Hello fellow Tohaa players, I am fairly new to Tohaa and still improve my list building. I am facing a tournament with the following missions: Frostbyte, Power Pack, Supremacy and Highly Classified. I have prepared some lists. One is only for Highly Classified and the other for the remaining three missions. The ARO triad Gao Rael, Sukeul are always supposed to be in the backfield and securing some fire lanes. Rasail will also be used to synch with the Xenotech. The remaining Triads are supposed to score the necessary points. Any feedback is highly appreciated. First, I'm uncomfortable with 13 order lists. If you don't go second, you will lose 2 Orders. Second, in the HC list you should make the Rasail the LT too, otherwise you will lose your LT Order. I ran Hatail always solo too, cause you can then put her into a IMP2 marker. But overall the list seems very solid.
I often play low order 13 order lists. The use of the elite troops can often be something people are not expecting especially multiwound units. They key would be having units in the 2nd combat group that have a use/purpose that can contribute to the first order group in the event you have to go first or even in later game. Generally I wouldn't have a lone triad sitting in group 2 as it's extremely order/command token inefficent to use them once the link is broken. The HC list is that your group 2 doesn’t seem to have a role in the active turn. The ML/sniper can be useful to knock out enemy pieces that are on ARO but again this is highly classified. It’s not doing an objectives and would need to move in order to be an active turn kill piece. Moving the triad into group one and taking the Kaauri, Chaksa and Clipsos into group two might open up different options. Goodluck
Are you justmore comfortable playing smaller lists? In my experience tohaa doesnt start functioning at its best until you have 20+ orders. It is the only faction advantage left now that so many sectorials have mixed fireteams. As for the spread. The hmg suk is sooo much better than the ml. I get you have a mixed triad with it, but that triad will crumble to an experienced player. You might get 1 or 2 decent aros with the sniper, but the ml will only be worth its value vs people that you should be able to beat even without it. I would drop the ml for three more makaul. Sniper is fine if thats yer jam. Itll prolly eat up a couple orders each game. Mebbe even keep a lane clear if yer lucky. Aelis keesan is garbage. Bring two of the kamaels for about the same price. She has a 5% advantage for achieving objectives, but brining two gets you three orders in the course of a game. Sure she has a gun, but if yer shooting with her and not one of the 4 shooty guys yer bringing yer not in a great position. The sakael paramedic is much better, if you can afford it, which you could if you cut some of the extras off the list. Two kaeltar is fine, itll prolly annoy yer meta, wholl complain about tohaa being broken, but who prolly dont know tohaa also has the worst armor stats of all the factions. The rasail is whatever. I suggest not playing it, but i see people loving it. I assume it feels nice for a tohaa player to be able to kill something with shooting reliably. Id be surprised if its relevant the turn after it runs across the field any game. Its the third of yer 4 shooty guys that i can see, which makes me think you like shooty guys. Point for point, the sukeul hmg is just flat better for shooting. So the thing about shooting, tohaa is never going to be as good at it as any other army, because of the lack of marksmanship and the lack of five mans fire teams. Sure, our crappy guys bottom out at 11, but the cap is 13. Other armies are going to be shooting you with their best guys, not their crappy bs 10 guys. Tohaa can only really win firefights through trickery or by being bad dudes and killing the cheerleaders. Tohaas greatest strength is the makaul, which are the best cc units in the game. Any tohaa list i see not running 6 i have to assume the player either has never run a link of 3 makauls across the board, or they are just goofing around trying to do something other than the best thing to do with the army. Any mission where you wanna kill troops, they are the best units for that mission. They are the most reliable unit in our faction, but they need minimum 16 order lists in order to function. That being said, the missions dont seem to be super killy, which makes me even more confused about all the shooty guys. I would suggest more specialists in general, prolly some with symbio armor so the kaeltar can keep them safer. Also, the kaauri smg is a million times better than boarding shotgun. You can put it into suppresive fire right, but you can also position it "poorly" so yer opponent thinks they can get a back shot on it, but then you can suppressive in response because of sixth sense level 2. Kaauri smg are prolly like 3rd best profile in tohaa.
Yes, the 13 orders are something which I don't like as well. But I tested other lists and always end up here again :-) Thank you very much for the feedback and I will definitely implement your LT suggestion.
Thank you for the feedback. I followed it and moved the triad to group 1. Will try the list on Thursday :-)
