So every time I make a list I start out saying alright I'm taking arslan this time and its almost like pulling teeth keeping him. I've used him before and it's not like hes awful but it's just so easy to drop him. Any reasons I might be overlooking other than cool factor on why we should be bringing the boss man?

I've been getting a lot of mileage out of him; the fact that he has V: NWI has come in handy several times, and a MULTI Rifle adds some useful options at short range.

I always feel like I have to have either him or saito in a list and saito always feels like he gets things done so I typically cut arslan for saito.

I don't think he does anything unique that would blow people away. He's just a solid (albeit, expensive) piece that's good at cleaning up the midfield/skirmishers. I think his biggest two selling points are the NWI and the fact that he brings a gun for nearly any scenario except long range or intuitive attacks.

I get what you're saying about pulling teeth though. DBS has a variety of solid pieces that do a lot of work and saito + Arslan is a lot of points tied up. I find Arslan works best with pathfinders to charge towards objectives from holes Arslan creates, but Saito can start next to the objective itself. I'd pick Arsan if going against Ariadna or Steel Phalanx. He has his place, but isn't for every list

I think it comes down to how much you value Fungazi, because you always can go Druze Lt. Plus Fungazi instead of Arslan, and if you save a couple more points (a Warcor) it's even possible to include 2 of them, which is a strong argument 3 regular Orders and 2 Flash pulses instead of one regular Order and a NWI Multirifle and a Irregular Flash pulse.
The flexibility he brings is also only not as much felt in the most flexible link team of the game, so I think what it comes down to with him is just liking of a character piece. He certainly isn't bad, but when it comes to minmaxing he kinda looses out a bit.

He is a great Lt in limited insertion or as a medium range killer in a Harris team to bodyguard a hacker for button pushing.

Actually he is pretty good as a Duo with a Hacker as well. Since he totally can hold his ground on his own, he and a Hacker kind work like a budget Haris.

For me, it's a scenario based choice.

Do you need your obvious Lt. to have a better chance to live if he's under threat? Then take Arslan if you can afford him. His BS, MSV-1, NWI and hyper-dynamics really help to keep him around.

He's also a durable datatracker in an army with only one option for a pseudo-multiple wound unit under 40 points.

It's really that simple, he shouldn't be in every list.

A little sad he has veteran lvl 1 and NWI instead of veteran lvl 2, just for thematic purpose. Does anyone know what the price bump would roughly be for that?

No idea on the cost, but since he's typically going to be in a link SSL2 is a little bit redundant. He already has skill and gear bloat to the point that he's a bit expensive for what he does so... yeah Vet2 could be cool, but he's probably more practical as is.

And he feels a bit impractical cost-wise anyway.

I kinda feel about him a lot like I feel about Saito... he's good for certain scenarios, but not an auto-include. Both are competent at what they do; but Saito is a glass cannon that hits a wall all too often, and Arslan is a durable guy who isn't quite durable enough for his cost.

I'd consider him for Decap & Hunting Party for sure, and any scenario with ZoOp where the DT needs to survive or dominate.

Agree'd on most points, but I actually tend to run him more as a solo piece primarily, with the option to fill in gaps in the core. DBS wants those 5 man links and I don't feel prudent dragging the link into the midfield. Yeah, he's sort of an awkward, unfocused unit. I like the idea of NWI multirifle + light shotgun fatality, but I don't know how to shed the bloat or pump him up into that "solid take" zone. He just has a lot going on

Definitely interesting about not putting him in the link. I've gone back and forth between making him the lt or a brawler. In the link it's nice when you have some crawler cheerleaders and the opponent doesnt know if he should go after them or arslan. I think I'm gonna try some games with him and just use either a hunzakut or peacemaker for midfield stuff. The smoke is nice but I'm originally a neoterra player so I'm used to having to shoot my way out the deployment zone lol.

This list was inspired by @jfunkd in the "mixing it up with DBS" thread. Kinda shows how I use him. I swapped three bashis for Arslan, so it depends how you rate the ability to keep your link team full, decoy LT, midfield capabilities, and single regular order vs 3 irregular parachutists with SMGs and Templates.

Kind of a funny experimental list that focuses on the overclock program to have a lot of ARO's. I like the Sierra in the first group for a fast HMG, but I'd probably switch its place for a pathfinder for a fast specialist, then drop it in as needed after the peacemaker stops making peace

To me Arslan acts as a counter attacker. If your opponent move up a heavy hitter, Arslan can pull out his Head from total Cover and can take out beefy units <16". I killed stuff with him like a Xeodron and a Su-Jian in 1-2 Orders (4 dices on 16s with AP DAM 14 is great against light TAGs and HIs).

I gave Arlan a shot today and he did his job. He did it well.

We were playing 'The Grid' (Saturation zone and Scenery Structures rules). I lost my Clipper and Multi-Sniper very early and had 5 man link of hospelier(?) knights mid table being a pain. Arlan with a 3 other Druze were able to just walk in and take out Joan of arc with her link with ease. Having MSV and anti-material made a HUGE difference to the game. My opponent got 3 objectives turn 1 to my 0.But I was able to kill 3 of his fireteam, including his Lt. From there there I was in great position. I almost missed the win because my Hunzakuts failed 5/6 of his FO rolls(max order from second battle group). Late turn 3 was able to move it from a tie to a win.

My list today was a bit of luck since we rolled the scenario randomly, but the fact he had MSV & an anti-material weapon really helped. If you look at the Druze/brawlers/clipper, all the antimaterial profiles are SWC expensive or disposable. It can be problematic when it comes to scenarios that use Scenery structure rules. You can use D-Charges, but its really not very order intensive. For me any scenario that requires anti-material, he's an auto-include.
