Wallace with bare legs: ARM 3 Varangians with full armor: ARM 2 Clearly the Varangians should take off their shin guards to give themselves a +1 ARM boost
So strange how a bleeding edge Lhost body stuffed full of cybernetic and biomechanical enhancements can be tougher than a regular dude...
... Should I have added an /s? I thought the /s was implied. Plus, this is Ariadna. The faction where Paracommandos have such prodigious, muscular arms that they can deflect bullets, giving them higher ARM than the Airborne Rangers. ARM values conflating to how much armor the actual model is wearing is kind of loosey-goosey anyways. I was just making a joke.
Wally's Lhost giving him improved durability is represented by NWI/Shock Immune. As far as the actual armour itself goes? Not so sure. Perhaps if he wore pants, he'd get ARM 6. I suppose synthetic Scottish balls can survive in a vacuum. For what it's worth (nothing at all, really), the real William Wallace would have worn full mail into combat. Kilts weren't actually a thing until around 300 years after Wallace's death.
I'll note that my Kosmoflot went 2-1 in our narrative tournament yesterday. Turns out Total Immunity/NWI/Shock Immune on the Volkalak Missile Launcher is pretty amazing in a Missile Launcher duel vs Noctifer Missile Lanchers (my opponent was NOT impressed by Total Immunity letting me shrug off his army's tricks.)
Okay, so while I've been running my Kosmoflot, I've been using proxies for a number of the models. I've painted up old Kazaks with orange vests to use as Irmandinhos and have been running 45th Highlanders as Varangians (I mean, it's basically the same profile!). But I've finally picked up more of the models I need to properly build out my Kosmo. I took advantage of some Black Friday sales to order from Toy Soldier Imports here in Australia as well as directly from CB and got 2 Monstruckers that I plan to use for Space Irmandinhos (and I'll hopefully be getting one more for Christmas). I also got a Soldiers of Fortune box and plan to use Valkyrie from that along with the Special Edition Valk I got awhile back to use for 2 of my 3 Varangians (I'm not really a fan of either of the existing Varangian sculpts). But this leaves me with a dilemma - what do I use for my 3rd Varangian? I've got a Shona Carano I picked up - I figure I could proxy her as a Varangian. Alternately I've got Gunnar Lundmark who's CERTAINLY not going to be seeing any play in my PanO armies, so maybe why not use him as a Varangian? What do folks think? What stylistically would go well with the 2 Valkyrie models to make a 3rd Varangian?
I also use the models of Valkyrie as Varangian Guards. I have 2 Valk Limited edition, 1 Valk from the infinity box of the soldiers of fortune and 1 from the aristeia box of the soldiers of fortune (plastic but amazing model)..
How does the Aristeia! Valkyrie scale to the other ones? It's a great sculpt, but I thought I remembered her being pretty huge.
The aristeia! Valkyrie is huge if you mean the plastic one and is unlikely useful for a Varangian guard proxy, which is a shame as it’s a lovely mini. The Valkyrie that @fari has used above is perfect as is the moon child mini (metal or plastic) from aristeia! I’ve also seen some conversions using Gunnar and the Varangian where the axe was swapped onto Gunnar. If anyone has bought the platinum Ed of tag raid you could also use van zant jumping as one…
Yeah, I've thought about swapping an axe head onto Gunnar's weapon, but the Van Zant idea is a great one. I may have to look into that. Cheers!
I use it, the Valkyrie is size 2 like the Varangian. The normal Valkyrie of soldiers of fortune haven't an axe but a shield and a gun. Only the Ariesteia Valkierie and the limited version one have the axe.
That’s cool, I just thought she’d be too big as though she’s size 2 in infinity, the aristeia! Mini from the soldiers of fortune plastic set would likely be size 5 in infinity due to how large she is. She’s bigger than the Boyg from svalarheima, she fills the 30mm base she’s on, lol. But if it works for you, that’s good.
Finally finished my Kosmoflot. Wallace is converted from Gunnar Lundmark. My Volkolak is a Tankhunter with a Wulver head. The Tankhunter’s head was donated to the Unknown Ranger, who was converted to be holding the shield from his back. Instead of using standard Irmandinhos, befitting a space force, I’m using Monstruckers instead. For Varangians, I’m using Valkyrie models and a converted Drakios. The Fat Yuan Yuan is hanging out with them for tomorrow’s tournament. Margot and Duroc are built per the box (beautiful models that they are!) I’ve got Thamyris to use for the Kosmo Warcor and a very old Uxia. Finally, my Bearpode is a 3D print a friend made for me and I’ve converted an old Chasseur to use as his handler.
