    Battle for the ringroad
    10 person tournament with ONYX

This season I had decided to leave my aliens on the shelf and try the Ikari Company. But due to some delays in the mail service my second wave of models was late for the tournament, I know that proxying is a part of infinity but I have been doing that so much lately and I really wanted to try Kernaut in onyx so this was the perfect time.

    Missions

    Acquisition
    Unmasking
    Firefight

    Planning my lists

Sure wish I had more time for planning. Much things happening in life left me really short handed on list building. I knew I wanted Kernaut in a Unidron link so I build around that. I also wanted to give the overdron HRL another spin. It seams to always over preform but somehow rarely make it into my lists.
My alternative list included a fracta for firefight and a noctifier. I brought a nexus hacker as my obvious boss in both lists. Onyx is really lacking in the cool boss department. Easy to spot and pretty easy to kill with no chain of command.

Game 1: acquisition against Combined Army

Playing against other servants of the EI in Stockholm is extremely rare so I was really happy! I don’t recall who win the wip roll but I got first turn. During deployment my opponent placed around 200 points on the table. He had a S6 camo marker on the table which could mean a Anetematica lieutenant, a q-drone covering my linkteam and both a datzuratsi and his own Kernaut hanging out close to the large camo marker. Further back, protected by the drone he had dr worm and some flashpuls bots on ARO duty.

I placed my lieutenant probe on a roof far away and my force spread out fairly well. My M-drone placed central to capture the objectives.

    Turn 1
I moved out with a coordinated order, moving all my drones and ikadrones. My q-drone starts to flank around my right side to go after the camo marker and it’s friends. My opponent reveals his noctifier who fires a missile which covers both the a-drone and a Ikadron. I fire back and the drone wins with a crit but the Ikadron is gone. Next order places suportware on the drone and it continues on its mission, killing the dogged noctifier like it’s no thing. Love my drone, usually my mwp (mwd?)

My drone goes after Kernaut, baiting my opponent to reveal his TO camo monster which he does, anetematica hacker. A fierce gunfight erupts. Kernaut shoots a repeater close to my drone and keep making arm saves for the annoying killerhacker. My drone runs out of orders and moves to cover behind some rocks.

From the main orderpool the Overdron advances, same path. I wanted to first engage only Kernaut but the terrain made it impossible so it had to fight the world! Oponent chokes to thy to hack the TAG via the repeater and I fired HRL at the anetematica. After a lengthy fight the anetematica, Kernaut and the datzuraki was dead. My deflector really helped. This was basically my entire turn but I had killed around 120points so not bad.

My opponent was pretty low on orders but sent his Speculo to kill both my m-drone and a Ikadron hanging out nearby. He also killed my plasma sniper with his q-drone. Last order put Speculo back in inpersonation.

    My turn two

I really needed to kill that q-drone but how to?
Time for Kernaut to shine! I spec fired a repeater next to it and used my nexus lieutenant to immobilise the drone. Then my own drone put it down for good.
The rest of my orders went to moving closer to the objective. Dr worm who is my datatracker leaves the house with the ikadrons and prepares to take the central objective in the last round.

    Opponents turn two

I underestimated how far a Speculo with five orders can move. It simply walked past my defenders and killed dr worm without dying itself. Well played. I should have been more careful.
His last order is used to engage my Q-drone with his nexus specialist at close range but he misses every shot and dies horribly.
He is currently only a few points away from retreat.

    My last turn

My link advances to the left and centre objective. My E-drone captures the right one and I’m all good.

    Opponents last turn

He has just two orders and is in retreat, tough start.
A mad rush from dr worm kills my Unidron guarding the left objective but my Q-drone made sure he got no further.

    7-0 to ONYX

    Game two
    Unmasking vs Druze

I have tried playing a few games with Druze so I know enough to respect the rather experience medium infantry. This was my opponents second game with them and he did not have to many games under his belt total.

