Mate and I are nearly ready for our first game and I was wondering about some of the ancillary stuff. How important are tokens, and should we be looking at any particular terrain for our first few matches?

In my opinion, the tokens are a MUST have for Infinity! And you are going to need a bunch.

Easiest way to get some tokens in the cheap is to go to this website, and print off what you need, and then grab the 1” round plastic sticker bubbles from Hobby Lobby or Michaels to put on top of them.

As for terrain... the more the better for Infinity versus other mini games you might have played.

Infinity requires a much more dense table set up than any other game I have played to be a good balanced experience.

For Terrain, I suggest 2-3 Infinity cardboard packs. One of the old (moto-tronica/Hefestos/Ariadna) and 1-2 of the new (either the lotus station or the incoming Kurage station), so you have both heights of buildings, 2-4 bridges, and a bunch of containers and boxes.

If you want "the maximun" ITS items, you need 9 consoles (S3 bases, or 40mm) and 2 beacons (S2 bases, or 25mm) too.

Tokens is just a tool for bookkeeping, but they’re very practical.

No probelm at all. In SP you can include sturdy (CoC Myrmidon Officer , Myrmidon Hacker, Machaon) or cheap (Thorakitai FO/Paramedic) specialists and a big gun (Alke, Eudoros, Phoenix) in 3/4-man fireteams. It's a very order-effective way to move-shoot with these fireteams because you can kill opposiong troopers and move your specialists upfield at the same time.
Not being able to field 5-man fireteams you don't get the +3 BS bonus but most of the time you do not need it, because your troopers are already very good (high BS, good weapons and ODD mostly) at winning firefights.
