So to prevent a niche exploit they just: - buffed a playstyle that was already dominant with repeater nets and pitchers by giving the hackers a lot more mobility - added quite a lot extra rolls as your repeater net hacker will be dodging more often than not I don't know if I'd call that an improvement, but to each their own. It seems it's always the same factions that get buffed
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the current way Dodging is worded will stand, I understand it to be an advantage while playing against Pitcher into GML strategy in the future... One of the important characteristics of the Guided strike approach used to be it's eventuality of success, since models being Spotlighted could do nothing to exit the Hacking Area until they were indeed already Targeted, but now with Dodge being a valid ARO against Hacking, the target of Spotlight has the option to forgo Reset in order to perform a PH roll to potentially Dodge out of the Repeater's range! On the same token, when a Pitcher is shot in the middle of group of troopers, the said soldiers will no longer meekly stand their ground and await for their inevatable death, but rather have the option scramble to exit the Hacking Area! Now all we need is to do is to play a bunch games to determine if this new mechanic adds the neccessary amount of inefficiency to the Pitcher into GML play to bring it back in line with most of the game's offensive strategies! At the same time, I don't foresee Hackers dodging courtesy of Hacking Area AROs to be a big problem in the future - for Hackers Dodging does carry the opportunity cost of forgoing Hacking, and I don't see most of the Hackers being able to put those extra moves into that good of a use anyway... There are obvious expections like Nahab KHD in RTF (but RTF's Repeater game is rather so-so) and Umbras in Onyx (my friend maining Onyx can't sit for weeks after what the 2.0 did to Bioimmunity, so we can let him have this one!), but I doubt they are going to be prevalent/impactful enough to warrant much thought. If this change to Dodging Hackers shafts anyone, I believe it to be Ariadna/Kosmoflot (since they're the ones giving up most uncontested Hacks to their Opponents), so this change might even have a sligh impact on the efficacy of the dreaded Bearpodes... But so far all this is just me theorizing, let's see how this all works out! Have a great day everyone!
This still doesn't create an ARO opportunity unless the Pitcher user made a mistake with LOFs that they weren't allowed to take back.
I meant the troopers get to Dodge away once an enemy Hacker targets one of them with a Spotlight, sorry I wasn't clear enough on what I was alluding to in the first place! :)
Well yes. The trooper that is targeted gets to Dodge. The others still get to stand there and wonder what the Linksys device does.
@Benkei I am sorry but I do not see it, there is a select few of the hackers who could potentially and circumstantially benefit from such dodge move, though I still think it should be with -3, the hacking disruption offered by decoupling dodge is huge and I would not trade it back. A TAG for example could attempt to dodge inside its own sides hacking bubble o outside its enemies once assaulted with Total control as mentioned the targets of spotlight can attempt to dodge out of other units near them. A question I read here iirc a tactic of dodging in template range of the enemy repeater, from what I understood, I may understood it wrong that was to prevent the missile bot firing, I cannot find a way that a repeater who is not a trooper can prevent the template from been placed, is there something I am missing?
@psychoticstorm Attacks are only cancelled by friendly troopers and since deployables aren't troopers the rules don't say what happens. But this is irrelevant. Everyone plays so that hits are also cancelled by deployables, because game breaks if it's allowed because then you would start shooting your own deployables with burst template weapons to hit nearby enemy troopers.
That is interesting. I have to say it is something I have not encountered so I asked around the past couple of days and I got a variance of answers, including that while you cannot attack your own deployables if they get clipped in a blast they are valid targets. I think it is something that needs official clarification if many groups play it in different ways. Personally I like that solution as it gives a clever way out of guided missiles and makes placing pitchers needing more thinking.
Based on the way ally, enemy, hostile and neutral are defined, repeaters only work if they are allies. And because they're allies, they cancel templates.
The problem is they are not "Troopers". Edit just to be clear I am not disagreeing against it just pointing out what the issue is.
They are not "Troopers" until they interact with a rule that requires them to be then they are. For example you can Isolate a Repeater this has been confirmed by IJW but the Isolated State only applies to Troopers. See the problem?
Because they have cut people who give even constructive criticism out of the rules pipeline in favor of a hugbox.
