Kaeltars and Symbiomates are perfect for competitive matchups, but yes, they will blunt your development. I strongly recommend to deliberately take options that you don't like. Becoming comfortable with noncompetitive options will make you more competent with the competitive ones. Try a list like this next time (especially if it looks miserable). You'll be way more savvy with Symbiomates and Sukeuls after beating a good opponent with this: Tohaa ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 10 1 SAKIEL Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 23) KOSUIL Minelayer K1 Combi Rifle, D-Charges, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 25) KAELTAR Light Shotgun, Flash Pulse + 2 SymbioBombs / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 15) ECTROS HMG, Nanopulser / Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. (2 | 45) KOSUIL Engineer K1 Combi Rifle, D-Charges, Nullifier / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 29) MAKAUL Heavy Flamethrower, Eclipse Grenades / Pistol, Viral CCW. (0 | 13) TAQEUL Lieutenant (Advanced Command) Viral Combi Rifle, SymbioBugs / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 40) TAQEUL (Chain of Command) Spitfire, SymbioBugs / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 40) KAAURI Sentinel Submachine Gun, 2 Nanopulsers, Nullifier / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 12) KAAURI Sentinel Submachine Gun, 2 Nanopulsers, Nullifier / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 12) GROUP 2 3 1 1 KRAKOT RENEGADE 2 Chain Rifles, Grenades / Pistol, DA CC Weapon. (0 | 14) CHAKSA AUXILIAR (Baggage, Sensor) Heavy Flamethrower / Pistol, CCW. (0 | 10) KAAURI Sentinel (Pheroware T.: Nimbus Sphere) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 17) DIPLOMATIC DELEGATE (iKohl L1, Specialist Operative) Nanopulser, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 5) 5 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army
That list is totally.. what. No Sukeuls. No Rasail. One Makaul. Two Taquels. Two Kosuil. No Gao Rael. No Symbiomates. No Clipsos. Three Kauri. Only two links. Has a Krakot. I feel like you've put all the non-A+ models in a cannon and blasted them at a wall. Lol.
Hehe, I think it is playable and can be pretty enjoyable. I'll give it a try ! Spoiler SymbioBugs will help you, the Taqueuls can do some very good work if you only give them a chance. SymbioBombs, I do not know them much, but they always seemed great tools, and to me, they see little play time only because they are overshadowed by the mates. Just read Eraser for instance. You still have pretty resilient links, each with a swc weapon and a K1 combi for when you are closer. The krakot, with some coverage, can really be a pain for the ennemy if he manages to get up close. The kaauris are good too, just read sixth sense for a glimpse. You have 5 command tokens : use them. The difficulty to me is on the ARO side, mainly if the ennemy plays first. But maybe with the bugs and bombs that can be enough. EDIT : oh the minelayer too, forgot about him. I usually field more viral but I guess I should try to play with less of it also.
There's actually really strong synergy in that list if you know where to look. It's not Sukeul+Symbiomate tier, but it's plenty to foil your opponent and plenty unique to Tohaa.
Aie no clipso no surprise elements It doesn’t fit with my playstyle at all and it’s a slow list (every troups start in dz and taqueul is 4-2) Won’t help you very much in many scenarii I think it’s not a competitive list but whatever the list surely you can have fun with it :))
Found another possibility for playing against Tohaa, play limited insertion, makes it hard to get makauls in it and even Kaeltar are not easily included also play highly classified To take a Hacker or not take a Hacker that is the question ;) and if he only takes the kumotail for the doc and eng missions you only need to kill one unit to make it hard for him to win
I don't really have a typical list for anything. I start by thinking, "What looks fun to play with today?" Then I fill in the gaps with Kaauri and Chaksa. I almost never use the same list twice. I like to be unpredictable. This means my opponents have no idea what they will be facing. You can check out some of my lists from Wotan here: https://wotan.warconsole.com/commander/cothel On a side note, I miss Grog. :(
None that I'm aware of. But my viewpoint (and those that I have played against) is that "if you ignore rolling for ARM/PB, no Guts check because nothing really happened".
I actually don't see where people get the notion that there is a Guts Roll after using a Mate. I mean, the rules for Mates state loud and clearly that you avoid having to perform a Guts Roll. The Guts Roll requirements also mention that you need to make the ARM/BTS roll or survive a non-lethal attack or one that doesn't provoke ARM/BTS -- and using a Mate breaks every one of these requirements.
