just looking at them the katyusha looks more like a burst 3 total reaction weapon to me and the uragan model the other.

    am i the only one?

    Triangular Rocket- Total Reaction.

I Imagine it firing the whole pod at once.

I also imagine that the Katusha fires more than one at a time as well, but they're smaller so they land in an area where they combine their effect in game terms to one blast marker.

Makes more sense to me that the one that looks to fires clusters of 3 missiles is burst 3.

Worth remembering that in the last edition the Tractor mulls fired completely differently. If I remember correctly it used to be one laid down repeated templates on a single spot and the other fired in a sort of line three templates wide.

I never did get around to printing out 3 blast templates in a line for use with Katy.

Though in hindsight I now know I could have just taped 3 CDs together.

every time i look at katyusha i think of the early active protection system launchers fitted to modern tanks that instantly turn towards the threat and fire off 1-3 micro explosives to place a thick flack cloud in the missiles path

Every time I see a traktor mul I think it should be able to shoot missiles at 1km instead of having rifle range bands.

I always assumed this was more a statement on the general efficacy of basic ECM that most troops have as part of their ComLog/Military gear. Like the missiles are accurate just if they're flying for more than a certain amount of time the rudimentary rockets have trouble tracking. But having said that I'm not even sure if they are supposed to be guided at all....

It would be nice if in N4 they made the guided trick a little more worth it somehow. I understand it was needed in N3 because it was a bit over the top in N2. Sad that I almost never see people attempting it now in my local meta.

I would love to see my tractor mules being used as artillery rather than as a source of cheap orders.

It's less that the guided mode isn't worthwhile, but more that most forward observers have rifles and good enough BS that it's more order efficient to just shoot the target rather than mark them, then lob a shot.

Maybe if guided could be used with command tokens instead of orders, or if the muls had an irregular order that could only be used for guided mode, sort of tactical awareness level x...

I think it would be cool to FO without drawing an ARO.

A bit like cautious move. Allow the unit to move half it's speed and declare FO without triggering ARO

Even giving forward observers a bonus on longer range bands would make it more worth while to attempt, rather than fire the rifle.

Or in lieu of that. Make forward observers like triangulated fire that always fire on unmodified WIP. Gives you a reason to risk getting shot if you can mark a TO, Camo, ODD piece.

@cazboab that’s true. I think the few times I forward observed a target rather than use a rifle was for targets that a rifle would struggle to put down, like a tag or a Djanbazan in cover at long range.

I like the idea of giving forward observe range bands another look. Or giving a forward observer some type of equipment that gives him or her say +3 WIP when attempting to forward observe (or just build the buff into the skill).

In every action movie ever, it’s the “Foxtrot” laying on a cliff top in camo calling in an air strike. They never see him and he doesn’t move.

I think it would make sense to make FO a full turn order and make it EITHER not provoke AROs OR make it like berserk where the FO and any return ARO are not face to face.

I honestly prefer the latter option. Giving that +3 to BS to an active turn piece, say Vet Kazak AP HMG who is already in a link with an FO that doesn’t provoke any ARO is pretty close to if not well past OP. But, it may be worth it in some cases to trade my specialist to add that targeted state for a tough to kill ARO piece, reference the not face to face option.
