Agreed. What in the use of playing Spiral Corps in these events? Aren't they supposed to be the replacement for Tohaa CB? If so why set things up like this and make that notion null & void? It doesn't make sense in my humble opinion. No sense at all.
Why is NA2 its own faction, anyway? Shouldn't the mercs be working for different factions' aims, based on who's paying them the most (sans JSA?)
From what's been said that was the plan with NA2 players being able to pledge their support to any chosen faction, but the campaign software can't really handle it.
I hope that changes in the near future. The program should get upgraded and tested during all the downtime in-between these campaigns until this is possible.
To be fair, once the actual event is up and running I doubt that anyone is going to actually have an issue with you reporting some games you play with Spiral Corps as "Tohaa" matches.
The "funny" thing is that someone asked at the Bostria's Conference when Tohaa is going to have its own sectorial, and the answer was that Spiral Corps is the Tohaa sectorial... Obviously it was sarcasm, but... Is that simple as being allowed to register yourself as a concrete faction but playing with a merc company, NA2 not existing as a faction and JSA yes. Obviously some merc companies shouldn't be allowed to support certain factions (Ikari to Yu Jing, Druzes to Ariadna...). It's actually the idea I'm going to use on Campaign Paradiso that I'm preparing. I'm afraid that, considering the level of competitiveness the campaign reaches, if doing that is not legal, those reports are going to be flagged... If I was playing another faction and I see someone playing with Spiral Corps but reporting his games as Tohaa, I wouldn't care since it fit with the lore. But there are some people that only care about winning, and I don't want to make the effort of making a battle report just to be flagged...
Ikari has canonically worked with YJ, though. Apparently they like YJ more than JSA, even though they helped to engineer the Uprising. And the Druze just don't get along with Caledonia. Great, more flagged reports that make everyone's job harder... just don't do it if it's against the rules. Last time Ariadna got screwed because there were too many fake PanO reports.
My current thoughts on this situation: "Ok, my draals can proxy sukeuls, kiiutan - gao-rael/kotail, but how do I proxy makauls?"
I'd say it's quite the opposite then. Tohaa troops must still control some territories in the Human Sphere, otherwise there's no political point for the Triumvirate to activate the Spiral Corps as they do not trust the smelly humans at all. If you read the Spiral Corps fluff that came along with their army pack, they actually hide their true agenda from any human members of the ship's crew, even though they are allied with them. I think, if they made it look like the Daedalus Gate was sabotaged by Shasvastii (which they did), by using Spiral Corps to help the Tohaa troops stranded inside the Human Sphere they will make a really good political image of themselves and expand their ranks.
According same fluff they pursuit 2 points: - prevent Shasvastii invasion in Tohaa core systems through Daedalus wormhole - find T`zechi Digester to start new arms race. But since it looks like hidden by humans, it may sounds reasonable. Build reputation, take some advance in politics, and use this power to find those digester
What is the opposite? Your argument sounds like spiral should get bigger because spiral tries to increase its reputation?
If Spiral gets bigger then it would end up just adding more merc humans; as in the fluff, Spiral Corp are actively sabotaging the Daedalus gate repairs. No new Tohaa are coming unless the gate gets repaired or somehow a new gate opens allowing them to access the human sphere again.
As far as I remember there're special class ships that can travel via WH without gates. Gates itself are needed for smaller ones. But Im not expert in fluff, so I can be 100% wrong
I am not sure it is a matter of class, ships can travel through a worm hole without a gate, but most worm holes are not stable enough for a ship to transit through with more than a 50% chance of survival. The Combined Army is pushing through the Acheron wormhole, and looses close to half of the ships it sends due to having no gate system in place, but it is willing to take those risks due to the size of its empire. The Tohaa may be less willing to take such a massive risk just to reestablish a link with the Human Sphere, especially when they are fighting the EI on other fronts as well.
