Congrats! This is a huge win. Thank you for the detailed and useful event report; I'm loving how much knowledge I can glean from this.

Re my earlier post: I think I've made a solid list that includes the HMG Aquila and swaps around some things to gain a KHD bolt with e/m mines + a Friar:

    Neoterran Capitaline Army
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    GROUP 1[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]10
FUSILIER Lieutenant Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10)
    FUSILIER Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10)
FUSILIER Paramedic (MediKit) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12)
    FUSILIER Missile Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 15)
BLACK FRIAR (Albedo, Biometric Visor L1) MULTI Rifle, Nanopulser, Drop Bears / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 28)
    AQUILA HMG / Pistol, Shock CCW. (2 | 62)
    MACHINIST Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 15)
PATHFINDER DRONBOT Combi Rifle, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 16)
FUGAZI DRONBOT Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8)
FUGAZI DRONBOT Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8)

    GROUP 2[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]6
BOLT (Killer Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun, E/Mauler / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21)
    AUXILIA (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle + AUXBOT_1 / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 15)
    [IMG] AUXBOT_1 Heavy Flamethrower / Electric Pulse. (- | 4)
    AUXILIA (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle + AUXBOT_1 / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 15)

    SIERRA DRONBOT HMG / Electric Pulse. (1 | 25)
HEXA MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (1.5 | 32)
MULEBOT (Minesweeper, Repeater) Electric Pulse. (0 | 8)

    6 SWC | 300 Points

What do you guys think? I can also fit the Swiss HMG back in since it's just so good, by removing the Black Friar. But at the same time, having the Drop Bears in the link plus E/M mines in group 2 means I can really set up a good defensive position.

Slight bump because I don't know if the pinging system works when edited in. I'll message a mod later and ask.

@gregmurdock I noticed that your first list (the one you won with) is light on two things I see a ton of in NCA: dedicated ARO pieces and Auxilia. What was your decision process behind going light on both of those?

You do at least have the missile launcher in the Fusilier core, but it's interesting to see basically no other dedicated ARO pieces.

The system does not work, edits are not highlighted, so you made the right choice to add a post.

I always add a post when updating an earlier one.

hmm, well like I said, I went into this with low expectations so I tried a few different ideas.

The first, which I'd had success with at the Ruckus, was deploying the Swiss in HD at the edge of the deployment zone and placing the Aquila as my reserve. People assume that's my big gun and prepare accordingly for that and assume the 10th order is a Garuda or Hexa.

Next, I typically deploy across the zone but this time (per recommendations) tried to condense it. I had so much tied up in attack pieces that I planned on using my CSUs as corner guards. B2 nanopulsars and a light and boarding shotgun felt like they'd do the trick.

Regarding ARO pieces, my plan was to go first and wipe them off the table. Fortunately, that's what happened. If I went second, I would bunker down and then on my turn, wipe them off the table. Since the first two missions were "hold this area", I felt good about being able to do that. The last one, Supplies, you don't need a specialist to carry the box so if my opponent pulled it out it was just a matter of offing them and taking it. I've always been a believer in "don't leave it out if you don't want it to die" and I can think of a better use for this points and SWC.

Like I said, I didn't go into this with a big plan and I'm not some superb player. Everything just managed to work out in my favor.

Play the mission and build your lists around it is always a solid plan. Rather than play defensive, you went all out offense and hiding from retaliation. Its a valid tactic.

Just checked the forum software, and I'm not surprised to see that it's Xenforo lol. I'm on the staff of a very large Xenforo site, and we have so many small issues with it. It's still fantastic software, but there are some odd glitches. Thanks for the answer.

Ah, so it was a case of building for the missions and hoping to go first. Plus a healthy mix of bluffing with the Aquila since you didn't have to worry about local meta knowledge reading you.

Then the CSU's served as corner guards instead of Auxilia, which makes sense to me. It's not that you were neglecting the role in the list, you just chose another (cheaper) model to fulfill it. Nice!

Thanks for the answers; this is very useful knowledge.

This next question goes to you again, but it's more general so anyone can answer it lol. When building a more balanced list that isn't as focused on going first, how many ARO pieces / area control do you run? I keep finding myself using a Fusi ML, Sierra for TR, Hexa Sniper, 2 Fugazis, and 2 Auxilia in nearly every list that I make, mostly due to a fear of Rambo strategies and HI links. My list from earlier on this page fell into this trap a bit, even including two mine-laying units for even more area control.

I'm just really not sure how to properly build a list that's resilient to Rambo / HI link strategies, and I worry that I'm overcompensating.

CSUs have always been the best corner guard option for NCA.

They are only better at it now.

But Auxilia have other uses as well.

Still, an NCA list today with only CSU and no Auxilia doesn't seem wrong, or even strange, any more.

Ah, neat! I'll probably keep running Auxilia since I kinda love the model, but I might pick up some CSU.

I'm also looking forward to running my field-control-heavy list in a few weeks; I'm really curious to see how it turns out with the mines plus the large amounts of ARO. Sadly, I moved to a new area and have to travel back to my old one to do games. On the plus side, I'll run demos here after I get some terrain, and a few now-local friends are interested.

Has anyone given the Deva's Lightning AHD a shot? I'm brewing up a drone-heavy list with the Deva, and I'm curious to hear if anyone has given the newish Deva a shot.

