I've been branching out with some other armies and, since I've got new twins and don't get to play as many games as I used to, I've been keeping track of them here. Anyways, these are my Dahshat adventures.

If you want to read my Hassassin exploits, they are here.

Essentially, I figured that I'd probably end up using the Al Fasid as my data tracker because he is a toolbox that has arm 5 and can potentially take a hit and survive. I could also use the data tracker order to get smoke out for Brawler sniper if I needed it. Being immune to jammers was also a plus.

In the back of my mind, as I built this list, I was thinking about linked MSV snipers. The Kamau being the chief difficulty, but Brawlers and Haidao also come to mind. Even linked Zhuyongs or other heavy infantry with feurbachs, rockets or missile launchers present significant obstacles. Anyway, my thought was twofold. I have the Al Fasid, Bounty hunters sniper and glue cannon, along with the brawler sniper. I can coordinate all four of those to hit the linked MSV sniper with 5 dice of significant fire power. Alternatively, I have both the Al Fasid and Hunzakut lgl. While indirect fire is not always the most efficient use of orders, it is a way for my to bypass the face to face rolls against some of the best gunfighters in the game.

The other gimmick of my list is the collection of irregulars. The pairs of Hunzakuts, Libertos, and Kum riders are all my initial attack and defense pieces. 5 camo tokens in the midfield is a pain, even with sensor, they take orders to discover and clear out or get by. On my active turn I can either strike with one or more of the irregulars if an opportunity presents itself, or I can use their huge collection of mines to bog down the midfield with mines. Then, as I get towards the end of the game, I can shift the attack to the Fasid and my fireteam and I can use my dozer, doctor, and rafiq and specialists if I need it.

We played the game with the red cards because Rose City Raid in Portland later this month is using the extreme mode objective cards. I drew the one where you need to doctor the HVT. It's extreme though, so I had to take and EXTREME negative 3 to the roll.

@barakiel won the initiative roll and opted for the side with the strong position for his linked sniper to go. I chose to go first in response.

I deployed my fireteam where I thought it had the best firelanes and was on a roof of a building that had a bridge headed towards the middle of the table so that I could advance it if I needed to. The fireteam was entirely prone because I suspected that there would be some Helots with rocket launchers, so I didn't want to leave anything up and exposed to them. I placed the Kum riders on the opposite side of where I suspected my opponent would place his Kamau so that I might have an open advance up the table. If my opponent chose to counter deploy the Kum riders, then he would be giving up an excellent position to let me advance with my skirmishers.

My opponent placed his Kamau on a rooftop with a commanding view of half of the table. I was a little surprised, but I think once he saw that I hadn't brought a Zhuyong fireteam he knew that I wouldn't have the raw firepower to beat the Kamau in a face to face roll. Luckily for me, because I'd held my Al Fasid as a reserve and the Hunzakut lgl was an inconspicuous camo token, my opponent put the doctor on the same rooftop as his Kamau and a Helot.

In the first turn, my Kum riders advanced without getting shot to pieces. I tried to get my smg Liberto up the table, but he was discovered by a Helot so he hunkered down. Then I moved my Huzakut into position and got started with the dirty work of bombarding the Kamau. I was planning to spend 5 orders, hopefully knock something unconscious, and then recamo with my last regular order. Instead, I had a miraculous series of die rolls that lead to my first order knocking both the Trauma Doc and Kamau unconscious. I then spent a couple of orders to put the Helot down as well. I was able to kill a couple of other pieces and grab one of the objectives to activate the heater in my deployment zone. Also, I was able to get a Kum rider up the table, because they are super fast. I got a couple of models under the chain rifle and did manage to put a wound on his ORC, which was fantastic. Then I stood my Brawler sniper up to cover one side of the table. All in all, it was a really strong opening turn.

My opponent punched back and was able to grab an objective with his Crocman and kill my other Kum rider. He also took out my FO Hunzakut (although this may have happened in turn two). He also tried to deal with my Hunzakut, but thanks to a lucky armor roll, I was able to fall into total cover.

