Any tourney with the Soldiers of Fortune extra will see a lot of him, sometimes alongside a pack of Yuan Yuans. I'm not particularly looking forward to seeing Raoul and Emily all over the place at Interplanetario, but taste of our own medicine I guess!
This thread has got me adding Raoul into my lists again, proxying him with a Hellcat BSG. I had a great time with Raoul in my last game. We were playing transmission matrix and my NCA opponent was running an Uhlan around the edge of the board to avoid the repeaters, shooting up all my ARO pieces before running out of orders. I had been holding Raoul for a shot at the Uhlan since deployment because, frankly, he was my best answer for it. He finally ran out of orders on the top of turn two with the Uhlan on the board edge and I was stressing walking Raoul in near him as he would have been spotted. Fortunately, there was an Irmandinho about a foot from the Uhlan so when he activated impetuously, I hucked smoke on the Uhlan, opposing his BS 15 HMG. Well, 17 vs 15, why not. I won the roll and the Uhlan was shrouded. Raoul waltzed on a couple of inches away and spent an order to walk into him and whack him with the electro sticks, Isolating and Immobilizing him in one order. I left him engaged so the Uhlan couldn't ARO HMG anyone else and moved on with the game. Would bring again, 10/10.
You didn't need to leave him engaged. While IMM BS Attack is not a valid Declaration. You're basically limited to Reset, Discover and maybe 1 or 2 others.
Raoul walked in on Joan and a Crocman, tossed a Drop Bear to prepare the assault and popped out of cover, just to flub the shooting and die. I canĀ“t imagine how he managed, but it was miserable. The odd thing was the puny mine took a wound of both Joan and the Croc!
Whoops, good point. I ran Raoul in a Kurage mission last night and he did great things. He combat jumped into the opponent DZ and beat a hack transport aircraft roll on a crit 13 then went to town on an acontecimento regular link team locking down the board with a sapper sniper, cleaving their Lt Combi in two and boarding shotgunning a mulebot EVO down before taking a ton of combi wounds from the rest of the team and getting wiped off the board. Truly a blaze of glory, and the opponent LoL on turn two won me the game. It's going to be hard to ever run a Hellcat again. I should have saved a vanilla nomads list with him in it during the brief window where he was available. At least I can keep using him when I switch over to Tunguska after more models come out.
Hellcat AD is kinda going into the heavy weapon niche for me. But... i can see taking one alongside Raoul, either to clear the dropzone before the big guy lands, or to come on the opposite flank as a decoy.
Paramedic can be nice because it's cheap enough to try to AD right on the objective for a huge advantage imo. If only Raoul could take a Spitfire...
I've experimented with that: I tried the Hellcat HMG alongside Raoul, but found that what I really needed was the Spitfire, to clear threats he couldn't deal with. I was facing a list with a crapton of TO snipers and Raoul just couldn't clear them.
I found I just wasn't using the HMG. I dropped it for an Alg HMG, Jaguar and Warcor (6 person links are useful when you're running an obvious ARO piece in the link).
So far my Roul heroically died vs. Knifes in two games in a row. The first death was caused by a Daktari not even critical but bad rolls are bad rolls - classical first use bad luck. The other death was due to a Su Jian's crit and despite Raoul critting on a 15 he wasn't able to crit himself.
He was awesome in my first game and I've flubbed with him ever since. Bandit KHD has been getting work done though, more than making up for it.
Highlight for me so far is the 3 order slapfest he got into with a Daturazi the other day - bare handed vs DA CCW. Of course the morat lost. Just took him a while to admit it.
Am i mistaken, or can't he hurt someone with his EM/2 weapon? EM CC Weapons have EM+N. EM2 CC Weapons only the EM twice. And EM on its on can't hurt only annoy.
I mean, technically the EM/2 CCW doesn't exist! http://infinitythewiki.com/en/index.php?title=CC_Weapon&redirect=no
If you see E/M2 as a modifcation for E/M (analogue to DA and N) then you have a working E/M2 CCW (two halved BTS rolls plus one ARM roll) which is actually useful instead of being just annoying. @ijw right?
Yes that's correct: it's described in the Uprising book I'm fairly certain. The point was that you're more likely to do Damage with fists than the EM2 CCW due to the way Crits work.* * Assuming you're using the +3 to CC / +1 Phys to Dam mode.
So PanO are the only ones with Drop Bears (besides Raoul)? Just in case you are interested in his origins, I think he's a mix-up of Bushman and Moon Knight: Even the Logo seems to be a mixture of Moon Knight's Moon and Bushman's military insignia.
Raoul died to pistols. Again. Trying AD troops against ISS is incredibly frustrating. The sheer number of dogged chain rifles/pistols they flood the board with for < 50 pts is surreal. I can't figure out if I think Kuang Shi or Muts are more broken... However, it is making me realize that I need to be more careful when attacking with shotguns. The +6 to attack is tempting but it will never replace the safety in attacking with a high burst weapon. If you misjudge the range and you're out of 8" then your 2 shots versus 1 ARO (or more!) is very, very risky odds. Basically if I can't get him into the target's rear arc, keep him in reserve for another turn and continue to push with the more traditional shooters.
