Finally got my money guys! Took a couple of months but I'm finally not the lowest paid member of my team!

The wild roller coaster ride continues however, as my manager is moving away and it's up to me to assume his functions until a new one is hired

I read it somewhere on the internetz (so it has to be true), that a big bunch of security issues in programs come from stuff copy pasted from stackoverflow.

This would not surprise me in the slightest xD

And what easier way to get backdoors into programs that to write it in something that's being C/Pd into a program xD

    NO!

    Macros are unconditionally evil!

But the original topic were more about c style arrays than macros I suppose. Like who needs boundary checks anyway.

Who needs boundary checks? Well, the US, obviously. We should build a wall! Wait, that's borders. Nevermind.

Someone trying to prevent idjits from entering something other than acceptable characters in a data field? (If that's not the proper use, well, I'm an HR major, not IT)

Then we are talking about different macros :D

    https://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/preprocessor/replace

I suppose you are talking about excel macros or similar, which is a weird name for functions or something.

You get in trouble when you abbreviate it though.

They did an office shuffle-around where I work a few weeks ago, just before I went on a 2 week holiday.

They've put two people who can't stand each other back to back and now they are having rows in the kitchen.

Also some dingbat stole my monitor power cables. Nothing else on my desk was touched - I left a note to say I wasn't moving. Just my power cables 0.o

When I was working Tech Support, it was "customer(s)" which quickly became a profanity. I'm talking 3rd day taking calls quickly.

I keep telling a roommate who works computer tech support about the "IBM Response":
Guy calls in, windows won't start.
    Nothing is working.
45 minutes of trying things later, with nothing fixing the problem, "is the power on?"
"OMG, windows is starting up!!! Everything's working now!!!"
"Ok, now turn the computer back off, put it back in the box it came in, and take it back to the place you bought it, because YOU ARE ENTIRELY TOO FUCKING STUPID TO BE ALLOWED TO OPERATE A COMPUTER!!! [shouting in original].

Obviously, the dude was fired on the spot, but walked out of the call center to a standing ovation from the other techs.

On computers, some of you may remember the story of the guy who works in our building who does metal work? That he fell for one of those "Attention! This is Microsoft! Your computer has 11 viruses!" messages?
Well, earlier today he almost fell for it AGAIN!
Thankfully the first thing he did was call me through and I told him nope, ignore it; it's lies.
After the last incident cost him an entire computer, you'd think he'd have become a bit more wise :/

And I haven't spoken about my extended family in a while, but I got more news on the home-schooling, breast-feeding, mad mother and her devil-child.
We had thought the father (my cousin) was fading into the background but the biggest dis has to be from his wife herself - they've employed a manny (male nanny) you see. One of the reasons cited was "so that he(the kid) has male influence in his life." Gawd damn... :(
None of the family like the little brat, either; he's a child who has never been told "no" and knows the way to get ahead in life, such as it is, is to throw the appropriate volume of tantrum.
The kid has also taken to attacking people. He'll punch, kick and bite for no apparent reason, declaring, "I'm going to kill you!". To which his mother gives a half-assed "Now-now; that's not nice." in the same sing-song tone she uses when praising him.
This whole situation is a case of matricide in the making...

Macros saved my life. When you have to force gpupdates on 100+ computers in one day it is rather nice to just be able to take a flash drive from one to the next and double click a script

I'm still talking about the ancient c preprocessor that isn't part of the language, just a crappy mass replace tool.

Today I learned that a Scottish Labour MSP once made a petition calling for a 9pm watershed (AKA safe harbor) on the internet.

Think about that for just a second and you've given it more thought than the MSP did.

The second stupidest thing about this is that it got two signatures.

Not two hundred. Not two thousand. Two.
