There is a reason. You can use it to make a 5 man Vet Kazak Fireteam.

Make the special Fireteam of 3 Vet Kazaks+2 Frontoviks, except use 0 Frontoviks. Then have 2 more Vet Kazaks invoke Wildcard Trooper to fill in the Frontovik slots.

You can make it anyway. Veteran Kazaks have standard Core. It's omission from Army is a bug.

The more I play around with TAK in Army the more I settle into ~14 models. TAK has a bunch of buff killers with great fireteam options. Those might be a trap though, sort of like in ISS - the Hsien is good by himself for example. At the end of the day, I suspect I'll settle into a pure Line Kazak Core (maybe with the HRL Frontie in there) and a few pricey power pieces. It's funny...in Vanilla Ariadna, I almost always take 2x Spets HMGs and a Tankhunter AP HMG - here I'm taking totally different units when those guys are higher AVA. Great sectorial design IMO.

As it sits now, I'm planning to play this next game:

You can very easily make a 16-18 order list for TAK that still looks aggressive as hell.

I have seen this comment several times. I think you all are stuck in a feedback loop about how you all used to play Ariadna. TAK isn't Ariadna. Yes, it isn't quite USARF. However, there is no way you could play USARF like TAK, where you could easily make an effective list that covers USA's strengths.

USA nothing to match the following: Tankhunter, Scout, Vet Kazak, Spetz, Irmandinhos, Assault Pack

I would argue the first four units are considered absolutely critical for the best vanilla lists. Especially the Spetz.

Now consider the reverse. Really the only standout profiles in US is the grunt and Van Zant. Armor 3 static cheerleaders are pretty damn great. And they have a solid loadout. There is nothing like Van Zant.

Marauders can be substituted with Streloks and Fronts. Yes they don't have dogged. However, they both have access to mimetism which is a massive power increase that ensure F2F are won. The roles they fill are the same and their power level is probably equal.

Foxtrots vs Strelok types. They do very similar jobs. Yes the 18 foxtrot FO is great and Streloks are more expensive. However if you take 2 FO Streloks, 1 Minelayer and one Smg, you get very similar results for 5 plus points. You also have the option of going more expensive and taking a Scout.

Hardcase vs Strelok SMG. Again same roles, you get a lot for the 4 more points you pay over the Shotgun.

Bikes are the only spot where US has a clear edge over TAK because Mavericks and Desperados are such strong profiles. Dyanmos and Carmen both look very strong as well.

Again, yes these are all different profiles, but they really all fill the same roles. In many ways they are just different flavors of the same. However, there are three more elephants in the room. That is the insane amounts of T2/AP/Marksman/Whatever weapon types, Camo out the wazoo, and significantly better link options. The US has a lot of fire and that is about it.

The summation to me is that you could quite easily play TAK as US, but really why would you want to? TAK has way more flexible options and is not limited by over dependence on characters. Does this mean USA is worthless? No, they can still make some effective lists. But if it wasn't for the season 10 band-aid, they would be pretty obviously outclassed in most ways.

I'm super jazzed for TAK (and ALEPH, but thats because its making a friend of mine start the game) and am loving all the new variety that is opening up. And that while i appreciate the absurd amount of forward deployment that is possible in TAK i must say it lack a certain je ne sais quoi...

Here's my initial take on TAK leveraging what I see as the strengths of the sectorial: High BS Firepower that is maliciously point-efficient and multiple Antipodes both for sensoring and to take out shooting threats that generally have high BS modifiers (Ryuken 9s, Posthuman Snipers, Sphinxes, Swiss) who your HMGs would struggle against or would prefer not to take in a shoot-out.

Breaking down the list, in Group One you've got the power of the Vet Kazak + Line Kazak link, with two back up line kazaks to keep that Vet with the 5-man link bonuses. You've got a HMG Spetsnaz, still one of the most point-efficient and deadly single units in the game. And you've got Assault Pack Number 1. Group One where the main battle pieces of the list are found - you've got the Vet Kazak who has never felt so strong in his life (and can lug around his assortment of specialists), you've got a Spets HMG and you've got an Assault Pack who can touch anything on the map.

