I think that some kind of variation of Humans, Elves, Orcs and Dwarves was a given; the Varanks are a totally new original creation (maybe they are REALLY some kind of Tengu Avians) and also it will have to see what "Game Factions" are split amongst "Races" and what amongst "Cultures". . . Maybe there are just some Human or Elves that are very culturally slanted towards a "Raven Totem" (much like the "Raven Guard" Astartes Marines) or, for a less "Nativ Shamanistic" approach, something resembling the Celtic Morrigan or the Vikings Huginn & Muninn. . .
We've been there with some of the early (1ed/2ed) Combined Army sculpts. Sadly, IIRC, the conclusion was that non-humanoid aliens in general don't sell well in the world of miniature wargaming. So while I agree, it would be definitely interestig to see some non-humanoid aliens, especially as playable factions in Infinity, it seems it is not economically viable for CB. Plus, I have a feeling that between 42 currently exisitng playable factions (sectorials and their respective vanillas), there isn't that much space for CB to release something new.
Centaurs are an interesting kind of Fantasy Creature that could as well fit in War-Crow, whatever the personal take that CB could perhaps take in those; if this hypothethical Centauroid of War Crow will sell well, maybe could be considered something similar for Infinity (Stats similar to Mounted Bikers) in various manner (strange Uplifteds of the Tohaas, weird new Xeno Race of the Combined Army, super radical fringer "Cyborg Lower Body" for Nomads). . . "Winged Humanoids" instead are yet something extant in Infinity as "AD Superjump Paratroopers" of some Factions are yet present in some form (Cybernetically Integrated Jetpacks or Winged Powersuits) and, Crow Men Tengu or not, could as well be very interesting "Fantasy Terrain Control Skirmishers" for War-Crow. . .
I'd love to see a Corvid family faction. Crows, Ravens and others like them. Crows can be as smart as a 7 year old kid. And recent studies are saying they are the smartest animals in the world. With brains built like our/Humanity's own.
If we actually got this I'd buy the whole faction no questions asked. While I have come to love the aesthetic and rules for Infinity for a fantasy game it might be a harder sell. There's just so much competition in the sphere of "Fantasy mini-skirmish games" that even if the sculpts and rules are great I simply won't be interested if it feels too generic. I know we were told to expect your typical fantasy fare right out of the gate with humans, elves, orcs etc. but I'm also sincerely hoping that Corvus Belli takes the opportunity to design some truly unique and eye grabbing stuff to make the game stand out. Even if war crows in WarCrow are kind of a meme I have legit been waiting my whole life for a miniature gaming line featuring cool bird-people (I do know Bushido exists but the game has no support in my area and I'm lukewarm on the ruleset).
Yes! Gimme my squad of deep ones! Let the stars align! Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!
English ravenmen... Stealthy theft against Corvus Belli raven... Another perfidious blow of the Perfidious Albion... Spoiler: Perfidious, yes Perfidious!
Agreed, as long as none of them are like that douche Revali… can’t stand the arrogant bird. The rest of the rito are very pleasant though.
Hmm kinda makes me think of Rick n Morty's 2-crow episode (plenty of other episodes with bird people in too) - the crow wizard on a horse look was great though if you were to want more human form :)
