Killing an Antipode in melee? I expect no less from my 6-point troops, especially when a friendly trooper is giving +1B. Getting shot in the face by a Vet Kazak's T2 Rifle? I'm sure all 14-point troops can manage that :stuck_out_tongue:
They did work tactically, but often a unit doesn't end up using their full kit and that's fine. I've yet to see the full potential of these troopers.

lol so 1 other. Maybe I should have said regular order troop. Right now I feel that that if i'm going to be spending points on a trooper around those points, he's worth spending little more on compared to a Zhanshi or Celestial. Though I would shoot for a Weibing if I can.

Sure! Krakots are 14 points and can take on Antipodes favourably!
Antipodes are CC 20 with PH 15, that's not all that great, but you don't want to be ganged up by them. Solo they're certainly not the worst thing for several of Yu Jing non-CC units to take out and Bounty Hunters actually have an upper hand since they're not immune to Para.

I dunno if I prefer Diggers over Krakots, though. Krakots do things for Yu Jing simply by being veterans. As a Chain-Rifle turret, though, I guess Digger is better, but that's not quite the thing I usually look for.

And it's still irritating to me that they are both not actual Yu Jing. I want HI Shaolin dammit! Essentially a Domaru. Even if it's stupid ARM3+NWI. Of course knowing CB they'd make them not as good and more expensive than Domaru. :rage:

I think the squeeze there is that they've already made Teutons, which are nearly carbon copies of Tankos, and that pressures the design space for impetuous low cost heavy infantry - and never mind the supposed faction identity. Conceptually we've also got Hulang.

To be honest, I'd rather see an evolution on Liang Kai. (I'd also like to see fewer BS Attack Shock and fewer Shock Immune, I promise I've been good this year, Santa!)

What's a Hulang lol? I've found Hulang can only win the fight with Shikami on who sucks more.

In this case "Hulang" is a unit that is the brain child of a Shaolin commander. They're the Shaolin in Heavy Armour even if they aren't Shaolin.

In other cases I suggest you try them some more. They're in the magic points spot where a HI starts behaving like Reverend Moiras and other one-wound-with-ODD. It's basically the huge number of DTW at fault.

No. Just because the commander is formerly Shaolin, doesn't make them. It literally takes many years to be come a full Shaolin. I'm taking IRL though. IRC the commander simply found troops and thugs willing to fight in close quarters. Sure he trained them but not nearly to Shaolin level. They have less MA, Not Religious, less WIP, and even though in heavy arm, less PH.

I have tried them, both in IA and Dashat. I had some luck once with one in a core team. Every time I've taken them, they've gotten destroyed before I could do anything meaningful.

The thing with the Hulang is that you have to accept that they're a gunfighter and tech solution first, the CC is for outlier situations. You don't put them in a list with the expectation of stabbing something.

They are very rare to make my lists at 300, there's not enough room for luxuries given how many things you have to cram into lists before them. They're more reasonable at 400 and they're a decent option to spend left over points as an upgrade.

It's a story squeeze. The commander didn't get entirely what he wanted and instead got a compromise with putting Thugs through practical training. I'm just arguing that the room for actual Shaolin HI is fairly narrow.

Everytime I've taken them they've been destroyed as well, but they've been real bullet magnets eating loads of orders. Haven't played enough with them to say whether they've been worth the points over a filler Zuyong (mostly used the FTO versions), but certainly didn't get the impression that they're obviously overpriced like some units have given (e.g. Sin-Eaters really shouldn't be that expensive)

This is a little meme list that I like to run for 16" deployment and no Exlusion zone missions. Between all the mines, bodies, repeaters and koala Hulang is quite safe there. I had some succes with spec fire grenade on obvious prone LT on a roof that would be a nightmare to get onto. He slashed a TAG in a half once. Been a real pain in suppression covered by koala. But my meta isn't hacking heavy. I'm the hacking guy most of the time with 2-3 hackers and 2 dep reps from Guilang and Krit plus Guided bot.

I have treated him as a gun fighter but he's has yet to actually gun anything down. He's been shot full of holes by Khawa MSV2 Mk2, cut into pieces by Chimera and pups, and I can't remember what else. He actually did kill a couple of Riot Grrls when I used him a core fireteam. Oh yeah, he was immobilized by an E/Mauler once and never got out. BTW I hate how Crazy Koalas and Madtraps work now. I haven't been able to get out a second of them yet in N4.

Sadly 400pts is not a thing in my area right now.

The thing is, I can do now almost the same as him with a Beast Hunter for a third of the price. Sure he's not a specialist but the Hulang is a bare minimum specialist himself. So far I don't think I've ever been able to use him to hit a button. I had the opportunity to use him for a secret one due to being Veteran HI but he was killed before he could do it.

That kinda proves my point. NOT Shaolin.

Room where? In the whole game or in YJ? I see plenty of room. Especially in White Banner, where they should be a thing. I don't understand your reasoning. That's what sounds narrow to me.

    See above.

I was pretty excited today. I took down a Jotum with efforts of Beasthunter, Liberto, and Kanren. I actually dodged into CC with Liberto and somehow was able to keep beating him on CC rolls until took a hit, went dogged and finally died at the end. But this made it possible for my Kanren to dodge closer and closer. The Beasthunter then attacked into CC. Didn't cause any wounds but tied it up. Then came in Kanren to monofilament the Jotum! Lots of fun!
