Definitely a keeper! (Does she play Infinity? Better yet, does she have a sister?!? XP ) There's also that Lego (micro-scale) Hogwarts, for the Hairy Pothead fans. Can't say I want to re-read the books, but it's a fascinating world to wander around in!
She does not play Infinity, but she does like the look of Aristeia! (and she does have a sister but they're very different :P) I saw the Hogwarts but it's microfigs rather than minifigs and I'm not down for that!
Go read Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality (HK Rowling approved, but not canon), it's free at hpmor.com (it also spawned a sequel, Significan Digits... which also spawned another one about the Conspiracy of the Three XD).
Alternatively, read up on how ALEPHy/EI-like the author's think tank is and don't mention their own version of Nemesis You all know ALEPH writes fanfics in the spare runtime. Probably RPF fics about Aristeia competitors.
Well, the writer's "persona" should not be the defining factor of his work... That being said, the book is easy to read, has several good points and upgrades a lot the characters in Rowling's books to a standard that can be believable (up to a point... then Mary Sue syndrome shows briefly). It's an interesting read, however.
True, if we judge writers solely on their philosophy and politics no one should ever read the original books either. What it does do to look at their leanings is it can explain the thoughts and intent the writer had and can explain a little of why a story is what it is. Rowling, for instance, is a fantasist, but of a more retrospective and derivative nature. LessWrong in contrast is more of a speculative fantasist, ironically getting original content and concepts out in a derivative work of what is basically another fairly derivative work. Then again you can just ignore all that crap, declare "Death of the Author" and make your own interpretation.
That's for a comments section, for a proper review you gotta use big words that mean stuff that basically translates down to "cool book, dragons and stuff". Or if you work for IGN you can just steal someone else's stuff and rephrase a few things here and there.
