Ya I always wondered about that. I remember off the top of my head that the Szalamandra does though.
i think that'd be hard to argue to CB who feels Joan is a huge icon of Pano, and the military orders are firmly attached to her.
Haven’t seen this posted yet, but it seems relevant.
From the Lead Rising Blog’s transcript of the Interplanetario round table:
Will there be more sectorials being 'banned' or unsupported in the future.
They made it clear that nothing is being banned and any sectorials that are temporarily not having miniatures sold in this way will continue to be playable and supported in the rules.
Many people foresaw the problem with the continual expansion of the game and the creation of a range which is unmanageable in size. CB looked at the optimum number of SKUs per faction and decided on 50. Merovingians were discontinued to reduce the bloat and got a small update in return, but they will be back some day.
CB are planning a rotating catalogue whereby something will have to leave in order to make space for something new. This means that the same thing will happen to other sectorials in the future.
As for this means for me as an SAA player:
I get an update sooner rather than later, cool. The army is not being squatted, but we won’t see a lot of new SAA players unless they enjoy conversions or like using Bolts and Fusiliers to proxy, sorta sad but not the end of the world. Besides, MO is a better gateway army with its attention grabbing knights. SAA often seemed to be a second army once folks started looking for a higher ceiling play style.
Lastly, this might see CB wasn’t 100% happy with the army as it is, but wasn’t sure how (or lacked the resources to dedicate to a rework along with all the new releases) to get the army to reflect the desired play style (a la Merovingia, someday).
Which hopefully means when they get rereleased they get an even better make over, Which should be fun. Albeit 2-3 years down line.
It has a small selection of troops, ridiculously high AVAs (AVA 4(!) Engineers anyone? no one needs that, but still everything useful has AVA6 or 4, 2 for some support stuff), has Fireteams, and a special one. Sounds like a sectorial to me.
And sectorials does? Poor french and ASA :(
oh, umm, over here. all the TAGs are "hands fee"
In my personal head canon this decision is not about SAA being unpopular, but rather that CB sees the Shock Army as being "completed", or near enough to it for their liking. It makes more sense than suspending NCA or MO because those factions still need a lot of work done.
I just bought my SAA last month, so I'm an interested party, yet also have my purchases finalized already.
I'm not dismayed by the rotation, but I wish they'd have found room for at least a Guarda resculpt before they did so... they may have avoided it in the interest of redesigning auxbots with NCA though, so I suppose that makes a kind of sense.
Regardless, I'm relieved they didn't relegate the SAA to the grave with my Exrah.
After sleeping a night over those news, it's still not funny. I'm actually deeply disappointed for the first time by CB. You brought me from fanboy to strongly reconsidering my commitment in one night.
Yeah, the faction that saw basically a very limited range of resculpts and didn't even get a SWC box for their 'signature infantry' is so complete.
Military Orders or NCA should have been the go-to for shelving, not SAA.
care to articulate exactly what is bothering you? I'm sure a sensible discussion might help
Unfortunately the starter box *is* the SWC box, and I'm probably almost as unhappy about that as you are.
Other than that, and the Guarda what else that's Shock Army specific needed sculpts? Dragoe I suppose. The old sculpt still looks good, but we know they could make a real jaw dropper if they resculpted it.
MO needs a serious rework altogether and NCA needs new sculpts. Agree to disagree I guess.
I understand the anxiety about sectorial production suspensions. Losing the Exrah altogether and then the Yu Jing hatchet job has left a lot of us justifiably skeptical about the catalog rotation. Nothing but time and CB sticking with the rotation will allay those fears.
Edit: After looking again I might agree with you about NCA.
Another thing where I'll be curious to see how it plays out is that just because they cut off production doesn't mean that all of the existing inventory disappears immediately. Every store I know of has inventory that just never moves. Depending on how quickly they cycle through their catalog, it's entirely possible that many of these SKUs will still be available by the time they go back into production and in that case for the consumer there's basically no difference, they're just giving us a heads up about what might become unavailable.
Dronbot Remotes have been essentially unavailable for months near me simply because of the spike in demand caused by NA2, so I haven't been able to get a 2nd box of a very important unit for quite some time--and that's a model that's 'in production' so I'm not sure how big of a difference this whole thing is going to be in practice.
this is very true – I said something similar a couple posts back, but to be fair:
I have a feeling once CB announces something is going out of production, people tend to buy it immediately, even if they don't have an intent on using it right now. Take for example the MRRF boxes and blisters. I cannot find any boxes on my go-to websites (miniature market and game nerdz). I think Nerdz has the start box and thats it. Even on ebay I have trouble finding boxes that are not either foreign or grossly over priced.
Unfortunately the Acontecimento miniatures were what drew me to PanO in the first place and I just started collecting Infinity. What boxes/blisters should I get to make sure I can play a basic SAA list later on? My guess would be enough Regulars for a full link, supplemented with a few Bagh Mari and a Montessa / Guarda de Assalto.
I just bought what may well be one of the last dragoes in England. Given that nomads take pano cast offs, I figure I might paint it nomad and proxy it as a lizard, so I get some use of what is a beautiful model!

start box + 1 combi regular + bagh box + bagh HMG blister.
I would just proxy that montessa in the starter as a guarda if I wanted, I probably wouldn't make a list that used both at once. I have spare auxbots lying around though.
If he don't want to, I will tell you what is bothering me, I don't understand why CB just didn't update all the factions that exist, instead of coming out with new factions, The JSA thing could have waited, and maybe Varuna could have been a 2019 thing, and what's the point of N2 when you have more then enough factions and SKU out there, why not make new sculptures for the older factions and bring them up to N3? Look! in the end it's not my company and none of us can tell CB how to run their company. I'm not upset about what is happening, I just wish CB would have done something different.
If forced to proxy I would use the Icestorm ORC Trooper with Auxbot from my Peacemaker or Auxilia boxes.
The GDA was the first Infinity model I ever bought (on release no less) so I'm not likely to stop using him.
Bagh Mari box
Bagh Mari HMG
Rao (Singh can be easily proxied by an Akalis)
Those are the basics. If you want to get really involved with ASA (should be worth it, given its current state and upcoming tweaks) I'd also get a Dragao and second starter (conversion material) pretty soon.
Aleph units are pretty crucial to the sectorial, but they aren't discontinued. Same goes for remotes and Tikbalang.
The game can't stagnate.
I don't think many people are willing to purchase a new model just because its a new sculpt, especially if they have an already purchased/built/painted one. they can't just make the same 20-30 models over and over every year. CB is a business, they need to stay competitive and make money.
You've contradicted yourself. JSA was an update to an old sectorial. they did exactly that.
Reading yours, and others messages, it sounds like you guys think the rules are going away forever, they aren't. I like ASA models just as much as the next PanO player, but seriously, if room has to be made for new toys and units, I'm happy to give up the ability to purchase older models for newer ones. especially from a new player perspective. They are much more likely to buy new models with new rules that look fantastic than some old models with older rules.
