After a few months of learning the game and getting to enjoy the sexiest sectorial in Infinity, I've started to settle on a list that achieves the requirements for most missions. Steel Phalanx - Full Force ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 1 ACHILLES Spitfire, Nanopulser / Pistol, EXP CC Weapon. (2.5 | 75) PENTHESILEA Combi Rifle, Contender, Nanopulser / Pistol, Monofilament CCW. (0 | 41) PHOENIX Heavy Rocket Launcher, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Heavy Pistol, DA CCW. (2 | 40) MACHAON Lieutenant Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Eclipse Grenades / Pistol, DA CCW. (0.5 | 38) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16) THRASYMEDES (Fireteam: Enomotarchos) Submachine gun, Light Rocket Launcher, Nanopulser, Stun Grenades / Pistol, Shock CCW. (0.5 | 30) THORAKITES (360º Visor) Submachine gun, Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) THORAKITES (360º Visor) Submachine gun, Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) EKDROMOS Chain Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 20) 5.5 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army With Achilles being the biggest and baddest Greek, I've found it hard to not build a list around him. Which is what this list ultimately does. It also includes my favorite Enomotarchos fireteam composition with Phoenix, Machaon, and 2 CR Myrms. In most games they see little to no action with Achilles achieving most of the bloodshed. Penny is a contested model and seems to have the community divided. But I've found her to always do extremely well despite her drawbacks. Her mov being 8-6 is just so useful and she can quickly be behind enemy lines mowing down hordes of cheerleaders. The 3 man Eno link of Thorakites and Thrasymedes is probably the weakest part of this list while still performing a vital role of cheap orders and some good ARO options with Thrasymedes herself. In some scenarios her being a Specialist Operative has also been useful when Machaon can't get to where he needs to be. The little bit of spice that this list includes is the CR/NP Ekdromos that tends to surprise most opponents. He'll often trade for 1-2 opposing fireteam members and it's always a trade I'm happy to do. The big downside of this list? A severe lack of specialists. It tends to hope that opponents are too busy dealing with Achilles and Penny to not take notice of the Myrmidon Eno Link gathering objectives. So far this has served me well, however I'm sure there's a more specialist heavy list I could use for when the need arises.
Yeah, dude, you're trying to do too much with that list in limited insertion. It's inflexible and extremely brittle. There's no engineer, no hacker, and Penti doesn't add anything that Achilles can't do himself. I'm not talking about throwing in those specialists for button pushing, either. You've got Machaon. He's good enough to do what needs to be done. But what happens if Achilles runs afoul of a jammer? Or has to headbutt his way through a repeater field? Or the two fireteams get decimated and he's left with less than four orders to Rambo? The man's good but without his backup dancers he's just a BS 15 ODD/Mimetism Spitfire with B1. That's hardly much of threat, so any Achilles list needs to support him. I'd drop the Ekdromoi. AD in limited insertion is generally a terrible idea. You start an order down and the unit is the very definition of disposable, and without spare bodies to absorb the order loss even taking two to three of your opponent's still counts as an uneven trade. Next I'd get rid of Penti. There's not enough orders in the list to power two primary attack pieces and she doesn't add anything but mobility. I went ahead and attached an Achilles list that works for me. I hope it helps. His Glorious Hair--Optimized ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 8 ACHILLES Lieutenant Spitfire, Nanopulser / Pistol, EXP CC Weapon. I don't like to play Achilles, not because he is bad, he is really good but i have some issues with the mythological Figure... XD. Therefore my Go To list is usually two enomotarchos FT, one of Myrmidons, usually Machaon, Phoenix and two Myrmidons, sometimes I change Phoenix for Eudoros or Ajax if I want the SWC somewhere else: And one of Thorakites, either Thrasymedes, with an