I don't know if they are going to be full faction, but a lot of people I know would be furious not to be able to play JSA in Code One. They bought the box because the mini are cool and want to play casual with it. They could say it's the generic NA2 army. It's the only one with so many troop profils that don't fit in any other faction.
Opening up army I'm not all that sure the current system of Vanilla armies and Sectorials will survive N4. The mechanical limitation of "no Fireteams" is very weird from a gameplay perspective. Good luck with that considering their entire toolkit is pretty great vs HI. But a man can dream, nothing wrong with that.
This. JSA is probably a prime seller for newcomers and it would be bonkers not to make them available in Code One.
It's also probably the roughest introduction to Infinity a newbie can have. Prime contender, possibly only contender, for highest skill floor in game.
I'd say that Code One will probably have many factions feel very samey, which is fine. JSA risks feeling very samey and small compared to other factions. That's why I personally don't think they'll be in Code One - too few SKUs that can seriously be considered essential to the game. However, I could see a vertical slice of mercs ending up in Code One with Keisotsu and Brawlers making up the generic light infantry segment, but it'd be a bit less JSA and a bit more Ikari over such a faction. Hopefully it'll also come with a generic line of heavy mercenaries so that this nonsense with Wu Ming and Zuyong stealing can stop.
Because it's "Non-Aligned Armies", not "Mercenary Companies". Arguably, we should have seen more NA2s that actually exemplified that mentality than we have.
It’s entirely conceivable for JSA to be in CodeOne, just with the same limitations as other factions. Since it was said in one of the con videos that CodeOne factions will have a limited roster, JSA could be there. I personally doubt it, at least in the beginning, but I’ll be happy if I’m proven wrong.
I hope JSA don't get axed for Code One, but fine with them staying NA2. Nomads and JSA are the main reasons I got into the game (yet I'm using Pano at my first tournament). I already bought 90% of the JSA line because I think the mini's are so cool. So as a newbie, yes, the JSA and Icestorm box were my main entry points and draws for me to get into this game. Then once I started reading the lore and learning of JSA/Uprsising I was hooked.
They are a deniably PanO sectorial. "Yes, they have PanO weapons. We sold them some. What of it?" As long as you're dreaming, would you like a Ferrari? Ehhh, I don't know that YJ is more interesting now. IA is really half-baked as an army. However, WB should be interesting. And it will be interesting to see what happens with N4. Yes, we should. I would like to see some of the other, smaller nations show up as NAA options. Nigeria was mentioned in the fluff. But I don't know who else to include.
So why not change this with N4? If you put Spiral as Sectorial to Tohaa, and make JSA either it's own factrion, or maybe put the under O-12 ("protection"), then you can make the remaining a new Mercenary Faction that has access to "Vanilla Mercenaries". Or CB yould use JSA to start a "Minor Nations" faction, like it is handled in the RPG. There you have the "Mercenaries", "Submondo", "Minor Nations" and "Corporation" instead of "NA2".
But why change it? NA2 covers factions like JSA and mercenary companies just fine. I don't see the need to reshuffle things to make it just fit mercenaries.
Infinity usually takes the granular over the generalistic apporach. Spiral and JSA don't fit in too well next to the "best of remixes" that are the Mec companies. Not against NA2 as a concept, but Mercs should just not be in it and their own thing. I'd rather have another Faction without Sectorials like Tohaa, than everything lumped in together in N4. Sectorials usually have some sort of interaction inside a faction, they're mostly a different military force within the same nation including overlap. The Mercs don't have that at all. There's no cross over or fluff related connection fot the NA2 factions. Right now NA2 is necessary as a framework in N3, otherwise you'd have to rewrite a bunch of stuff since Vanilla Factions can't access Fireteams in the way NA2 currently does without some changes.
NA2 is "Sectorials without a Vanilla" Spiral Corps are in there for background reasons, because they're a completely independent organisation and totally not a front for the machinations of the secretive Tohaa cabal known as the Triumvirate, honest guv! CB have previously confirmed that they have no desire for a "Vanilla Mercenary" faction.
Merovingia, for a start. The fluff we had with the original Paradiso Campaign book had them being extremely antagonistic to the youknowwhos to the point of the Nomads and Haqqislam effectively backing founding spaceports in Merovingia to open up trade.
So what exactly do we know now for JSA when it comes to N4? I think I heard somewhere that JSA is not getting any new models or units, can somebody confirm that? I assume profiles are going to get updated though at some point, since everything is getting rebalanced.
Pretty much, no plans to expand the faction but it's getting a balance pass for the profiles, skill updates, etc. The only thing we really know for sure is that Ninjas are getting at least one option with an SMG.
maybe JSA could become full faction if we get a big time jump between editions and the JSA to manage to develop their military and industry to catch up to the major powers or the nomads reintroduce them to anime and manga and they get an otaku sectorial.
