Speculative fire specifically allows you to target a point in the map rather than a specific model. As long as you target a point where you cover or touch the camo token with the template, you force that player to either reveal the token and dodge, or risk taking a wound if they fail their armor save. http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Speculative_Fire
You do, but if there's a nearby model you can place the template so as to catch a camo marker and reveal it.
Small nitpick: This could, potentially, be read as a "targetless" situation. For those who are new, remember that you must still have a valid target under the template in order to do this. Because troopers only have to "touch" the template in order to be "hit" by it, you could cover markers that are almost a template diameter away from the main target.
That's not quite accurate, from the link you provide it allows you to: If the user employs a BS Weapon with the Circular Impact Template Trait, this Skill allows him to place the center of the Circular Template somewhere other than over the target of the attack. However, the target must be inside the Area of Effect of the Circular Template. Because you can't target a Camo marker with attacks you can't lob grenades at them, unless there's another nearby model you can target instead and splash on to the Marker. Smoke grenades are an exception due to the targetless rule.
Also remember that you measure range to the nominal primary target of the speculative template, not the actual point of impact. :-)
So I didn't read all the posts here, but a basic run-down of how I build a Vanilla list: The Striker: You're going to want a powerful model to use the majority of your orders. Since orders are so scarce in CA, you'll rarely have the pool to support more than one or two main combat models/specialists, so something tough and hard-hitting is best. The EI Aspects are all great for this role, particularly since they have specialist options for even more order efficiency. Also efficient for order usage are AD troops, the Fraacta especially because she's got multiple W on her profile. ---Good Striker models: Charontid (Hacker or HMG), Anathematics (Plasma Rifle or Hacker), Umbra Samaritan, Ko Dali, Sogorat, Overdron. The Smoke + MSV Trick: Few combos in the game are as powerful as MSV2/3 + Smoke. Considering that we have one of the best MSV units besides the Aquila Guard (and several good options for MSV2) and one of the best Smoke-toting Warbands (Daturazi), it'd be a crying shame not to use them to your advantage. Most lists I'll take a Charontid and a secondary MSV in either. ---Standout MSV'ers: Maakrep HMG, Yaogat Spitfire, Charontid HMG, Ko Dali ---Smokers: Daturazi are really the best by such a wide margin that the Oznats don't even get a mention in Vanilla. The Tricksters: Since CA always plays down in orders, having tricky models or roadblocks to waste your opponents orders can help even that field. Infiltrating Camo models, Minelayers, TR Bots, and Impersonators abound in CA and all do a good job of delaying your opponent and helping to even the order discrepancy. Your tricksters should also include at least one way to counter enemy MSV's (White Noise or ---The Trickiest Tricksters: Shrouded Minelayer/FO, Malignos, Speculo Killer, Q-Drone, Rodoks, Unidrons (Dogged ARO's) and anything with a HD+ or Killer Hacking Device (for the Cybermask program). Order Monkeys: You knew it was coming. Ever list needs a few random mooks to feed orders into your specialists and strikers. There's only a few options in CA for such troops: Imetrons, Ikadrons, Unidrons, and R-Drones. These guys are the cheapest orders you can get. Honourable mention to Vanguards and Seed Soldiers, but if you're taking those, you should be asking yourself why you want to lose so badly. ---Least Useless Mooks: Imetrons get taking because they're so gosh-darn cheap. Ikadrons too are extremely cheap and also provide backfield protection with their Light Flamethrowers, decent ranged AROs with a WIP 13 Flash Pulse, and expand your repeater net for White Noise. Unidrons are solid because they can be taken as specialists and Plasma Carbines put out a surprising amount of hurt. Daturazi fit here too, since they're the same cost as any other standard Light Infantry. Dr. Worm: Yes, he gets his own entry. If you are not taking Med-Tech Obsidon Medchanoid with 1-2 Slave Drones, you're doing it wrong. He's a fast specialist who keeps your vital EI aspects and other striker modelsmod and running. And so using the above list building guide, here's a 300 point LI list for Vanilla CA Combined Army ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 1 CHARONTID Lieutenant (Multispectral Visor L3) HMG, Nanopulser / Heavy Pistol, Knife. I strongly disagree with the Sogarat being a strong attacker. At least not when compared to a Charontid or Overdron. I often use a sogarat as a backup body for my aspect and as a block wall to plonk down on a fire lane on suppressive fire, though.
Agree to disagree then. ARM 6, Automedkit, and the Lt profile for the free order make it pretty solid as an attacker in my books

I do agree that he is a strong backup body for when the aspect bites the dust. As I said, I often have one in my lists just for that (usually when I run an Anathematic). However, at BS13 with no modifiers he isn't as great as an HRMC overdron, and even gets outshined by a Q-drone if you give it assisted fire. So I usually save my sog to advance on later turns, if I use him at all other than locking down a lane in Suppressive fire. In MAF, on the other hand, I use the Sog in about 1/3 of my lists. Without the competition of Overdrons and aspects the Sog gets a lot more mileage.
My personal favoured back up body is always a specialist, generally kermit the frog, Bit or just a malignos/shrouded to get milage out of the WIP 16, if the back up dies then they die, the EI train just keeps on jumpin' and you're probably on the back foot anyway having lost your heavy hitter.
My votes for preferred vanilla units and what I tend to reach for a lot are: Charontid: Either version of HMG or Hacker, both are great for different reasons, I could write an entire post on these. Umbra Legate Hacker: Great all around mobile specialist, a bit fragile so he really rewards clever play, but an Umbra in the right place can be a real headache for people to deal with. Bit & Kiss: Obvious one here, they do a lot for their points and are a great Mnenomic target. Noctifer ML: Same reasons as Onyx. Speculo Killer: Terrifying to deal with, natural pair with Ko Dali. Can really cause some carnage early game if used well and the opponent HAS to take them into account even if you didn't bring one. Ko Dali: B5 MSV2 Ass Pistols, yes please. M-Drone: Great all around specialist, with TAK and S10, I find Sensor to be more important than ever, I always take these. Ikadron Batroids: No explanation needed on these? Rasyat: I quite like using these! they're a rare source of forward deploying Eclipse Grenades which are great for shutting out ARO troops and cluttering up the backline. In missions like Looting & Sabotage, I quite like these for slapping down the enemy objective. Sphinx: Same as Onyx, but CA has more varied troops to support it. Shrouded FO/Minelayer: Great forward skirmisher for the price. Gakis: I love these as camo hunters, just rush them near enemy camo troops and force the enemy to decamo or they just keep going. A double-move can often result in you ending up within explosion range of the target and dooming them. I usually try to take 2-3 in most lists, they're very easy to fit. Daturazi: I sometimes take one or two of these, great for just smoke throwers or whacking people if they can get there. I've had Daturazi tie up TAGs in melee and be a royal shit to deal with. Don't be afraid of smoke kebabing people over single target chain rifles. Krakots: Great for accompanying Dats, they're super good and aggressive troops, I kinda hate what they've kinda done to the game with their addition though that's a topic for a different thread. I've not had much of a chance to try Aida Swanson yet but I'm keen to get her on the table and try her out some. Hope this helps!
I've played CA for many years and I honestly have no idea what model you're referencing with this nickname.
Kerr Nau kinda rhymes with Kermit the Frog depending on how you pronounce it. I particularly say "Kero Agora" but that joke only makes sense to portuguese speakers.