Going into turn two, I knew I was in a strong position, but I needed to be careful because if I slipped up, my opponent would be able to take advantage of any opening. I tried getting aggressive with the smg Liberto again, but got flash pulsed and jammed, failing all of my rolls. Then I got aggressive with the light shotgun Liberto, and several orders, a doctor roll, and two mines later I was able to kill the Crocman and failed to get another wound on the ORC. I think I put a couple of mines down and moved my Al Fasid up a little to be in a better position on turn three.

My opponent pushed back and got a couple of kills because at the start of turn three, all of my irregulars were dead, but I think I still had all twelve regular orders. He tried to grab the third objective with his Zulu Cobra khd, but failed the wip roll. I believe he also accomplished his classified at this point. Most notably, after spending a few orders maneuvering around and killing my Hunzakut, he managed to cautious move his ORC into a position where it could engage my sniper from within 32 inches. He was worried about the exchange, because it was risky. It was definitely in his favor, but if he lost, it meant his data tracker. The sniper was presenting a significant challenge to his ability to maneuver around the table and it did need to be dealt with. In arguably the most significant roll in the game, but sniper crit the ORC, rendering it unconcious.

In my last turn I spend a few orders to get my palbot up to my opponent's HVT and luckily made the roll. I ran my Al Fasid up the table, scored a couple of Zulu Cobra kills, dropped a mine, and then put him in suppression fire in the zone.

My opponent sent his last Zulu Cobra against my Al Fasid. He spent three orders shooting at close range with his assault pistol, and under weight of dice, the Fasid went down to his last order.

This put me at a solid 7-4 victory. It was an intense game, as all of mine against @barakiel are and a couple of lucky rolls definitely helped my out here. In any case, many thanks for another great game.

The LGL were both nice tools there. When I saw there were no blast template weapons in your link team, I was pretty content to deploy the Helot, Doc and Kamau close to each other, so the Helot could roll Discovers while the Kamau held against enemy Camo. I find it's a nice way to interdict Camo-heavy opponents on Turn 1, and stop them from simply sprinting the table.

Speculative Shot has almost infinite freedom in template placement though, so it demands you really space the Doctor out from your ARO piece so that there's no way you can cover both with one template. That's tricky though, since it means she has to burn multiple Orders MOV-MOVing into base to base with the Kamau. Not a bad thing... It makes the Speculative Shot a lot less apealing, but it becomes a risk-vs-order-expenditure that has to be managed.

Of course, having yoink101 land that grenade on the first attempt when my Doc and Helot were -6 off surprise shot/no LoF is brutal. You hope an opponent will simply miss in that situation, but when that grenade connects, it's pretty nasty. I'll have to think a bit about LGLs, relative positioning, etc. I have some deployment ideas for excluding that LGL, but honestly I haven't seen/heard of anyone using an unlinked, BS11 LGL in months (years?) but it's definitely a decent piece to have in the current meta.

Besides, better to deal with it now than in an ITS :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

The ORC vs Brawler made me miss Nimbus Plus. 5 on 11s vs the Brawler's 1 on 9 is a nice way of minimizing the risk vs a 1-Wound, low ARM overwatch piece.

Possibly the best/most challenging aspect of this practice game was losing the Doctor early. Operating VIRD without a Doctor is rough, and pressing for her Turn 1 is a good goal for any opponent.

Overall, I like that you used some unorthodox tools to generate surprise factor. The thing that noone discusses, but all ITS players know, is that running into unexpected choices can devastate your opponent. Even seeing your deployment, I was fully expecting Dashat's cookie-cutter (Tac Awareness Zuyong HMG, 12-point CSU filler, Rui Shi, 2x Hunzakut FOs, 2x Minelayer Libertos.) So picking table side that tries to outrange 24 and 32 inch weapons, then seeing the Brawler MSV2 Sniper (a great piece in my opinion... Under-utilized) forced me to adjust.

So another good takeaway is that complacency is bad

I do feel like the Kamau sniper, and by extension the Bagh Mari, Haidao, the new spiral one, and a couple of other models have reshaped the game in a big way. Whenever I’m looking at facing down a powerful ARO like that, I need to have a plan. With PanO, it’s usually to shoot with bigger guns and more dice.

Hassassins and Dahshat have presented me with some interesting opportunities. While Dahshat can put up a linked Zhuyong hmg, even he doesn’t have great odds against something like a Kamau. I’d rather find a way to take it on without putting my huge points expenditure at risk.

