Mostly just asking if we can read anything into the Zhanshi being released when it is. Pet peevee of mine being that I hope we're getting a medium infantry instead of Zhanshi as the low-cost support unit.

I doubt we can read anything into it. It could be that existing supplies were low enough that it was time to make new ones. They needed it too. It's like saying the same about the Vet Kazak and TAK. It could be just a "we need to fit this in somewhere thing".

I agree. The original YJ support box looked suuuppppeerrrr dated. And it's looked that way since N2. I routinely took tokusetsu in my vanilla lists because they looked so much better. That they were cheaper was a bonus, but I still would have used them even if they were more expensive.

Aren't celestial guard slated for later this year as well? Going on invincible being next year I'd say this release probably isn't a hint towards Zhanshi bring in ia

"After summer" was the suggested date for CG, probably after Gencon. We've been waiting long enough though

Not exactly. The 'Banner Armies' are the older style of masses of lightly armed, poorly trained and equipped light infantry. The Invincible Army is a much smaller, heavily trained and equipped, and more professional force.

I'm assuming that the new YJ support pack is just that, a new support pack because the old Engineer dated to freaking 2006 and the Doc to ~08 or 09.

I really hope that the IA doesn't have much Zanshi support, but rather is capable of putting everyone in power armor.

The support pack is getting released because:

    1. The JSA support were the second most used JSA profiles in vanilla YJ armies. This pack is here to be an alternative to them.

    2. They looked ancient.

Actually, this suggests that we will probably see new Support Packs for all the armies, updating them to the current digital sculpting standards.

I'm pretty sure that the doc and engineer models all date to ~2009 or so.

They still have less interesting variation in their four current options than YJ has in their two. So there's that.

I will admit, the idea of a new Medium Infantry unit for YJ in general, even if it isn't for the IA sectorial, does sound nice to be completely honest.
More variety is pretty nice after all, especially when we did end up losing a few interesting units as well.

The Daktari got a resculpt with the support pack, and the Haqq one is based on the middle era Ghulam rather than the original Ghulam Doc and Najjarun.

Still late N2 (support packs are all post-Paradiso, even if they contain newer sculpts) and pre 100% CAD era though.
