dropped the lt and hollow man(again) and then he just didnt want to continue, since he was down to just a 5 man core and I had a cammoed saito within melee distance of it.

felt a little bad, I played the best I ever had, but I think it was the list that won this for me, thanks again for the advice.
