Thanks. I got it from Adepticon and happened to find it as I was leaving the con (end of the con). It just happened to be a vendor on the way out. I love it. I've also used it for my Bushido figures. These are my first for Yu Jing.
I have a Roman themed roller. I need to look and see what other themes they have now. Maybe buy one for basing my Votann Kin?
I guess I'm starting Steel Phalanx now. I was given a set of the Black Wind figures (sans Beyond). I then got Dakini's and Deva for my ISs and had a lot of fun painting them. So I felt maybe it's time for some Aleph. I got the box with Acmon, Machaon, and a Makhai. then I HAD to gt Phoenix of course. My first of the SP is Acmon. the blue on his armor isn't as dark as I actually wanted at first but now I like it. There's many things i can still paint on him but for now he's table ready.
It's very stark can can easily see the difference in colors up close. But when it's further away the colors "blur" together and makes it look smoother.
Well there is a saying "Don't let perfection/perfectionism ruin your life" or "keep you from enjoying life." If my own miniatures came out like your above Aleph then I'd be a happy camper.
It's not that hard to get good with a few techniques. Each of them I got done in about two days. I like to use an airbrush to speed things up. All of my figures I used it to prime (dark grey), painted dark blue, zenithal (white ink), blue again thinned down. Saves a LOT of time and effort.
My second Deva is done. I think the color of hair is going be the same amongst the troops. So Deva is green, Asura will be blue, etc. My SP are more human like so they will be natural looking.
The beginning of my O12. I did these particular troops not just for my O12 but they are also my Stargrave team. Led by the heroic Dirk Starr! (Bronze) and his trusty sidekick Cyrll-7 (The engineer). I used the airbrush for dark grey primer, then whole thing in royal purple, then Model Air white grey, white ink from the top. After all that, an oil wash of black, red and blue. I unfortunately don't have purple oil paint.
I didn't realize that oil paints could work as a wash. Sounds like something I could try out for myself.
I've been liking oil washes. I use mineral spirits with them. Just a pea size of black oil paint and then a bit of the spirits. Due to the spirits it dries faster than people think. You then take a brush or makeup sponge or similar and wick off extra of it. It might look bad at first but after it dries a bit you then take a clean sponge with the spirits on it and rub off the top layers of the oil.
Haha, to infinity and beyond! Buzz Lightyear's catch phrase actually works very well for this game. Did you use contrast paint or wash?
I used Speedpaint for the green, purple is vallejo with a lot of glaze medium. Here's what I have planned for all of the bases and I'm very happy with it. Using home made decals. I should say work made since I printed it there lol.
