The kind of Newcomer GW goes after is entirely new to the Hobby, though, so they don't even have minis to proxy with. Plus, GW pushes a "whole hobby" approach, so they'll sell you the minis, then sit down with you to paint them up, then play some "small points" games with you to keep the cycle going. They're like the Apple Stores of miniatures gaming.

And GW is rather good about getting people into the idea of playing miniature games.

I've seen people walk into the GW store with a 6yo kid in tow, and kid gets sold on the game, parents get sold on the creative side of it. Plus, building the models is parental bonding time with the kid.

Isn't six way bellow the recommended age for building models?

Also it's easy to sell a kid on something . :p The parents are usually harder to convince. Depends on the vendor though.

    Recent WTFs at work:

A Jamaican and Caymanian arguing over who's accent is the most "British", when I'm sat right next to them!

Another form that uses American dating on one page (MM/DD/YY) and proper dating on another page (DD/MM/YY).

I've been sorting my new store room and labeling the drawers, the head of IT Services has questioned whether I should continue to have label maker access, some labels she questioned:

"Unusual power" (anything that isn't a kettle lead)
    "Rodents" (mice felt too discriminatory)
"More USB A>B cables than any one company could ever use but I can't bring myself to throw out"
"Label McLabelface" (the drawer I keep the label printer and it's accessories in)
"Robert" (Not a drawer, it's what I labelled the office pot plant, I'm guessing she's not a Led Zeppelin fan)

The power of the label maker can be an overwhelming experience and lead some to the dork side . . .

It's a power I'm frankly not ready for, and I have embraced the dorkness wholeheartedly.

She also recently realised that my favoured coffee mug has a competitor's brand on it, it's the small acts of rebellion that get me through the day.

BTW, just got in my mailbox...

"When we changed the label (on an industrial print&apply machine) the printer lost the print."
Just like that. It's just like saying "when i put pasta into boiling water the fire went off". Or "I replaced the batteries on the remote and the TV shut off".

Now... I may be the expert for assistance on these item at work, but i'm not so into miracles or exorcism...

At least it's more than "it doesn't work".

I have a pletora of "I swear it didn't work before", or "I did the exact same things and it didn't work", or the amazing "the computer doesn't send the file to the printer, it's a net problem" when i can connect with both the computer and the printer from my office...

We are Italians, we have a lot of imagination. A fucking lot...

One of my preferred is "it doesn't work anymore since the IT guy pass in the office" when the IT guy actually pass through the office (which is actually the only way to go from one place to another as it is an open space and the main corridor) but never did anything on any computer.

"The cup holder on my computer is broken."
I actually got one of the rumored "The computer doesn't work." When the screen was just turned off.

I have the opposite, things magically start working once I've walked from the 4th floor to the 3rd floor of the building next door to check a fault.

10x more likely to happen if I decided to take the stairs too!

Ok, this is from a person who doesn't know a word of english, but...
"The printer doesn't work and the display says "printer ready", what can I do to start?"

And of course there are always the classic tales of people trying to force 25-way D plugs into 50-way sockets.

Sadly once I was on the other side.

The Internet at home was not working. After cleaning up the hard drive and restoring the system I called an IT guy. He came in, adjusted the Ethernet cable in the socket, checked that Internet works and went off.

Mind you it was 15+ years ago.

I've been watching Babylon 5 because I've heard its a very good show, once you get past how old the CGI is, was not prepared for how on point its political commentary would be several decades later.

Bit late to the party but I once had a GW manager tell me I couldn't use my GW models in the store! Because they were the previous models (RTB01 plastic beakies and metal terminators). I did get my game because the staff drooled over my models and wouldn't let me leave without bringing them all out, I still fondly remember the manager's "You've got landraider.... their cardboard!". This being shortly after the original went oop and several years before the replacement.