HMG, FO and Submachine gun Thorakitai or Alke with a Feuerbach, Engineer and FO Thorakitai. then depending on the mission I add 1 or two nedrods and the second group with troops that could work. For LI lists the list building thought process changes a bit but nevertheless here is an example... SP V01 ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 10 NETROD Electric Pulse. (0 | 4) THRASYMEDES (Fireteam: Enomotarchos) Submachine gun, Light Rocket Launcher, Nanopulser, Stun Grenades / Pistol, Shock CCW. (0.5 | 30) THORAKITES HMG, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 22) THORAKITES (Forward Observer, 360º Visor) Submachine gun, Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 13) THORAKITES (Forward Observer, 360º Visor) Submachine gun, Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 13) PHOENIX Heavy Rocket Launcher, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Heavy Pistol, DA CCW. (2 | 40) MACHAON Lieutenant Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Eclipse Grenades / Pistol, DA CCW. (0.5 | 38) MYRMIDON Hacker (Assault Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0.5 | 31) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16) DACTYL Engineer Combi Rifle, Flammenspeer, D-Charges / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (0.5 | 24) YUDBOT Electric Pulse. (0 | 3) GROUP 2 4 1 WARCOR (360º Visor) Flash Pulse / Stun Pistol, Knife. (0 | 3) LAMEDH Rebot Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) LAMEDH Rebot Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) SCYLLA Hacker (Killer Hacking Device UPGRADE: Maestro) Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser + 1 Devabot Charybdis / Pistol, E/M CC Weapon. (0.5 | 27) DEVABOT CHARYBDIS Heavy Flamethrower / Electric Pulse. (7) EKDROMOS Chain Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 20) 6 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army
What is the problem with his mythological figure?! About my take on SP: Group 1 Netrod x2 Lamedh x 2 2 thorakites smg/chain rifle aka mines with legs (FO if points avaiable or not missionof killing specialists) Machaon Phoenix Eudoros/Myrm spitfire Myrm chain rifle aka best deactivator of mines Group 2 Scylla KHD with two bots Thrasymedes Thora feuerbach/hmg Thora FO Thora paramedic Unlinked thorakites and Scylla's bots protect the myrm link in case of going second. Thorakites FT controls mid field, while lamedh bots controls the sides. Myrm FT breaks havoc nearly in all distances
He is a dick, a cry baby that abandon his fellow warriors when they need him. Hector's killer, and not only that, he defiles the body of this honorable opponent because he killed his friend/lover in a fair fight (hey Hector was defending his city to begin with). A beast that can't hold his urges (raping the dead Penthesilea, yeah it was supposed to be a curse, but Achilles was not exactly known for his self control to begin with) Well, greeks "heroes" are not what we would call heroes now, and definitely not the "chiavalry hero" we may have in mind. In their meaning, it was more "powerful warriors" than "dudes who act out of bravery and courage". So Achilles was indeed a hero, but not exactly a likable hero, in my opinion at least. Well he is not the only character i don't like in Illiad (Ajax - not the great Ajax we can field in Infinity, but Ajax the lesser, the one who raped Cassandra in Athena's temple, or Agammemnon, and probably several others i don't really remember)
I totally get what you're saying. However Limited Insertion is a personal preference of play style for me. I do really enjoy it and lists seem to be a lot spicier when they're LI. And yeah I did note that the lack of specialists is the biggest issue with the list. I do have a similar one that drops the Ekdromos to make room for a full Thorakite Eno with access to an engineer and gains access to a CoC Myrm. I don't own Scylla so I often opt out of the hacking route in games overall. Penny gets so much... not hate but strong dislike. What she adds for me is some fear in my opponents. We play in South Africa and my shop's just recently started to play (a few months) - so there's no real meta yet so lists like these can get you there.
Yeah mythologically speaking, Achilles is absolutely awful. Infinity speaking, I love that sexy beast.
