However, PanO didn't attack YJ in their own territory, they prevented the transit of YJ troops and assets through any other territory in order to arrive at the conflict zones. No YJ troops could be moved anywhere save for their own system without transiting either foreign or neutral territory. PanO, especially as the blockade came into being later in the Uprising, would be well within its rights to prevent the transit of military assets, as a means of preventing further atrocities, especially if they were backed by the other powers at O-12.

I dunno man. Yu Jing's been pretty clear about who they are ever since Kuang Shi were released (2011?). You're arguing like this is a behavioral trend and not an established aspect of their character.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other, or a chicken/egg argument... and a populace conquered, and stripped of what they see as their rights, responding to that, with further reprisals? As has been pointed out numerous times, neither side is the good side here, just different bads.

Okay you people that love this whole Uprising.

Can you please get a consensus on wether Yu Jing is evil and has always been or the fluff is full of wonderful greyness, and then come back to tell us how much you love Interruptors writing?

Do you know what flanderization means? You're not arguing like you do. Yes, it's been part of their character for a long time, but it hasn't been the overarching defining aspect of it.

It's like in the next major book Pan-O is suddenly a libertarian police state where the majority of the population (instead of a clear minority) is Ateks working slave contracts in the industries in order to support the wealthier upper class who's the ones enjoying near absolute freedoms and often committing crimes against Ateks with impunity. It's been part of their fluff for a long time, together with a few not-entirely-unreasonable embellishments, but the shift would probably unwelcome as well.

I admit I had to Google that word :)

I hope future narrative pushes explore the shortcomings and evils of other factions as well. There's plenty to work with. I'm sorry you feel your faction is being redone as some kind of villain, but it's always been plain to see and it was just used as a plot point.

Oh, we will, from what we know about Tunguska, Varuna, Triunvirate and Shasvastii they aren't nice.

But everyone becoming evil is the contrary of what I want. I like my heroes damnit. If I want to see villains all I have to do is plug on that tv that noone uses because Netflix is better.

At least I know that invincible is going to be the bright side of Yu Jing.

How do I know? I asked. That easy. I sent an email to CB and asked.

I guess it was just that easy.

Just "yeah no, the shady part of Yu Jing is the Imperial Service, Invincible Army will be great and wont have any of the sinister stuff because that's not their function".

Are you serious? Where do you get that? What a vague and unsubstantiated claim! lol. Not to mention off-point. Where did I argue that collaboration was best? WTF? For someone who reads so much you aren't responding to what I actually wrote. I am speaking specifically to a single person's ability to manage an entire IP. I'm not talking about having multiple writers writing the same book, or multiple artists drawing the same painting, whatever. The disconnect between what you're responding to and what I actually said makes it impossible for me to logically connect the dots.

GMing a campaign world (we're talking about running an entire company's creative direction, not a DnD campaign bro! WTF?!) is definitely not the same thing. Ongoing interest is not the same thing. Ongoing ABILITY to 'stay focused' is not the same thing.

What I said (and what I shall repeat), is that "maintaining the same level of passion and energy over a long period of time" is impossible. As humans we have good days and bad days, ups and downs. Any artist knows that there are things like writer's block, 'slumps' and so on. It takes WORK to maintain a level of quality and output, because it is NOT within human nature to be able to remain on the 'mountaintop' of creative production.

Next time maybe lay off the straw man insults about my reading ability and read what I actually said, eh?

You got two options bro. Either he's decided that lazy-ass copy-paste of characters from other IPs, crummy writing, and poor fan communication are desirable (in which case, I mean, ok...guess that's where we're at now?), or he's swamped and likely tired, and some stuff slips through the cracks or gets put in to expedite the process. I'm going to assume the best and go with the second, because I think he seems like generally a smart, creative guy.

Wow, again with the ad hominem.

The obvious third option being to wait until you've read it before deciding that the quality of the writing has dropped...

Because it's not noticeably different in quality to the previous books' background.

Well yes, for sure lol. Sorry, I was not trying to refer specifically to this book. You're right, I haven't read it to know the writing quality. I was just making a general analysis of much of the writing. IE: I wasn't arguing 'drop in quality over time', I was arguing 'some stuff is poor quality'.

Part of the problem with YJ's image is the shallow and pinpoint focus on ISS. We always hear about their Stasi and KGB-esc brutality and indifference. Them working to keep the authoritarian powers in power is only a small part of their job. We never really get to hear about their judicial duties when capturing wanted and dangerous criminals, going toe to toe with Yuan Yuan pirates, or helping with the Paradiso war effort like tracking down a Speculo behind the lines, applying their counter-insurgency skills when dealing with the Shasvastii, or getting "diplomatic" with a Rasyat. It's more or less blah-blah Kuang Shi and blah-blah mass graves (an idiot ball moment more then anything).

