Slight issued with arm swapping. MR does have sword in scabbard and HRL has empty one. Some handle cutting and slight sculpting of the scabbard opening will be required. Other than that I also thing that they should have been swapped from the begining :)
Hard to tell until we have them, but the HRL and Multirifle arms look like they should swap easily. The arms on the Shang Ji hacker were pretty easy to swap onto my crane and the contact points make for easy assembly on the male HI, so hope we get more of the same. The thinner arms on the female Zuyong made them slice things up differently though.
Anyone have their box yet? Mine arrives next Monday, and a second box for conversions should arrive in a month or so. I’ve got a spare hacker, an extra Hsien HMG, and an extra Daofei HMG model, all of which are candidates for arm swapping or hand and weapon swaps. Right now my biggest question is whether the shotgun on the ML model is separate or modeled onto the hip directly. That pose is menacing AF. It’s really tempting to refit the one HMG model with a spitfire as a tribute to the OG shanger sculpt.
LSG is molded on to the HRL model, is sculpted with a strap over the shouler. I think it, alongside all the other little details, look fantastic. Arm swapping for the HRL and MR is easy, but the scabbards mess it up. The shapes of the scabbards between the two is actually different, so it might be a bit difficult to swap. I elected to assemble them in the default configuration because of this. HMG is the standard right arm attached to gun with a connection at the left wrist, swapping would be very difficult. I'm warming up to the HMG model a lot, I just really wish it also came with a scabbard too. The MR is IMO, the best model of the lot. The pose may be really simple here, but it really shows off the bulk and power of the frame. Just the way he leans back slightly really helps to fit that 'superior' feeling. Fitting, as this is the variant that will also see the least, if any, time on the table. I could not possibly care less about the tinbot model. Best box of HI troopers I've seen.
The gun is cradled in the inside of the elbow. So you'd have to cut off up to there. It would be considerably more difficult than a simple swap at the wrist.
Here are the parts minus the tinbot if you're interested. Swapping the scabbards would prove quite complicated.
Thanks! I think it might be easier to cut the pommel off the one and maybe move it to the other rather than the whole scabbard.
I was thinking the same. Though there's still part of the crossguard molded to the hip, so it would still be a lot of work. I will likely assemble them stock.
I tried a couple of things but decided eventually to just remove the scabbards altogether. Not a big fan of large swords on non cc specialists anyway. With some cutting and pinning I managed to put the HMG arms onto the MR body. The right arm from the MR body then fits almost perfectly on the HRL, replacing the sword arm. The third sculpt will rest in my bits box for now, since I'm not likely to use a MR loadout anyway, but I'll probably complete it once I've found a suitable right arm that doesn't carry a sword. I'll see if I can post pictures on Sunday for anyone who's interested.
Hm. Both my boxes are going to arrive on Monday instead of weeks apart, so I'll see what I can come up with and report back!
What the fuck? I think I'll just cut off the handle/guard and glue it to the other one. At least the arms look swappable. Or this.
I got one box early and did some test fitting, and I think I figured out what conversions I’ll be doing with the second box: 1 - Swap the left legs and right arms between the ML and MR models. Figure out a way to base the extra ML model that results so that having both feet on tiptoe doesn’t look weird. Maybe sculpt on tactical heels to guarantee that opponents can tell the wearer’s gender? (lol?) 2 - Cut off the guns from the left MR arm and a spare Red Veil Hsien left arm, just behind the gauntlet, and replace the Shang Ji MR hand and gauntlet with the Hsien HMG and gauntlet. The end result should be a nice HMG tribute to the classic Hsien I sacrifice to the conversion gods. 2(a) - It's worth noting that the Hsien gauntlet and gun swap by itself will get you the equivalent of the Busy Minds Shang Ji statuette design. I’m really not sure about the extra HMG model from the second box. Options include swapping the HMG for a 3d printed MR with a FO sensor gubbin, swapping the HMG for a Spitfire as a tribute to the classic Shanger sculpt, or maybe just selling it to someone who doesn’t want to buy the whole box for the HMG model… https://i.imgur.com/ixykhsX.jpg
Meanwhile I'm just gonna keep on using Gao as a Shang Ji-sus because Gao is shit and I'll never play him anyway. HRL model will come in handy though, been using that profile a fair bit lately to run a haris around with Tai.
2 1 TAI SHENG Breaker Combi Rifle, Chain-colt, Flash Pulse ( | TinBot: Firewall [-6]) / Heavy Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 39) SHÀNG JÍ (Tactical Awareness) Heavy Rocket Launcher, Light Shotgun / Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. (1.5 | 38) 1.5 SWC | 77 Points Pretty much these 2 + 1 Wildcard of your choice. I use it often as a first wave after the core link's Shang Ji or Haidao cracks the long range AROs open. The HRL profile is highly proficient at rangebands Shang Ji-sus is garbage at, the shotgun gives it a real ability to brawl in close if necessary and is pretty good at sweeping skirmishers and shit out without potentially over extending too many soft bodies that are easy to counter attack. I've been using Tai with him alot because she brings a Tinbot to the link and covers the one rangeband it's not so good at which is 8-16" with the Breaker Combi (plus she technically adds AP to the link in a pinch), and acts as a specialist if needed. You could easily swap Tai out for Krit or a TacAw Zuyong.
Interesting. I was expecting a WB haris of the following ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 3 2 SHÀNG JÍ (Tactical Awareness) Heavy Rocket Launcher, Light Shotgun / Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. (1.5 | 38) SHÀNG JÍ (Tactical Awareness) AP Heavy Machine Gun, Chain-colt ( | TinBot: Firewall [-6]) / Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. (1.5 | 49) YĚ MĀO (Hacker, Hacking Device) MULTI Rifle, Chain-colt ( ) / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0.5 | 31) 3.5 SWC | 118 Points Open in Infinity Army But the IA one offers a lot of options too.
I find it difficult to justify both Shang Ji in the one Haris as they have an overlap in rangebands for their primary gun and while the shotgun is useful, the Ye Mao is already covering that range band for them. I also place more value in having an Engineer in that link as it synergises a bit better with the three. That said I can't really see anything particularly wrong with building that Haris and it'll probably function perfectly fine. I think that's more personal preference that it doesn't conform to how I like to use the fire teams. I like to split the big pointmen up so it makes it harder for an opponent to get a perfect situation set up where they can cripple both at once or at least bog them down, at least for in the purposes of what I've been using this Haris for is a first wave to clear out the midfield once a breach is opened for them to exploit. It's beneficial to my strategy that my opponent gets bogged down trying to fight them in the following turn after which the Core fireteam counter attacks based on that.
I just noticed that the box uses the old Shang ji unit symbol. Guess they forgot that they changed it.
