That's pretty much the only thing I would get stadia for too. Assuming a two year lifespan on any decent gaming PC you'll spend about 300 on Stadia over that time afaik, assuming you're on monthly fee. Saves about 100-200 over budget options I'd reckon.

OTOH games installed on your own device, not reliant on a server being up, with access to mods etc.

Also, America has terrible broadband and terrible ISPs so people with caps will hit them and cost themselves even more. Ho hum...

you dont need the monthly fee for playing stadia. Paying the Stadia Pro is only for the people who want 4K output. Free stadia have a resolution cap of 1080, what is enough for me.

Honestly, given Google's record i don't trust this existing long term, but hopefully some competitor will appear to collect their former users and some form of this will exist for a while, as has happened with several of other dead Google services. I'll wait and see for now.

If you haven't played Fallen Order, you've screwed yourself on a good single player game.

    That is all.

They are google. I hope they dont close the service soon. Its a perfect solution for me to play nice games without building a complete new PC or buy a console for playing only one or two games

I always wonder what's wrong with my gaming habits that I don't feel like I need new PC every 2 years. I mean, besides playing random indie stuff.

Mine was bought in something like 2012 and I've only updated graphic card and RAM since then, in early 2015. Even then it wasn't anything bleeding-edge, just enough to run MKX that was going to be released at the time.

I guess my system would fail if I tried to run yet another horribly unoptimized perma-early-access game on max settings, so maybe that's what I'm not accounting for.

Other than that, I feel like tying hardware updates to changes of console generation is a bit more realistic approach.

Ah, okay. But of course, the free option isn't available yet...

Google took ages to kill Plus, a thing No One Wanted. I doubt they'll kill stadia, a thing People Cautiously Want But Hope Someone Less Evil Offers A Better Alternative To, anytime soon

With my connection I can't even run Stadia in 1080p, so even if I didn't prefer owning my games it wouldn't work for me. And I'm only living in one of Germany's larger cities. :(

Built my rig in 2013 for about 1000€. Since then I have added a bigger SSD (200€) and a new graphics card (180€). I have yet to run into performance issues. Maybe with Cyberpunk 2077 I will need/want to upgrade.

WTF? Im in spain (one of the worst internets in Europe), playing without optic fiber and through a PLC and i have literally zero issues. Around 50mbps.

PS: With Steam, Origin, Epic, etc... you think you own your games?

Well, to be fair most of game editors offer to redeem your Steam key for another platform if they happen to close the service (or if you are pretty convincing that you need to move out of Steam).

Dunno for others similar soft, but I did it a couple of time.

Regarding PC parts upgrading, it's a mix between ads/commercial pressure and social pressure. I have to admit that I do like to tell people I run all my games at max graphics effects. It initially started because I do like very immersive games and display settings are a big part of it. Then it continued because I like to race for (useless) perfs against a couple of friends. PC tech pimping is now a hobby like having the biggest and the most beautiful army for Infinity.
And with VR I'm concerned for my wallet in the coming years... :0

According to the Global Speedtest Index, Spain is 14th, Germany 38th. In Germany, connection speed varies a lot. Average for my state is 23Mbps. My connection gets around 10Mbps. If I lived a few streets to the south or east, 100Mbps would be easy. Friends of mine who lived in a very rural area got barely 2Mbps while my parents who live nearly equally as rural can post dog pictures on facebook at 200Mbps. A big problem is that the infrastructure is owned by Deutsche Telekom, who do their utmost to not spend money. It's a fucking disgrace.

I buy as much as I can on GOG or as physical versions where applicable (Switch/Playstation/3DS).

Getting a new computer every two years is honestly exagerated and a waste of money. You can get a good one that will last 5 years and more for 1,5k and run the latest games. If you pay 1k every two years for your computer, pay a bit more to last longer.

I built a new PC about 2 years ago, mostly as I wanted a CPU upgrade but that meant new motherboard, RAM, case etc with it. I was super lucky to get an 8GB RX 580 on Amazon for about £100, probably the best deal I've ever got so didn't need a new GPU

Gave my old one to my mom though, it was a huge leap for her. Especially loading Windows from an SSD, before she was on an oooold ex-office Windows XP machine, it was terrible.

Under certain interpretations of some copyright laws (ie the ones publishers subscribe to) , you don't ever "own" a game even on physical media. You just own a licence to play the copy.

But it's usually harder for them to remove your access. Always online is basically the only real way a physical copy becomes useless.

Depends a lot on what you play as well. If you wanna do Elite in VR you'll need a better rig than me (xcom and civ6)

Recently discovered Hunt: Showdown (I know, I'm late).
This gem is very good! There are some technical things to improve still, but definitive death with oppressive ambiance and the right dose ov PvPvE is pretty neat... I'll probably grind this beast for the next weeks/months. :D

Ah yea, VR could be a big reason, but I don't play it.

Tbh the most demanding games I've played on this rig recently are... Probably, Arkham Knight (after patches), Shadow of War and MK11, so there's that.

Having already caved and opened an Epic account for the Outer Worlds, I've now picked up Mechwarrior 5.

The voice acting is atrocious, the NPC models and out-of-mech bits feel half-baked, he strategic UI is confusing and clumsy.

But the combat is what really matters and it's good. Mechs are stompy, they torso twist, things feel heavy and weapons are impactful. PPCs will fry your sensors for a second or two, lasers have a nice sizzle, and mechs get quickly beaten up with paint jobs not lasting long after initial engagements.

Not sure if was worth the full $50 but we've not had a single player Mechwarrior game in nearly 20 years, so I may have jumped the gun!

    Wasteland 2 free on GOG.

By the way, I started recently to play "Prey" (the one from 2017), and I'm loving it. I specially like the Mimetics, god bless those fucking critters and the jump scares and constant (nearly paranoic) tension they provide.
