All that is true, it's just that Fat L2 FEELS scary, but in practice it operates much like the deadly tools that are available already.
Yeah, it's tricky that VIRD, Acon and NCA are all better than ever right now. I love all three of them.
I'd say FAT2 is a lot stronger than K1, ultimately. It cuts out the middle man of making an ARM save AND actively contributes to you winning the FTF roll AND is generally found on more optimised carriers to maximize it's effectiveness. Whilst K1 just gets rid of ARM. That being said, as scary as FAT2 is, there still is nothing as frightening as a Sphinx. Period. FAT2 is second behind that, though. Also, as a sidenote, I still cannot wrap my head around SAA, all the other sectorials seem to be far easier to comprehend at a glance for me, but then again I am probably missing something that is about as obvious as the Lieutenant in an Avatar list...
IMO ASA lists practically build themselves. Throw your core together (usually some flavor of Bagh MSR + Regualrs + ORC HMG), take a naga or two, maybe Dart, your support units like a doctor, and you have the foundation of a very strong contender of a list. Mimetism ARO piece, effective BS17 HMG for the active turn, great mid field fighters/ specialists. I'd like to echo the sentiment that ASA is arguably our strongest sectorial right now – only tied with Varuna. I've been saying this since their update but newer, shinier toys have kept me from playing them
Which are among the most likely to be taken in that sectorial. I'd be surprised if there wasn't either Tarik or the Khawarij Spitfire in a Ramah army. Mimetism costs ~2pts (on an Ariadnan BS13 HI), while going from ARM1 to ARM2 costs at least 2pts as best I can figure out. Which one would you rather have?
But once again, it's one unit in a 10-15 model count list. I don't know about you but I prefer not to shake in my boots over one "super" soldier with a spitfire. Man up, grit your teeth, and surprise shoot that wimp with a Boarding Shotgun
As far as fatality is concerned, if you math it out, it turns out not to be as bad as I thought. Way to go this guy! Actually using math... https://underbourakssun.wordpress.com/2019/04/05/how-problematic-is-fatality-l2/
Like i pointed out in his wgc thread, the moment more armor goes into the equation the more dramatic the difference becomes. Bolt spitfire in haris compared to tarik spitfire in haris vs an avatar or jotum in cover is a like a solid 18% swing from fatality alone. Fat2 isnt going to kill this game by any means, but its a skill which increases in value the lower your odds of wounding or winning the f2f roll are. Increasing your odds from 70 to 78 isn't particularly impressive. But the ability to have 40% odds to win when put at -9 for tarik and -12 for sheskin is fantastic.
Where to even begin... Let's just make it quick. Have you even considered factoring cost into the equation? FAT2 costs a whooping single point. Considering how much you get for that the effect is bonkers. Unlike a MSV2 that costs you 5 points and is pretty much useless 70% of of the time, FAT2 will always matter, regardless of what you are facing. Mind you that Mimetism is generally considered as a very cheap Skill with a lot of impact in FTF rolls. Hoever Mimetism/Camo a) is available to everyone in some form b) depending on platform costs more than FAT2 c) has a direct counter in MSVs
Absolutely. I’m not saying it’s not powerful and better than it should be. But the truth is that when it first came out, a bunch of players were running around like the sky was falling. It’s not. Fatality level 2 is good. Better and cheaper than it should be. It leads to shitty play experiences. But I don’t think it’s as bad as the initial knee jerk.
^^This right here.^^ But I'm okay with it. There are plenty of things in every army that can be no fun to go against. Saladin and two impersonation Fidays, a Squalo spec firing grenades across the board on 9's, Symbiomates everywhere, entire lists in camo states, etc. We've all got some option for something cheesy to take and over time we've all developed some way to work around it. I agree with ya, FAT2 is super good, and maybe could use a price increase. But it's in no way scary enough to make me put down my models and look for another game system.
His examples aren't good, though. Against a helpless Fusilier, I agree that Fatality L2 is not a problem. But shooting a TO/ODD model in bad range (-9BS targets, the kind that you're not supposed to have much of a chance at hitting) and suddenly you're winning 34% of those firefights via crits. And that's what's not good about Fatality L2!
Not to be a stickler, but that is wrong. All you get is 34% to roll at least one crit. Then you'll need to weigh it against your opponent's crit chance. So [34% x (0.95^(Burst))]. Against a TR bot or Sin Eater you'll only end up with about 28% "I win" situations. But then there is the exponentionally higher chance to roll multiple crits in one Order, which instantly deletes supposedly resilient troops with no effort. Infinity may be a dice game, but I like to pretend it is mostly skill based. Skills like Fatality are problematic because they take away player agenda and focus more on rolling more dice to see what happens - no brain activity required.
I keep batting lists around for Nca but there are a few missions with them that I feel are really uphill. How do you guys get around stuff like footslogging in supplies or looting and sabotage.
How do you guys get around stuff like footslogging in supplies or looting and sabotage? I keep NCA home and play MO.
I did that and still got my butt kicked, but then again I suck at playing Pano and I just will not stop playing them. I like Pano, So! I'm in it till I win it.
I ran this the other day for shiggles and it actually worked out pretty well.
