On paper he's so good but the hmg one has consistantly dissapointed me. (Though I feel more to bad luck than anything else) The multirifle one has done much better. My gamma has actually been a much more consistent performer.
Omega HMG tends to be best somewhere mid-late game when the initial push has been blunted and there are a few units over-extended or trying to jockey for position to go for objectives late game. Same has been true for Hac Tao for me, but that one has a completely different price so affects what to use to blunt the initial setup much more.
My MVP is always the Omega FO. Always. Last game he managed to shot across the table to approaching specialists. ODD and Multi Rifle vs short ranged weapons is hilarious. And he already performed his dues.
The MR I've found is an incredibly underrated weapon, especially on HI platforms that want to move into the midfield to score. Better CQB range bands than the SMG, and far superior than the HMG in the tight quarters of the mid field. Being able to suppress as well as threaten a DA shot in ARO is great. Shock for all the non immune dogged and NWI models. Stun is hilarious especially when used to nail harder targets in ARO. Then with AP if you engage anything with arm 4/5 it hits as hard as a MK12, and continues to scale up from there.
I used my Omega HMG yesterday and suffice to say he kicked all the ass. Such a strong and efficient trooper, if they don't have MSV they're in trouble.
I enjoy the Omega when I use it and have a healthy respect when playing against it, even with MSV you're still fighting against an elite level HI probably in cover so they're a pain to shift and can generally take more of a beating than the thing which is tying to get rid of them. A Rui shi with marksmanship has good odds in it's own turn, but it's still trying to shift something which is arm 7 and 2 W which is going to kill you if it gets one good F2F result. I've even had a surprise shot Caliban MSV spitfire which has got the drop on one previously and just pattered harmlessly off the arm 7.
Yeah it's a relatively simple unit as a HMG at least, point and click, but definitely no less effective for all that. I'd struggle not to invest in the big gun but a MR/FO option is probably very effective, especially as a Datatracker and for classifieds.
I played on the weekend with Omega MR/FO and was awesome. second turn advanced to get some kills and got the far quadrant pretty easily. is so expensive and the short range was scary for my opponent. he only managed to Isolate him but didn't matter, he was already scoring a lot of points for me. i had a gamma too but in a completely different role, he was sitting on the DZ protecting the left flank and my alpha was taking car of all the close range threats... conciulium is safe with this guys
I used an Omega in my game this weekend. Omega rushed up the table first turn with some support from a Varangian. Used him to take out the designated target for some extra points, and then stuck him prone on a stairwell making it very hard for the fire team my opponent was trying to work up that side of the table to get by. Omega being supported by Varangian and the Epsilon covering the fire-lane locked my opponents' fire team up so well. He was finally taken out by a boarding shotgun, but he made my opponent spend three orders to do it. I've been loving the Omega, I really like it as a unit (probably more than the Gamma personally).
The FO is perfect for acquisition, survivable enough to park it somewhere as both DT and LO and have it not die as well was make the turn 3 dash for the console to cap it for 5 points.
I just used again an Omega FO. Run him midfield and got out of the game two kaplans (spitfire and medicjusttobesure), an Odalisque spitfire and a TR-Remote. That -9 in cover before range is pretty scary, believe me.
I am going to say it. There is no bad HI in O 12, even the new Bronze. Omega are a little meta dependent, I played SP so a lot of people now bring MSV2 which can hurt the Omega but that is what White Noise is for. An Omega HMG has rampaged all over my enemies from time to time.
*ARISE, muhahaha* (Thredanecromantic) Had a game yesterday vs. PanO. (Mission:Rescue) The Omega HMG was great. With a little White Noise support from my Cyberghost he took out the Nisse in my first turn. End of turn he goes suppressive in the midfield. In my opponents first turn he killed a Bolt in ARO and spent the rest of the turn in a shootout with a Tikbalang. End of round my Omega was dead, the Tikbalang lost one wound, but my opponent had to spend 7 of his 9 orders to get rid of the Omega.
