UHLAN FIXING - DISCUSSION

Try it more than once, try it till you learn when it works and when it doesnt, tweak the support in your list and try it again.

Its something I dislike on these forums, we spend so much time and effort going "X Y Z" could use this and that to be better, rather than spending the time going "When and how does X, Y ,Z work"

There are very few units in the game that are actually bunk

Anyway, it's fair to point out that the Uhlan suffers a little in comparison to other choices.

It COULD do with a little buff (ambush camo might actually be ideal) or a small price drop.

It's not fair to get nasty about people pointing out the obvious.

 

The problem with that it's competing for the position of the Swiss Guard, which in many cases, the Swiss Guard can do better, especially if you play on more open tables like the book. Swiss Guard has one less hit point, but he has a better chance to dodge, better chance to be not hit, and zero chance of being possessed. What's more he can pretend to be a Hexa at least for the first turn, which is less obvious as I think the OP meant, than a big Uhlans camo marker.

That's not universally better than a Uhlans, of course, but it's a good sale, especially since Swiss is 30 points cheaper.

 

Uhlan weak? Really?

It's expensive, but it's one of the best hunter-killer units in PanO. It's small, camouflaged, and has Stealth, all of which means it has nice maneuverability and is able to catch enemy out of cover most of the time. HMG works against LI/MI/HIs, Feuerbach against SHI and other TAGs. It pair with Squalo in a similar way how Tikbalang pairs with Dragao.

edit: as for its comparison with Swiss HMG: Swiss is less durable, slower, and less flexible weapon-wise. Sure, we pay for it, but it's worth the price.

 

Swiss also has to choose between scoring and maximum damage.
And while the MR swiss can fight when it has too the Uhlan requires no such compromise

 

Nobody asked but have a good Uhlan list.

Bipandra is a lot less pointless now, but the CSU changes are hot as, that Duo is legit.

Haunglong is right to point out the Black friar, in an Uhlan list they are invaluable due to what they force on MSV troops thanks to albedo

 

New CSU are *insane*, cf. a Brawler or Ghulam for the same cost.

 

If We are proferring lists, while I like haungs Id look at something more like this.

Theres a lot of mutual support and overlap in that list, the Friar does double duty as the Anti-skirmisher/warband piece with Dropbears nad MSV multi rifle, there are 2 solid ARO range pieces in the Linked ML and hte TO MSR, and the uhlan is your Beatstick with plenty of fuel in the tank who is then covered by a nice nasty TO KHD

 

it's a meme with good intentions but still a meme that needs to die.
Annoyingly sometimes it is even correct.

Here is the deep dark secret of infinity.
We don't know how good or bad models really are when playing infinity. For example the value of a model changes when looked at in the context of missions and even local table meta.

The TAG might be overpowered and the people who think so are going to look at you like your nuts when you say it sucks... but without more tournament data backing that up it is just an opinion.
Personally the number of situations that I would rather have the TAG over a Swiss with two CSU's or Auxilia are pretty small but enough people who are better at the game then me use it, so maybe they are on to something.