The unit seems fantastic, but after just a short page of discussion, no one said any results or impressions. I'll toss my own impressions into the pile, after I'm able to do some more games soonish.

I've kinda noticed a trend where people don't run hacker-heavy lists in general in NCA, despite our fantastic drone repeaters. Is there any reason why?

I'm sorry but I lost my NCA right around that change and therefore have no practical experience to offer.

But NOTHING ever excited me as much about ALEPH units in NCA as that Assault Hacker + Lightning did.

Lightning is the perfect addition to the huge Repeater coverage our Remotes offer. It adds significantly to the threat each one of those units presents.

The reason you don't see Hacker heavy lists in NCA is basically because most of our Hackers are pretty poor ('though well priced in most cases). But what we ARE good at (especially now) is strong utility and defensive Hacking. I can certainly see myself building a Fusilier Hacker, Hexas KHD AND the Deva AHD+Lightning into a list.

Aw, that's a shame. NCA is a blast.

But yeah, the Deva is very exciting. It looks like a phenomenal hacker, and I suspect it may be exactly what remote-heavy lists needed.

So with our Uhlan and Squalo having Tactical Awareness now, who would like to brew up a list for each with me? I'm really excited.

I tried brewing up this list with the Aquila as a second kill unit, but I haven't had a chance to test it even before the TA change:

    Uhlan + Aquila
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    [IMG]10
    UHLAN HMG, Feuerbach / . (2 | 99)
[IMG] CRABBOT Flash Pulse / Knife. ()
FUSILIER Lieutenant Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10)
    FUSILIER Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10)
FUSILIER Hacker (Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 18)
FUSILIER Combi Rifle + Light Grenade Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 14)
AQUILA FTO (Specialist Operative) MULTI Rifle / Pistol, Shock CCW. (0 | 59)
    AUXILIA (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle + AUXBOT_1 / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 15)
    [IMG] AUXBOT_1 Heavy Flamethrower / Electric Pulse. (- | 4)
    MACHINIST Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 15)
    PALBOT Electric Pulse. (0 | 3)
    SIERRA DRONBOT HMG / Electric Pulse. (1 | 25)
HEXA MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (1.5 | 32)

    6 SWC | 300 Points

Edit: After a bit of finagling, I think I made a stronger list. No Aquila though, but instead it has 15 orders plus the Uhlan order. I'm running a mulebot instead of a third fugazi to minimize proxying (I have a third fugazi coming in soon), but otherwise I think this list is very solid.

^I did the second list (the one without aquila) last Sunday, and it performed very well! It was against Spiral, and he deployed very defensively with me going first. Mission was Loot and Sabotage.

The Uhlan got a few kills but overall didn't have enough out to target, but it soaked up plenty of orders as he tried to kill it. It also didn't help that the Bulleteer couldn't fit into a specific passageway despite my best hopes, so I dropped it into Suppressive instead of using it to pick off some units. It did pay off, though. He was forced to take out the bulleteer and my sierra with his smoke + msv shenanigans, eating up tons of orders.

Sadly, I didn't win. It was entirely due to misplay on my part; instead of using my pathfinder to run a d-charge (looted from panopolie, however it was spelled) to blow up his antenna, I went for cool Pacific Rim points turn 2 and tried to punch the antenna to death with my Tag. It didn't work, but I did at least go into camo to make him use more orders. Turn 3, I tried to run my auxilia up to do the same (despite Pathfinder being alive), and it would have worked if I hadn't been greedy and tried to flame a group, allowing him to get off a Warning! and stand people up.

Still very intense at the end though, as he nearly didn't have enough orders to get to my antenna. He blew it up on the last order and the only CC chance he had, having spent all his orders to get there. His 5-man team allowed him to use all three d-charges at once thanks to bonus CC attacks, which hurt lol. I'm not sure if that was the proper ruling, but we were pressed for time and trusted another player's judgement.

It was a very fun list to run, and I look forward to trying it again. I think a Swiss very much could have done similar work to the Uhlan, but the Uhlan ate up orders pretty well. The extra irregular order was also incredible to have access to, even if I wasted it through misplay.

uuuhhhh how do we do Countermeasures? The best I can think of is "add the Locust asshacker".

I'd avoid a locust, but the deva AHD can cover a shocking array of classifieds thanks to also being a Veteran Troop, and has the highest WIP of any specialist.

If you were comfortable building specifically for the scenario, you could almost justify two of them (or one AHD, one HD if you wanted to be able to provide supportware to REMs) and then otherwise emphasise aggressively attacking the enemy with the goal of doing ~4 classifieds over the course of the game but keeping the enemy pinned back with big guns.

No single super-unit, but a whole heap of great little toolboxes.

Idk about you guys but reading into the buffs that TAGs got made me want to put them on the table again. I brewed this two tag list for Firefight, 2 tags using the bonus tac aware with lt order seems pretty decent. Have not play tested it however.....

Hey! ... and what about NCA for biotechvore in Limited insertion format? Previously in Varuna tactics post, we discussed how to make a list for this same scenario, but now I was thinking about NCA ...

I had in mind a couple of Swiss Guard: HMG and Multi rifle (can be AHD or not), a duo of CSU, and a core of fusiliers: FO, Medkit, Hacker, Lt + Aquila Guard FTO. (probably the Lt. is very obvious so I could change the medkit fusilier for a basic one). There would be 25 pts app leftover, I thought of a bulleteer or maybe a Deva ...What options do you think there are?