We only really get the black side of ISS and rarely the grey side. They have a role to play in the authoritarian regime but it goes beyond tracking down dissidents and being brutal in counter-insurgency actions. This is part of where the flanderization of the faction comes from.

And this is what I refute, and offered my own limited personal experience as well as the evidence of many other authors who have maintained passion and energy for their creations over decades. The key point is one you even make yourself.

And that is important. A task that takes work to accomplish however is far from impossible.

Or the work is actually good and not to some peoples taste. Or a host of other options. Look, I stated I haven't read the work yet, and didn't want to weigh in on whether it was good or bad. I just refute the claim that someone can consistently be engaged in a project for over a decade to produce a consistent level of quality.

I apologize if you were insulted, that was not my intent, but I admit that my tone may have come off as a little combative. I was not commenting on your reading ability, but instead on your seeming lack of familiarity of the many authors who have been able to maintain a high level of interest and quality in their created works for decades.

We do get it in snippets in the books, but in the "big screen" that people that dont buy the books see, yeah, its all blaring about how evil they are.

Incorrect. Please don't put words in my mouth. I did not say quality has been progressively decreasing. If I did I misspoke, and feel free to point me to where because I really do not remember saying so?

What I said is that over time lack of quality of writing will become an issue. Not because it increases exponentially, but because of slumps, production rushes, etc...whatever the reason is, from time to time, there is poor quality in writing. Some of that I'm sure is due to translation. Some of it is just taste lol. I fully admit that much of anyone's perception of whether creative stuff is 'good' or not, or 'quality' or not, is based on perception.

But especially when a lot of people agree on something being poor quality...I think that tends to suggest that it is, in fact, not up to standard, eh?

Agreed entirely @Aldo , I always get confused by the school of thought that Yu Jing villainy is obvious or core to the faction identity... in print we get as much about delicious food carts as we do about Kuang Shi, and the honourable-order-and-justice ISS wordcount definitely exceeds that of the brutal-oppression sorts.

    Or we did, until Uprising.

However, even with the "honorable-order-and-justice" ISS, there has always been the background ruthlessness. The disappearances and brutality of crushing the Triads, the Kuang Shi, the notes from the Bao profile that they're so brutal and zealous that they have to be reined in by a Pheasant, etc. That, coupled with the prior explicit statements about the disdain and outright (semi-justified) hostility shown towards the Japanese populace mean the actions of the ISS in attempting to suppress the Uprising are not either 1) out of already established character or 2) surprising. You might not like those actions, but they are not unforeseeable.

Sure, all the big ninja clans controlled by ISS. What a joke! an ava1 troop just present for the family photo. Even vanilla YJ had more ninjas. Ninja Clans were always controlled by JSA.

I don't think any of this independence process is elegant. Is more like a terrible excuse. We are opressed terrorists! we use civilian structures as shield+as a threat, so O-12 make us an independent faction! or else... Gutier has simply taken the shorter path to what they wanted (an independent JSA because they had planed their renoval and they've wanted to make them to hyghtlight over the rest)

The Yujing inability to deal with is grotesque because they wasn't able to frustrate JSA plans in 5 of the 6 openend territory fronts before O-12 intermission, nor politicaly and not even mediaticly. A fucking joke for the nº2 faction of the sphere.

Seccesionists played their cards kidnaping and using civils as shields, Yujing had all the options over the table.
Dude, non lethal ammo. Glue guns, Stun, E/M... for Fucks sake hacking those plastic HIs of JSA that have PB3, and their hackers have less skill, even Pano WIP12 hackers can shine there!

Target their leaders, their chain of command make them make mistakes... and exploit their mental stress... tactical lessons 101

Also, the burocracy inside O-12 should be enought slow to make a little siege to work nice. Even with pano Help
    • Etern rival
    • Rising hiperpower
Those are the words used by CB to define Yujing. Not "Evil", "Incompetent", or "Mad"

I was always plain to see the bad things of the rest of the factions too,
    • Tohaa see humans as expendable tools against the EC
    • Nomads criminals, they profit on conflict, crime, larsony, traffic...
    • Pano enslaves. Elots, and the bast majority of their atek citycens are beyond misserable living in gettos and favelas
    • Aleph has it's own agenda and needs to be chequed out by an exclusive O-12
    • Haqqis are, extorisionists, pirates and assasins
    • ...