One option is the coordinated order. Playing Hassassins and getting a Fiday up to drop a mine and coordinated Daylami has helped me see the value of a bunch of little guys.

I kept the coordinated order as an option for this match, but I wanted to see if other options were viable. One was to try to get the coordinated order between the Al Fasid, Brawler and ABH snipers, and one of the glue cannon ABH. That option does run the risk of the Kamau obliterating one of those pieces (worth it), but doesn’t do anything to the doctor, and costs command tokens for the coordinated order and reforming the fireteam.

Another option was available was to run my smg Liberto up to drop a chain colt on the Kamau. That didn’t work out become he got discovered right away by a helot.

Anyway, my big takeaways were the importance of staying flexible and bringing redundancy. Dahshat does that particularly well.

I didn't think you could combine Surprise shot (a short skill) with Speculative fire ( a full order skill).

Speculative Fire allows the user to make a BS Attack. Surprise Shot is a BS Attack.

 I'm going to keep this in mind and try out the Hunz LGL sometime. It's hard to skip out on the FO though. I guess he'd be perfect for non-specialists missions though!

The game was a solid back and forth for both of us that ended in a 6-2 victory for my opponent (I think that was the final score).

The big events were, his sniper taking out mine, and then catching the other. I dropped his sniper 3 times, but it wasn't until the third that it stuck.

My Al Fasid was able to hold down the center objective in suppression fire for two turns thanks to some spectacular rolls on my part. Mostly, it was a lucky crit against the Red Fury so that I could stay up without getting hit by high burst weapons.

My opponent managed to win turn two by running a Liberto up to one of the objectives in my deployment zone after he killed the sniper that was covering it.

I opted to go first because I won the LT roll. In hindsight, I was worried that my opponent had brought McMurrough (he did) and that he was going to get a lot of kills and have a solid alpha strike (he would have) but I probably should have opted for deployment. The turn advantage meant that my opponent didn't have to work as hard as I would have liked to grab a third objective on turns one and two.

Just read the first post. I use a Hunzakut lgl. As you found out the camo spec fire is a nice way to get the opponent into a false sense of security. Good to see someone using the amazing Fasid also.

These are really interesting Dashat lists. They're breaking the cookie cutter, and it's cool to see how much can get done with the less-expected linkteam composition. The zero-HI one is particularly interesting to see: I just wouldn't like to play with no HI big guns at all, if I had the option for linked HI HMGs etc. Good to see that it can still kick butt.

Hot damn this list wants a Katyusha in it. EVO hacker, Sat-Lock with three sniffer bots, two Hunzakuts. The meme potential is incredible.

I finally got around to recording another game with Dahshat! I've been playing a little PanO and/or ALEPH again, but wanted to give Dahshat another run. Mostly because I wanted to use Saito.

    The mission was quadrant control.

When my opponent said he was bringing Shasvastii and we were playing quadrant control, I swapped out my HMG Ghulam for a sniper rifle to get more shock onto the table. It meant I was 5 points under and could have swapped out the warcore for another flashpulse bot, but I didn't notice.

    My opponent brought:

I drew the classified where you need to heal a friendly model from unconscious. I don't remember what my opponent got. I won the roll and chose deployment on the right side of the table in the first image. My opponent opted to go first.

My opponent deployed a bunch of camo tokens, a Haiduk, and a couple of TR bots and ikadrons. The TR HMG was in the balcony in the hanger with a fairly commanding view, but I deployed my Brawler sniper at what turned out to be 36 inches away. My Ghulam sniper remained unlinked but was able to see two of the Taighas as they advanced, which helped keep them from getting into my stuff. The Haiduk ended up being the data tracker, deployed on the balcony on the far corner outside of the hangar.

I held my LT in reserve, just in case my opponent had a Speculo. Thankfully for me, he was trying out other profiles. I deployed my fireteam on the left side of my deployment zone, using the lateral bridge for my snipers to get a commanding view of the table. My opponent had gotten a Malignos on top of a balcony that gave him a clear path into my deployment zone on the roofs of the buildings so I used my Liberto and his mine to cover that approach. I stuck my Hunzakuts and Saito on the other side, hoping to bully the camo tokens and the Haiduk that he had put in the large hangar. My red fury ABH got a flash pulse, one of the others got an HMG. I made the third, which rolled +1 armor, my data tracker.

