I am brand new to the game and so far only have the Varuna starter box and am looking for help. There is a tournament scheduled in January as a 150pt intro tournament with Decapitation, Supplies, and Supremacy as the objectives. I have no idea where to even begin with putting a list together for tournament play/ be able to complete objectives. I have read through other posts that so far Helot's with SMGs and Kamau with MSR are good, but seeing as this is a 150pt tournament if I went with the sniper and Helot's all my SWC would be gone. I don't know if these would still be as useful at this level or what to use in their place.
Well, the first step to building a list is to look at the missions! What missions will you be playing at the tournament?
Are you allowed to bring two lists or are you limited to one list? Are you allowed to bring link teams? (0 | 32) 3 SWC | 149 Points Open in Infinity Army The Fuselier/Kamau link is strong in the active as in the reactive turn when you only use Fuselier for the link bonus for the Kamau. The hacker can buff your Bulleteer with MMS-2 and can be your attack piece. You can spend Command token to make an irregular order of the Helot to a normal Order if you are short of them. Don't know if I would deploy the Croc Man in hidden deployment or as TO Token. He will be your main specialist for Objectives.
We are allowed two lists and link teams. As far as I know it is using ITS X rules, but is starting at 150pts in January and then climbing to 200 in Feb and then full 300 in March. The idea was to better ease new players like myself into it so we wouldn't have to buy a full army to begin playing.
Varuna Starter is very SWC and points heavy. What's your budget for further purchases? Would recommend the normal PanO starter cause you have three Fuseilirs and an second ORC. The other 2 models could you ceep for vanilla.
I agree. The vanilla PanO starter is a great purchase for Varuna! You can also use the other two models as proxies! The Nisse sniper could be a Croc Man or maybe a Zulu Cobra, and the Akali could be an Echo Bravo.
I have around $100-$200 that I could put aside to buying more models, but it would most likely also have to be stretched to include any models that would make up a full 300pt list by March.
Ben Kenobi, correct me if I'm wrong (which is most likely) but in the list you suggested would the link team be made up of only the Kamau and 3 Fusiliers leaving it as a four man team?

Don't know the $ prices, that are the € prices - PANOCEANIA STARTER PACK ~40 - FUSILIERS ~31 - ZULU-COBRA, SPECIAL RECON AND INTERVENTION GROUP (JAMMER) ~12 - CROC MEN (MULTI SNIPER RIFLE) ~11 - ARMBOTS BULLETEER (SPITFIRE, HEAVY SHOTGUN) ~31 - DRONBOT REMOTES (REM) ~28 With this models you should have a good amount of models to build your list from. I'm no PanO player, but with that stock I would start. Some of them are optional.
It's not all new people, including me I think there is only 2-3 new players. Ok I thought that the special fireteam core footnote in the army builder meant only 3 fusiliers or 2 orc troops could be put into a core fireteam.
Kamau have wildcard, which mean you can substitute any other Fireteam member, as long as you further fulfill the requests (Harris etc.) Edit: @ddobberstine now I know what you ment. These are only exceptions, you can allways build a normal Fireteam of only these models as well.
Ok so if I'm understanding it right now fireteams work where you would normally only be able to take say a five man fusilier team as a core team. However, since the sectorial says you can mix match fusiliers along with orcs, and kamaus say they override it as well they can all interchange.
Im starting Varuna myself, and compiled the following: 4 fusilier (starter = 3) 1 orc (varuna starter) 2 kamau (varuna starter) 1 echo bravo (varuna starter) 2 zulu cobra (varuna starter = 1) 2 fugazi 1 croc man (varuna starter) 1 peacemaker With these you have enough toys to play with and can build a pretty competitive list. Some things you'll have to proxy, or buy/borrow, but its a pretty good bang for the buck
