You can do a pure Orc team for the +3BS but that may not be the best use of points. It is fun though, the dice gods were kind to me when I tried it with patsy garnet and my 4 others (we did kind of house rule the team though as it . It’s especially fun since the Varuna orcs have stealth but they are hackable and there are other fireteam combinations that may have better utility. Hope you’re enjoying Infinity so far! Edit: To clarify, we house ruled my orc team as they were all Varuna division and so may not be technically legal. The fireteam rules seem to make a distinction between Orc and Orc: Varuna Division for what constitutes a fireteam. A pure Orc five person as standard team is allowed though.
That would be pretty nasty, but also a ton of points (monetarily cheapest way to hit 300pts though?). I imagine an all Orc team can include both kinds of Orcs. IMO It makes sense that not all Orcs have Varuna training/equipment, but all Varuna Orcs are still Orcs, so they can all work together in their own fire teams. But in order to work with Snake Eater Fusiliers, you gotta be a Snake Eater yourself I guess (or a cool guy/gal like all the character Indigos)? I'm still a big believer in the 2 Kamau + 3 Fusilier link lately, it really limits your ability to spend on attacking pieces, but is such a good anchor team if you remember to buy a more resilient solo attack piece/specialist (Montessa, Patsy Haris + Machinist etc). Although I'm starting to get disheartened by the lack of variety the Sectorial brings (other than Zulu-Cobra shell game shenanigans w/ Uma Sorensen?).
Oh yes, it was quite expensive. 170 points for the five man. I only used Varuna orcs and patsy as I wanted the stealth bonus. As I said, not sure it’s exactly legal but we house ruled it. I’ll try to dig up the list sometime. The kamau/fusilier team is indeed a good anchor and I’ve also had fun running them around as a haris. I use the Zulu cobra shell game just to annoy and act as a distraction carnifex. It’s entertaining though.
Yo damn! 170pts, I can't even fathom, there's so many other toys lately I've only ever used a single Orc as a pointman in teams (mostly Patsy, but that's besides the point xD). Paying for the stealth bonus makes sense, but I'm pretty sure it's legal. How do you feel about taking 3+ Zulus (Sensor, KHD, Spitfire/other gunman/specialist)? With the camo Uma Sorensen I feel like it really upturns peoples' expectations of Pan-O.
We thought it was legal too but we house ruled it just in case. Three Zulu cobras and camo uma are really good for playing the teacups game and provide decent speed bumps to an opponents advance. I’ve used them before like this, especially uma as I get to drop mines with her. I also like the croc men for the same reason but I usually hidden deploy them along with my cutter. Varuna is indeed fun for people not expecting pano to play the hidden units game.
Hi, everyone. Is Varuna as dead as it looks? I am starting to play again after almost 2 years, and this sectorial now looks a bit underwhelming. I started playing Varuna as soon as it was released, because I really liked the Kamaus, the Zulu Cobras, and that general feeling of elite and highly specialized troops. Having the Helots and the Montesa on a bike was also very fun and something different in Pano. But now I go to the Army and I always make the same list... and it's not even as good as before. My favourite Zulu Cobra loadout was the jammer, but now it has only 2 charges. The helots seem worse now that most other things are cheaper, and also I'd swear they had camo with -3 before? The Orc with feuerbach is also worse in a link now without the +3. But what really bothers me is that I don't see many options that I want to try. Specially if I compare it to Military Orders, where everything looks so good now (I'm not complaining, MO was my first sectotial and I'm happy to play it again being so good). It is always something like this: - Defensive Core with Kamau Sniper (maybe Orc Feuerbach) - 2/3 Zulu Cobras: 2 with jammers and maybe a 3rd with something else - 2/3 Helots - 1 Montesa Knigt (paramedic or Red Fury) - Haris: Patsy, Kamau HMG, Machinist - 0-1 Crocman FO or Hacker Spoiler: Typical list Varuna ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 10 1 KAMAU (Multispectral Visor L2) MULTI Sniper Rifle ( ) / Pistol, CC Weapon. TAG lists could be cool I guess, but they are probably better with generic Pano where you have more options to support them. Duo of Montesas sound great, but probably better in MO. Full Core of Kamau could be good, but too many troops and points to put together and move around. Am I missing something?
This is a really good question. I used to be one of our community's most regular Varuna players and I haven't played it since N4 dropped, but a buddy recently asked me to come up with a Varuna list for a new player. I started to take a look at things again. In short - I don't know if Varuna is as dead as it looks. After giving it a look this last weekend, I'm giving some thought to trying to resurrect it. Kamau Sniper isn't as optimal a solution for things as it used to be, but honestly, a full Kamau Core isn't THAT expensive and I think that a Kamau Sniper w/ Fusiliers would still be good even if it isn't as amazing as it used to be. I think the Cutter still has a good home in Varuna, too. Helots are DEFINITELY less useful now than they used to be, though. Zulu Cobras have taken a lot of flak for Jammers being Disposable 2 in this edition, but honestly, I used to use them more for their Triangulated Fire/Sensor/Assault Pistol in N3 and would like to try them again for that. Is Varuna is good as it used to be? No. I think that Acon does most things better. But can it be competitive? I'm inclined to give it a go.
A satellite was won past weekend in Miranda del Ebro, Spain, by "Rolc playing Varuna... Even it was 4 players playing it. So, it looks like no dead at all.
I played vs an interesting list: Kamau full core, Montesa Duo flavored with Pathfinder, Peacemaker and Zulu, supported by a KG #2 Fusi ML haris and fuels the Zulu and the Pathfinder. The list works with the Knights and the REM and should eleminate heavyier pieces with the Kamau.
That's so good to know. It'd be great to know their playstyle and what troops they like to use for some inspiration.

I have a few questions exclusively for the VIRD sectorial Miniatures... There is the Varuna Starter Pack in the store and I wonder, if these are resculpted Models, as they are cheaper than the other starter packs available?!? I startet with N2 years back and had a lot of "old" Models before the 3d moddeling phase. The new Model range looks so cool and with the purchase of a new faction in mind, I really want to get my hands on that resculpted and rescaled miniatures here. (I still have flashbacks with my old and new Jannissaires...) Second question: is the starter a good choice to get into the sectorial here? Or would someone recommend a differend purchase today?
The Varuna starter pack is new 3D models, all the models in that pack are useful and commonly seen in Varuna lists.
It's a mixed bag but not as bad as other starters. The only real dud is the Zulu Cobra Spitfire, the rest varies from vital (Kamau Sniper), to useful (Croc Man hacker, Orc Feuerbach), to occasionally useful (remaining Kamau).
Zulu cobra spitfire dud? weird he has not disappointed me, but I do not have a lot of Varuna games in N4.
oh well thanks for that quick reply - then I iwll give the Starter Box a go here, sounds good to get the sectorial going.
IMO he's very difficult to fit into a list because all he does is shoot in a faction that does shooting better in other places. A plain spitfire for 1.5 SWC is not easily justified these days. But yeah by all means, the starter is not bad at all.
True I have never used him alone usually with one or two more, Zulu Cobras, maybe his effectiveness came for nobody expecting him and expecting a Jammer or killer hacker.
