Yes, some more distinct visual Asian tropes would look cool such as a greater number of cyber braids. Crane Adil would be at least 75% more awesome if he had his helmet with the braid from the manga.
I mean the suit on the picture above. And look at this. Spoiler: Yes. This. Actually, Bubblegum Crisis is an old anime, but still interesting. A little naive now. Just try it :) (It’s about mercenary core fireteam, that fights corporations and aleph-like things)
The picture is the old Hac Tao design not Zuyongs, but I see what you mean. EDIT: Actually maybe it's not the Hac Tao. I actually don't know.
It's an old Invincible coloured like an old Daofei, old Daofei had a full queue and no shoulder spikes. I find the old designs were much more evocative of old chinese armours but I'm pretty sure a lot of people hated this model.
That's because rather than being a thematically defined NAA sectorial, it's one of those disgusting shill ones that were made to try to get players to cross pollinate between factions. It cherry picks a bunch of really good shit and just slaps it together. Takes two of the better hackers in the game (Danavas and Valerya) Takes one of the best AD troops in the game (Tigers) Adds the Karhu as an incredible solo operator and great source of NCO Takes one of the most well rounded midfield skirmishers in the game (Guilang) Supports this with one of the better sources of regular warband smoke (Varangians) Allows AVA 3 Flash Pulse bots Provides two really good combat REMs, one which synergises extremely well with their top end hackers (Bulleteers and Peacemakers) Takes a really solid fireteam base from Pan-O of Fusi+Orc Allows CSUs to fill out Kaplan fireteams, allowing a Kaplan Spitfire Haris to clock in at literally 50 points and still have 2 specialists in the link Cherry picks one of Yu Jing's best wildcard supports for fireteams (Haidao) Is it any shock this feels like one of the greasiest power gamer sectorials short of pre errata Dahshat? Should be noted that N3 White Company had AVA1 restriction on Guilang but it was bumped up in N4 to 2 to help push them some more.
Yuhpp. It is crazy to me that an NA2 faction of the two Kaldstorm Sectorials seems more coherent and effective at multiple playstyles. It can build hacker heavy, midfield heavy, and it has a large amount of potential Haris teams. All while packing White Noise, Smoke, and multiple MSV2 users. Not many Sectorials get the holy trinity of the three. Plus they are all strong users of said equipment.
They have an absurd amount of MSV and can be unexpectedly extremely vulnerable to Albedo, which I noticed this week as Lei Gong ran into WhiteCo's deployment zone on his own and just started shooting stuff. Speaking of Albedo if we're not ever going to get White Noise or Eclipse, I'd really like alot more access to Albedo in Yu Jing as a thing.
Whilst White Company is a bit weird thematically, it is generous of the company to give Yu Jing players something to do with the Pano they may have ended up stuck with from all the combined sets.
The direct anime character rip offs I can definitely see as too far for the taste of some, but I really miss those power armour rice hats. The Shikami was garbage but I loved his stupid hat.
"The Blue Wolf" was a nickname for Genghis (Chinggis) Khan. The visual motif is weird, but it's not about an animal totem or something, it's a reference to the archetypal Mongol warlord. Invincible armor is directly referencing Qin-era armor; the "terra cotta soldiers" that are part of their name are burial objects from the grave of the first Qin emperor, and those statues are mostly wearing Qin lamellar armor. The shoulder plates feature overlapping bands or scales that would have been made from leather. Zuyong armor shoulder plates look very clearly like Qin lamellar shoulder plates. Oh yeah I can see the resemblance in the spaulders, still too subtle though on their own. It'd help a bit if they did something a bit different with the head or chest to tie it in.
As someone who is often disagreeing with triumph and their tone. I just want to say this is a will written post of issues that I feel are pretty on point for yu Jing. While yu Jing isn't weak by any measure and with the exception of the dated ISS, the sectorials hold their own. But, I think design wise it absolutely feels disjointed. There are units with defined roles that thematically just don't fit them, several units with overlapping rules where is natural to just pick the most optimised. The characters often don't mesh well with their home sectorials or bring much interesting to the army overall. I think some of the issues that sick out to me is little handbrakes that just don't seem to make since in the wider context of n4. Some examples: Crane ranks are unique with having sensor and some command skills. But if you want an swc weapon or specialist, you lose that uniqueness - and paying high 40 points for a niche multirifle just didn't cut it. Ye mao are supposed to be asymmetric warfare units based on hit and run. But don't bring anything particularly good at asymmetry - ie. Presenting an existential threat to heavy units with EM or upgraded hacking.
Their fluff came across to me as selling them like some Guilang on crack, some kind of super scary deep inflitration ambush hunter. Then they turned out to just be another gun fighting link which was odd.
These kinds of compromises feel dated in the age of only the sniper in a link paying for an MSV2. Crane hacker/spitty won't break the game if sensor/triangulated fire got moved to global skills and equipment.
I refuse! I will sell those blasted models to someone willing to touch those miniature with a ten foot pole (or size 1 brush) eventually!
Jokes aside, but I feel like if there's one thing that's ageing more rapidly than anything Yu Jing, it's those stitched-together NA2 sectorials.