My opponent advanced with his Taighas. My snipers only managed to kill one but they also kept the other two at a healthy distance. My opponent moved up with his Haiduk and sappered him to capture the zone on my far right, along with two camo tokens (which turned out to be a Shrouded and a mine). Then he moved up with his plasma Q-Drone and killed my two flashpulse bots and got blinded by my warcore, so he fell back to not get caught by the Kum Rider.

My Kum rider lobbed smoke in front of my brawler. I was able to discover the Malignos that was in a terrible spot for me and then killed it and the TR bot with a couple more orders than I had hoped. While doing this, I moved the fireteam and the data tracker up a little bit before switching the team over to the Ghulams and ABHs. I dropped the data tracker into suppression fire, covered by the mine the my opponent had discoverd. I advanced with the Hunzakut in the first group, but my opponent revealed a TO marker as I tried to get into a better position, so I just ended up hiding around a corner. I then ran Saito up a couple of ladders and across the catwalk to engage the Haiduk. I couldn't close the distance, so I threw smoke (forgetting that the Haiduk had MSV2, but still hoping to hide Saito from other prying eyes, like a Noctifier maybe) but rolled an 18. I rounded the corner, murdered the Haiduk in CC and then recamoed.

We tied on zones but I was one up for having a data tracker dominating a zone.

My opponent was down a couple of orders but managed to land his Cadmus in a corner behind my fireteam. He killed at least three members of the team, my FO bot, and my Brawler assault hacker. I got some super lucky armor rolls with the Brawler sniper and she survived. He also let his Taighas run forward, but my linked Ghulam sniper killed them before she died to the Cadmus.

I ran my Kum rider up and killed his plasma Q-Drone, losing the Kum Rider in the exchange. I tried to discover the Malignos with my Warcore, but failed. I used my Liberto to try to harass the Malignos and failed to discover it. I reformed the fireteam with the remain Brawler, Ghulam doc, LT, and grenade launcher before I killed his Cadmus with some my doctor's trusty linked shotgun. I then set up my fireteam with the Brawler making my opponent's advances more difficult. I shifted both of my Hunzakuts along with Saito to capture a third quadrant. My order pool was hurting, so I couldn't accomplish any more.

I scored for the data tracker and having more zones. The score was 5-1 at this point. I was guaranteed a victory, but we kept played to see if I could snag the major or if my opponent could thwart me.

My opponent shot my Liberto with his Malignos and I dropped a mine to lock it down. Then he killed a Hunzakut with his Shrouded and recamoed. He moved is LT into a zone to hold it. He moved his Caliban into a good position and attacked my sniper, but my sniper got a lucky crit. Then he made a desperate run with an Ikadron to get my data tracker but my sniper put it down.

I moved the surviving Hunzakut up to engage with his Shrouded. I managed to discover shoot it, but had to split my burst between the Malignos and Shrouded. He failed to dodge the mine, but made all of his armor rolls. I shot again and my Hunzakut died. Then Saito moved up, failed his smoke throw, so he shot the Shrouded, removing it from the table. I only had two orders left and used them both to go for the Malignos with indirect fire. I rolled a crit on an 8 with the last one, denying my opponent a secured HVT.

I ended up with three zones, only because Saito costs more than the Malignos' corpse, for a final score of 8-1.

The game was very close, despite the score. My orders were almost entirely gutted, as were my opponent's. I really enjoyed Saito. With the support for him that Dahshat has, he can do what he is designed for, murder. Granted, he will go down hard to a lucky knife crit, but he's too much fun to leave sitting at home. I liked having a CC expert with TO. It was an incredible tool to have, and placing him near the only model that could be the data tracker meant his was able to leverage his abilities.

I'm finding the overwhelming number of models to use for the core team, with 3-4 SWC weapons to be really interesting. It means that I have a lot of decent firepower to back up the camouflaged models who end up getting most of the work done. Once again, the minelayer Liberto is absurdly good for 11 points.