I used the same list as the last game but got first turn this time, time to se the linkteam in alphastrike mode!

I deployed most of the link behind a large los block in the centre of my deployment zone, only the sniper was visible as to invite someone to challenge it. Q and M drone to the left and my overdron as reserve, this would prove wise.

My opponent counter deployed and most of his Druze link was watching my sniper including a sniper, the HMG and the clipper. Tough!

My HRL tag was placed central but hidden from the link initially.

    My first turn

My tag ran forward, killing a FO bot as a warmup. Then came the Druze link. I tried to only duel the killerhacker but could not without facing the clipper as well. Luckily my great burst won the day and they both turned to dust. Thank you TAG.

This made me confident enough to move my plasmasniper forward, partly because I had forgotten about the brawler sniper. A fierce firefight drone out but since it happened at 32.5 inches away from the HMG my robot won the fight.

This created space enough for my M-drone to advance to the left objective and discover the real HWT! Lucky me.
My overdron who also happened to be my datatracker moves to engage and to my suprise Saito Togan leaves hidden deployment to cover the hwt with smoke but my tag wins the ftf and they both die horribly.
With my last orders my link advances and flips the right console.
    Great first turn!

    Opponents first turn

Lacking several models and pretty low on orders my opponent plays really nicely. A hunzakut caught my k1 combi bot in a funny angle and forward observed it. Then his Druze with EM grenades speculative fired and immobilised and isolated the poor bot. His last orders he used to gun down Kernaut with same Druze and enter suppressing fire.
    Nice, safe play.

    My turn two.

Plenty of orders and the right bot for the job close at hand. My M-drone gunned down the fake hwt who I revealed last turn and then moves to the last objective, flipped it and finally killed the last fake hwt. Great going little bot!
My Tag moves tho help the poor link and kills the Druze and the Hunzakut.

The rest of my orders I spend moving dr worm to revive Kernaut and repair the Unidron.

    Opponents turn two

Just a few points short of retreat my opponent shoots a repeater close to my q-drone just to test hacking a bit. He has really no chance to score any points. My drone manages to reset every hack.

    My last turn

I move Kernaut to the repeater my opponent placed and maestro miss Gromoz to death and that all she wrote.

No need for a third turn for my opponent.

    10-0 to ONYX

    Game 3
    Firefight vs Haqq

This will be a hard game. I have met my opponent three times before and he have beaten me two of them. The only time I won was when my skiavoros earned the name Captain Crit since it critted it’s way through turn two and three without mercy and singlehandedly won me the game. Hopefully the spirit of captain Crit would be with me today.

The table was a messy junkyard with many places to hide meat bags with jammers. Yay.
My opponent win the wip roll and chose first turn, I had failed the roll of every single game this tournament. Guess my nexus hacker wasn’t much of a strategist.

Opponent deploys first, the usually mix of cheep troops, nafatuns, TR bot, jammers, red fury krakot and some remotes. Everything is pretty well hidden in and behind buildings, it would be L long walk through jammerland to get to them. Sure wish I had a list with a Rodok link....

I deploy mostly on my right side, only putting dr worm and my nexus hacker on a building to the left. This is my firefight list, no tag but a frakta shotgun (bad choice) and a noctifier (decent choice) my opponent counts swc and suspects a Sfinx. Good guess since the list is only 5.5 swc and 1.5 is hidden.

My opponents reserveis Maggie and it is placed right opposite my Q-drone, eyeballing my little drone.

    Opponents turn 1

Maggie roars into action and starts trading shots with my drone, four dice on eleven vs four dice on eleven. Here the spirit of my Skiavoros was really with me. My opponent spend three or four orders reducing his own tag to a smoking wreck. My last roll included two crits!

And to make it better my plasmasniper guarded the way his engineer needed to go to repair the TAG. My opponent solved that by using suportware on his TR bot an shooting my sniper into doggedness. Still guarding the way for the engineer.