I really like LI in SP, now even more after playing with 15-17 orders in OSS for some time, maybe it's harder or a handicap but i find more enjoyment when I play LI lists. Have fun with the troops and style you like, theres nothing wrong with that in any game. I usually find myself making lists to play a profile or troop i like (because of profile, fluff or just the mini) regardless of if its "good" or if its something else "better" but when playing in a tournament i also go for that min max approach, both thoughts of play are valid. For example, for a LI list i like to play Hector and Diomedes sometimes but right now, with the release of Hippolyta i made a list (although the idea was just for fun) using all the female characters of SP plus female troop models and found my self with quite a nice list to play with , maaaaybe even for a tournament, if the missions are decent for the list XD SP Women's Scourge ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 2 PENTHESILEA Combi Rifle, Contender, Nanopulser / Pistol, Monofilament CCW. I prefer running Achilles in vanilla, and when I do, I like running him with Patroclus for backup : Achilles Spitfire Lieutenant | Lieutenant, Nanopulser, Spitfire, Pistol / EXP CCW (75) Patroclus ODD Spitfire | ODD: Optical Disruptor, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades, Spitfire, Pistol / EXP CCW (57) Myrmidon Officer BSG Chain of Command | Chain of Command, Nanopulser, Boarding Shotgun, Eclipse Grenades, Pistol / AP CCW (35) Proxy Mk.2 Assault Hacker | Assault Hacking Device, Nanopulser, Boarding Shotgun, Pistol / Knife (21) Proxy Mk.1 Engineer | Engineer, Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Pistol, D-Charges / Knife (10) Yudbot Servant | Electric Pulse (3) Dakini Tacbot Paramedic | Paramedic, MediKit, Combi Rifle / Electric Pulse (15) Dakini Tacbot Paramedic | Paramedic, MediKit, Combi Rifle / Electric Pulse (15) Danavas Hacker Hacker Plus | Hacking Device Plus: UPGRADE: Maestro, Combi Rifle, Pitcher, Breaker Pistol / Knife (25) Daleth Rebot Combi | Combi Rifle / Electric Pulse (17) Lamedh Rebot Repeater | Flash Pulse / Electric Pulse (8) Lamedh Rebot Repeater | Flash Pulse / Electric Pulse (8) Proxy Mk.5 Observer | Forward Observer, Submachine Gun (2), E/M Grenades, Nanopulser, Pistol / Knife (10) A simple list. Machaon/danavas White Noise/Eclipse to allow Achilles and Patroclus to get within spitfire range. After that people tend to die like flies. The rest of the list are fast button pushers, that can get into positions and apply suppressive fire with a few coordinated orders.
You do know that you need to have an EVO for pat and achilles to duo in vanilla? Or are you just moving them up the board seperately? Probably the latter because of which achilles profile you use, but just to make sure..
They move separately, most often from different flanks. I see no gain from them forming a Fireteam. Patroclus is ‘just’ as formidable as Achilles himself, and I prefer the ODD option on both anyway - besides, I see more value in Achilles gaining an extra order from Impetuousness in T2, than the bonuses he gains from cover. He needs to kill, not to survive.
You actually can't Duo them in Vanilla even with the EVO. TeamPro doesn't give you access to sectorial options, just allows same unit Duos
He is a better gunfighter/ assault piece than either of them as he can trivially apply a -12, clear out mines and perimeter weapon holo echos, he is also unhackable unlike the other two. And unless you are playing looting and sabotaging you probably aren't bringing Ajax anyway.
Exactly this.. And also MOV 6-4 and that it would be sad to separate Achilles from his favorite boytoy.
Not exactly : Moreover, TeamPro allows the use of Fireteam: Duo in Generic Armies. Players can only apply this advantage to those units possessing an option with the Fireteam: Duo Special Skill on their Troop Profile. Creation of a Fireteam rules are applied as usual. However, every Fireteam: Duo in a Generic Army is automatically cancelled at the end of the Order this GADGET Program is cancelled.
Aleph (generic army) has two sectorials. OSS and Steel Phalanx. And you reference those for fireteam composition. I wonder, what you thought the point would be of TeamPro otherwise?
