That's one of the silliest generailizations I think I've read on this forum. Nomads don't have posthumans (though tbd in Vedic) Nomads don't have netrods So off of just those nomads pay more points for those abilities. Rudras have 2 wounds for a slight point increase over tysklons. Daikini are far superior gun fighters to any nomad line infantry for similar cost. Garudas are way better gun fighters than hellcats. Danavas are about as expensive has interventor but have pitchers. The twist with puppets is they all go freaking inert when the puppeteer is in a null state, and he can't even aro. I don't think the asparas death will cause anything else to auto die. Nomads don't have CoC, period. I play Nomads and Aleph, and I'm super stoked about Tunguska and Operations. I think they both look super sweet. I'm really excited to learn more about what operations will do, that's for sure.
Want me to tell me how many things Aleph has that Nomad have for cheaper and/or better? After that we can go on with the things Nomads have that Aleph doesn't. I assure you is gonna be a way longer list than "Netrods and Posthumans" I'm still excited about Aleph, but let's not be naive. Also, the thread is not about this.
I'm sincere, naive or no. I see plenty of stuff I prefer to the nomad version if there is one at all. I like Myrmidons better than moria. (Though I also prefer morlocks for cheap fodder). Myrms straddle both roles. Maceon is my favorite specialist in the game. Nomads have nothing like Hector or Achilles. Scylla is a diamond in the rough with nothing comparable in Nomads. If we're not talking vanilla and instead talking sectorials, such as Operations to any one ship, you start to see all the choice Nomad profiles are not all available in the same place. It may be a play style thing. I prefer smaller order count lists so having flexible gear like a backup nanopulsar on most peeps is highly valued. Anyway I couldn't disagree more that Operations looks bad.
If we're talking about Scylla, lets talk about Drakios too. He's a beast of an alpha striker, going through enemy MSV ARO pieces like a cabbage through and old and short crone. I don't see anything on the Nomad side that can compete.
When did we get so much negativity in ALEPH, or Infinity? It's sounding like we play chaos marines or sisters of battle. I see no reason to expect any faction or sectorial to be straight up better or worse than others, CB has kept Infinity well balanced. Why would ALEPH do Nomad's thing better than them? That would be unfair to Nomads. Vedic should have a different style with emphasis on different strengths. Also; YOU DON'T NEED SMOKE. I understand that there is a neat trick with smoke and MSV, but MSV has other uses.
I disagree for the marut, not because i want to smoke the marut during the active turn, but to protect it during the reactive turn. The marut is too expensive and has no special defense (no CH:TO like cutter, no ODD like avatar, no big armor like jotum), plus it is a capital piece in the list. Without smoke, if the board has too few covers for S7 or if you go second, you may lose about everything before you can even play and you can't even prepare for it since there is nothing you can do.
There is a difference between well-balanced sectorials and units useful in those sectorials. Go talk to NCA about Aquila and Bolts. There is no indication why Nomads should be the best in hacking. That's what players surmised, but nothing in lore supports it. And in fact, Aleph was always on same level as far as Hacking was concerned - less repeater coverage, smaller number of Hackers, but all top notch and all tougher (NWI, Asura - this was before Danavas disappointment anyway) than Nomads had. Besides, Aleph is not trying to compete with all of Nomad strengths - it's Yu Jing that is trying to compete for top place in (in-universe) unethical behaviour :-P Marut was already explained. As for Asuras, yay for more expensive, worse weapon Aquila! It sees so much use in NCA! :D
I don't get why Nomads have to have the same hackers (also best MIs, best HIs, great skirmishers, etc...) other than "Interruptor and his friends played the RPG with Nomads so they have to be teh bestest" I really hope we get some way to spread a hacking net besides Danavas' pitcher, and i hope they give me a reason to play Asuras other than coolness. Would Total Immunity be too much?
I agree on the first part, but Total Immunity on Asura would be a bit too much I think. I'd be happy with just going back with Shock ruling, and providing Smoke somewhere in the list.
What about getting Shock or Bio immunity? Dart's family provided some information that allowed Aleph to make some tweaks to the Asura bodies?
I honestly think she is getting at least Shock Immunity, but not Smoke. I would also be happy if we got profiles with and without the MSV.
Shock Immunity would be the same as reversing the Shock ruling. I would much prefer simply reversing the ruling as it hurts many other units, none of which deserve it, not to mention it creates weird rule exceptions. Bioimmunity would give her a bit of a bonus, but I don't know. Eh. Don't expect too much. MSV3 is integral part of her image, I'd really hate it if they removed it (although I admit it would allow for more optimised profiles). And she has Smoke - in vanilla. Not giving Smoke to OSS just means Asura Spitfire won't really be played in OSS, and neither will Marut.
Like before, I'm completely baffled by this opinion. Not having access to a smoke trick won't magically erase all the other strengths of these units.
Like before, but let me structure it a bit. I think we can agree on following points: all the strengths of Marut and Asura are just as valid in vanilla as in sectorial, both these two units form centerpieces of the list and not something added in, Smoke and warband/CC support is definitively a good combination (as in: sum is greater that individual parts) with these units, sectorial will provide plenty of interesting and strong options that can fulfil same roles, and most of those options will not be available in vanilla (ex. fireteams) given what we know about the sectorial right now*, it will not provide any kind of specific synergy to those two units** From these 5 points, it follows that there is no point in taking those two in sectorial when they shine more brightly in vanilla, and other options which shine better in sectorial. Notes: * If new information about sectorial reveals they will have better support there, my opinion will change accordingly. ** Asura Hacker profile is likely an exception to this, as it it's Hacking Device gels well with heavy REM presence, and presumably we will have REM links available
Specifically, you cannot activate NWI or Dogged (although if you have STR instead of W then your fully Shock immune).
People were playing it where a multi-wound model was completely unaffected by shock, even when they had NWI they assumed it didn't affect them because they were multi-wound. The FAQ said that multi-wound models are still affected by shock where they can have their NWI or Dogged cancelled, but they cannot be auto-killed. So instead of an Asura being able to use NWI, when affected by shock it cancels NWI and she just falls unconcious.
Thanks for the responses guys, that completely passed me by. Given how much shock there is in the game now (cheap SMGs everywhere, mines, multi weapons, supportware etc etc etc) that's crippling for a 70pt model. Hell I ran a 200pt 10 model Ariadna list last week and had 6 sources of shock without even trying to bring extra.
