Gamma is clearly a signature mini for the faction, like the KoJ in Panoceania or the Bear in Kosmo. Feuerbach +1B and NWI makes him quite unique and useful and very balanced.
Anecdotal of course (but so is this whole thread pretty much) but O-12 is most popular army in a pretty big tourny in South Africa. https://www.facebook.com/groups/igcinfinity/permalink/5533552776668014/
I feel like thats because O-12 has options, toolboxes to change up your playstyle. Pano tends to play in only one way, brute force. The only thing I miss from Pano is the new Karhu. But then I just play the best "Pano" Sectorial, White Company, to have fun with that great unit. And while Pano has the Karhu, O-12 has the Gamma. What do you make of the changes made to Starmada, with linkable Epsilon and AVA 2 for them too? I really hope O-12 gets another sectorial because Starmada still feels meh. I want linkable Omega and Gamma. IMO, signature units for O-12 (units that stand out as faction unique and iconic) are Omegas, Gamma, Crushers, gang busters and team sirius. All great models. I especially love the Crushers and Gamma.
There is so much space for improvements in this faction. I hope upcoming profiles will be as faction-defining as Sirius/Gangbuster/Gamma/Crushers. And I don't know why, but after the bluecoat I'm craving for a sci-fi inspector "sin city" style called "blackcoat". Never too edgy
I don't know much about O-12. Didn't O-12 have an actual military force? I sort of remember something about them being overwhelmed on Paradiso. If anything, by this time period in the story, which is years after the first attacks by the Combined Army, they should have mustered a military force. Steel Phalanx was created to fight CA but I'm sure that wasn't the only thing. If so that's the height of stupidity. Unless they can create SP faster than you can bring in human troops. I can see an O-12 military maybe having the best troops from each faction. But in an O-12 version of them. YJ Heavies, Nomad hackers, Ariadna warbands, (I guess they already do with Varangians), PanO TAGs. etc. Unfortunately, when Carlos was asked about new sectorals at Adepticon this year he said they have no plans on making any new sectorals soon. He briefly mentioned the Khanate that they wanted to do years ago but that's about it.
O-12's army is SWORDFOR and it doesn't draw from any of its member nations for troops. O-12 isn't a simple UN in space but something very different.
What do you make of the changes made to Starmada? Now with linkable Epsilon and AVA 2 for them too. Does it really change how viable starmada is or do you still not like the sectorial?
What makes Starmada viable now to me is the cheap and very effective security core + all the haris around very good aggressive and support/button pusher pieces (Epsilon, Parvati, Hector, etc). I would need to test it, but at least Starmada is finally playable.
I'm not sure of anything they could add. They seem to have a lot of good stuff without stepping on the toes of other factions too much. Ok midfield. Plenty of Eng/Doc. Good to great hackers. Many good guns too.
Few ideas : - Lieutenant L2 without Strategos, Counterintelligence to synergize with many good NCO units. Just don't make it Daoying cheap level. This faction already has good lt, variety won't kill this advantage - FD camo marker: Camouflage (1 use) and no mimetism specialist- unit focused on special equipment such as visors or deployables (mines, repeaters..etc). Don't add lethality (no SMG or high burst AP), it's already done with gangbusters. - REM with unique capabilities ! O-12 has really good template defense (Bluecoats, Varangians, Raveneyes..etc). A nice REM could emphasize over this with Heavy RiotStopper / High burst Akrylat Canon (360 visor ?). Maybe some kind of robocop dude - a Native Warband : anything that can throw a smoke, some alternative to Varangian that give away lethality for PARA weaponry - more synchronized bots ! Sirius team, Lawkeepers, Raptors... These are all great units with bots, high presence of these are quite faction-defining IMO. I'd love to see a LI with low AVA able to bring another bot and do memes. - LightTAG. Something around 6-7 armor that is more on contact than long-range Zeta (Mk12 ? Spitfire ?). A bigger bronze that goes for breaching ennemy lines ? That being said, I'm not into real new capabilities, more into reinforcing existing ones.
I seriously wish I could pick a faction based on looks and then I wouldn't be struggling for the past four years trying to pick one lol. People say pick the one you like the look of and that is good advice but what happens when multiple factions have awesome looking ones and some cool color schemes? Lol
Easy: ignore the official color scheme and go for your own. That way you can just choose purely based on aesthetic look of the bare nude model.
That is pretty easy. Now onto the actual hard part, choosing the faction because not considering the color scheme at all there are still factions that (to me at least) have a wide range of badass looking models. Tunguska, O-12, Invincible Army, Steel Phalanx, OSSS, Shavastii, Hassassins and Corregidor.
I feel like O-12 has not yet established a proper niche - atm they are PanO but smoke and hacking, lacking faction-defining pieces that are not "I shoot good" Roadbot has the potential to shake things up, being a fairly unique piece. I'd also love to see an undercover cop-type of impersonation, with disruption tools (so E/M, glue, and stuff like this instead of classic lethal imp loadouts) generally O-12's design is "lean and efficient with minimal tricks" and that's sorta boring tbh also, just one sectorial, with a terrible reputation, doesn't help with faction popularity - I really hope they'll introduce a new sectorial this summer, despite saying that no new sectorials will be produced. O12 needs that
@Archaon1617 It´s quite off topic here, but at the end of day, it´s like all decisions in life: if you dont pick one, you pick non. I don´t think someone is in the position to pick you by the hand and tell you what to start with. If it helps, make a list which modells you like most and from which faction you like most of em and also their playstyle. To compare the miniatures all at once I highly recommend the Modell identifier sheets from the great @burlesford to have a good overview: And then... well...start purchusing the one you like best. And maybe, after a couple of miniatures you bought from Military order, there comes a new Corregidor starter pack and you start first with a little, then a bigger corregidorian force, then some Tunguskans and Finally Nomads as a whole, restart collecting MO, advance to neoterra, get some Devas for them and (since you have Aleph modells already) buy yourself into steelphallanx and OSS, and at the end you have 2 Kvissle shelves full with painted and magnetized miniatures and think about ordering a third one cause free space becomes tricky to find (experience fictitious)