Group Two, you've got TAK's ARO of choice - the TH Missile Launcher. Pound-for-pound, one of the leanest and most efficient ML in the game, this is TAK's Noctifer (with less tricks sure, but a camo-ed ML amongst a vertiable sea of camo tokens on your side of the table is still a camo-ed ML. And let's not forget, the TH has Advanced Deployment Lvl1 now). You've got a Stretolok K-9 not only acts as your sensor (letting the Assault packs keep their camo state for hunting big game) but also forces on lightly armored enemies (looking at you other Camo Skirmishers) a very cheeky Catch 22 - Shoot back, or be forced to dodge both a Chain Colt and win a F2F with a Trench Hammer Antipode. As an afterthought, she even brings mines. The Strelok K-9 is born to win the midfield, projecting an anti-camo area of influence through her own camo-ed state and her CAMO-ED sensoring K-9. Rounding off the list, you've got a cheap and cheerful Stretlok FO, a Kazak Doctor (do it for the fluff), a happy pair of Irmandinhos and the ever-present Warcor (who stands ready to run into your opponent's minefields lol). And course - you've got Assault Pack Number 2 who can effectively fill the same role as Assault Pack Number One (because Assaults Packs on the hunt generally don't live long enough to spend 4-5 orders). Group 2 can do it all, it's got utility, Impetuous Smoke, various time-wasters and it can still send an Assault Pack careening down a flank to do something impolite.

The way the Vet/Spet HMGs and the Assault Packs complement each other is the strength of the list and in my view, the real strength of TAK. The Vet and Spet HMGs are bullies, they like to take and easily win the easy fights, but they rightfully should shy away from taking on the best shooters in the opponent's army. The Vet has more leeway than the Spets to be a macho man with his NWI and 5-man link bonuses, but even then - much better to take on the easy fights than risk your big guns on a dice roll. Why bother - what's the upside? Instead, send in your 6-6 camo-ed Super-jumping missiles (of which you have two) to rip apart that Sphinx, Swiss or suppressive-state Ryuken-9 (all models that punish opponents for shooting at them with big visual mods) in a brutal melee in which those expensive or highly annoying shooters are woefully unprepared to deal with. That's how you win board control. Big guns to deal with the little stuff, and big dogs to deal with the big stuff.

In my view, the big 'trap' of TAK is over-investing in Ambush Camo/shell games at the expense of big guns. Camo's a great way to stay safe. But dead enemy models don't shoot back. Moreover, Ambush Camo has a very short shelf-life - you don't "want" to move first because that kills the decoy - so what ends up happening is that a savvy opponent will just move up into his own midfield and play his own game, ignoring your multiple camo tokens knowing that by moving to engage him in your turn, nearly half of those camo tokens will just evaporate into thin air. Also, by over-investing in camo skirmishers who struggle at range, you gimp yourself on boards with sparse terrain (a weakness with Vanilla Ariadna too).

Bottom line - I stand by my previous posts about TAK. It's by far the strongest sectorial in Ariadna (even with the MI-buff for USARF) and by virtue of efficiency and it's unique set of advantages (Vet Link, K-9 Antipode, 2x Assault Packs) I'd call it stronger than Ariadna. TAK's certainly an Ariadna-killer with its plethora of camo-ed sensor platforms and maliciously powerful and efficient HMGs.

As a reflective aside - I'm in two minds about TAK. From a purely dice-rolling gaming perspective, the list is strong. But it's almost too strong. It's solutions are too cookie-cutter - shoot little things with big guns who either start points-efficient (Spets) or can be buffed to the stratosphere on the cheap (Vet); and eat big things with Assault Packs. I'm certainly not saying that TAK hurts the longevity of the game, if anything releases like this only improve the discourse and vibe between gaming groups and players (looking forward to unboxing my own Coldfront). But new army releases like TAK that instantly stand as first amongst equals - I don't know - I guess we'll see.

Tldr; TAK, it's good. Almost too good. Time will tell.

That is my first shot at a list based on what I have with little proxy. I'm still not a huge dog fan but will probably come around (have Strelok K9 from preorder on the way). Seems to me that the basic Vet HMG in a Kaz link will be the base of almost all my lists. Just too good not to use!

Hell, you should be singing the Russian national anthem as they march down the field. Or at least playing it.

Beer is for before fight, to cure hangover, vodka is for after fight! Because shooting with hangover is awful.

(on a more serious note, do the Russians make any beer good enough to export to the US?)

    Dear lord...

Yup, will be playing TAK in Ariadna. Where'd I bury my WW2 Russian paint sets?

If and when a Beyond box drops for Coldfront... I might consider grabbing it for unleashing the inner S.T.A.L.K.E.R. within.

That does depend on the Beyond boxes contents, though.

    Two Frontoviks and Plushenko? Interesting.
Now if only I knew the Aleph side of the contents and remembered what was inside the main box, I could try making an informed decision. XD

That's a Strelok with T2 marksman rifle not a second Frontovik. Label is wrong

Thought there was something odd: no Beyond boxes so far had any cases of two profiles from the same unit, so something was kinda fishy.

    Frontovik, Strelok, and Vassily?

    Cool.

Though it is a little surprising to see a Beyond pack with a named character.
