That water better be vegan too...

Edit: bit of fridge logic just came to mind. Possibly when they say a 'zero carbon emissions' vessel, maybe they are trying to swing it from an angle of it's manufacture was also 'zero carbon emissions', not just how it runs.

I seriously doubt it, but hey it's nice to occasionally give the benefit of the doubt.

Dehydrated healthy fat-free, zero calory water. Just add a little water and you get some water!

But really, they'll write anything to sell. I'm sure dehydrated water WOULD sell.

Honestly, I didn't even bother to try to understand.
The worst case that came to my mind is that the motor on board (yes hi-end sail-ships have motors) are fully electric and have wind-fueled* batteries for it and everything electric on-boarded, but in the end, it has nothing to do will the fact that it is a sail-ship.
If they are talking about the full carbon cycle, then they better have to remove all the electronics but it would be rather unsafe to croos the ocean without those.

    * this word certainly does not exist but I find it so contradictious in essence that it fits the subject.

A lot of boats nowadays do have small wind turbines for charging on board batteries, solar is popular too.

I, too, share a disdain for Indiana.

On my second night there I decided to head back to the hotel after an entire day of infinity – I wanted a quiet dinner by myself in the room, It couldn't have been past 10 PM and the McDonalds across the street that I had planned on getting food from was closed.

A McDonalds, closed at 10 pm.

    Indiana sucks

For a while I have been looking for some good modern fantasy books and people kept recommending the Dresden Files, so I figured i would give them a whirl

I am 3 books in and Harry Dresden has to be the stupidest most socially inept main character I have ever read. I can sooner believe that this dude can turn lead to gold than the fact that anyone actually likes him or that he can tie his own damn shoes

    Well, yeah.

Dresden is very socially inept. Comes from being a wizard in the modern world, where everyone thinks magic is Penn&Teller, not fireballs down Main Street. People aren't entirely sure Harry isn't schizophrenic, at least until a werewolf tries to eat them!

i haven't read those books in a while but I don't think you're being entirely fair to Harry there he's a hell of a wizard, detective, and manipulator; its just his pride and social ineptitude always compound when he tries to stop those few people who do care about him from getting in the cross fire that leads him onto a lot of trouble. but not everyone likes everything so you're entitled you're opinion If you don't like them don't keep reading, but I found his character growth to be quite good throughout the series.

Part of the appeal to me is that Harry was a bit of an idiot, it certainly beats another Mary Sue, and he definitely grows into a more experienced idiot throughout the series.

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for idiot protagonists though, such as Inspector Gadget, or Robin Hood from the BBC's Maid Marion show.

Apparently the best response to someone reporting that their PC has a trust relationship failure is not "Are you surprised with our management".

So you're saying, he's the literary equivalent of a gamer?

I've met soooo many gamers in the last 30 years that, in comparison, Harry looks quite socially ept.[/QUOTE]

Problem is, you need to give some real, meaningful drawbacks to a character or risk Mary Sue status, which can be survived with skill and luck, or with diffusion and failures (for example, Honor Harrington is a mary sue in a lot of instances... but loses people under her command, some of those loses hurt not only her but the reader, and her "development" is more in the hardware line for her whole faction rather than hers personally -she usually learn little along the books, and even when she is learning fencing she is better than her instructor... in the real, kill-even-if-taking-damage way, losing to him because it's sport with some rules- and because of a supporting cast very well defined), but is fairly complicated and hard to achieve intentionally.

The main attractiveness to Harry Dresden books, however, is not Harry himself, but the whole world we see, somehow familiar yet very different. You wait to see the "white vampires" (succubus/incubus) arch...

Incidentally, there is a 1st ed FATE RPG for the Dresden Files, and a 2nd edition too (only the core book here, but the fluff is compatible).

If you like the style of the writer, the Codex Alera series is even better, and was written after an online dare to the guy: to write a history with the concepts of "lost roman legion" and "Pokemon". He conceded, and went to write six books (throwing in the Zerg for good measure XD), which is greatly interesting. And Awesome.