Abandoning the tag my opponent shifts his attention to my obvious lieutenant who I thought I had hidden so well. He spends three command tokens to make irregular orders regular and a muttawi’ah runs up and jams him. Shit.

His last order and the last command token puts four guys on suppressive fire. Hard for my frakta to walk in now.

    My turn 1

I’m in loss of lieutenant due to isolation so not much happening on this turn.
Dr worm repairs the nexus and my q-drone kills the tag dead. The link moves a little forward and a ikadron burns the annoying mutta but dies in trade. Fair.

    Opponents turn 2

Plenty of orders left since I killed one irregular model during my turn. I’m in the lead army killing wise but that can easily change. He moves his tr bot to engage my q-drone and wins the fight! Never send a TAG to do a bots job. He then sends his khawarij spitfire on my right flank to try and kill my nexus. It jumps onto a building next to my link where they can’t se him easily and engages one Unidron who was positioned poorly. It dies and then the way to the nexus is opened. He easily kills my nexus but then realises it’s probably not my lieutenant any longer since I could chose a new one at the end of last turn and the nexus is a poor choice.

The khawarij trades a few shots with my link but I’m in better range and puts him into unconsciousness.
He moves a mutt to a better position and I reveal my noctifier just to have that order turn two and kills the mutt. Hooray!

    My turn 2

Finally a turn where I can do stuff.

My link advances and Kernaut places a repeater close to his hacker, run suportware now I dare you. I forgot to datascan his khawarij on the way, late in the day and all that.
My frakta walks in behind his suppressing krakot forcing it to change facing and enabling my
E-drone to then shoot it in the back. The drone have newer felt so cool.
The frakta can’t really go anywhere since it has a shotgun and my opponent has models suppressing everywhere, it tries a shot at a nafatun but range and cover makes it hard.

    Opponents final turn.

He still has a decent amount of orders and many choices. He is in the lead on specialists but that’s only one point. Army points is the big one. So he runs with the TR bot and kills nearly my whole link, only the K1 kombi left standing. Luckily he can’t run suportware since Kernaut placed the repeater and when Kernaut is down the bot is to far away from the hacker. No marksmanship means Kernaut is just unconscious and I have a doctor.
Luckily my last dogged Unidron with plasma carbine crits the TR bot before it can reach the panoply. His last orders is spent on a nafatun who puts the frakta into survival form and his hacker to brainblast my E-drone through my own repeater!

    My final turn

Time for dr lieutenant datatracker worm to get to work.
It slithers down from the house and revives the drone, then it revives Kernaut via wormbot and with that groups final order it tries to open a panoply and fails. That fail meant I could only get a minor victory. Had he succeeded I would have had four points to my opponents one, a successful datascan and killerhack through the repeater would have made it 5-0 but I had to settle for a minor. Kernaut tried his best with the hacking but despite two dices on 17 vs one dice on 8 my opponent crits and that’s game.

I had 160 army points surviving and he had around 124.

    3-1 to ONYX

Really hard game, I won because my opponent was kind enough to bring a TAG. Onyx vs haqq is really hard. There’s nothing to really bring my superior firepower to bear against. It’s mostly small things hiding and then they surprise me to death. But I got lucky this time and it was a really fun game.

8 TP gave men first place so I finally got myself a cubejaeger.

Really great tournament with great players!
I wish I had thought a bit more on my lists, the first one was ok but had no helpworms for the doctor, super dumb. The second one should have had a frakta with spitfire and it did until I at the morning of the tournament couldn’t find the model. Still, a noctifier is never bad and had my opponent won against the q-drone it would have walked into the noctifier trap next order for sure.

So how did Kernaut work out?
Fairly good but overshadowed by stars like the overdron and the q-drone. His pitcher in link is great and wip 14 is also nice. Never got to try the white noise but I only met one MSV the entire tournament. He’s a keeper in onyx but not so sure in vanilla. 0 swc is nice though.
