Fittest != strongest. "Fittest" means "adapted to particular conditions". Breeding like crazy is a form of adaptation to counteract negative effects of the environment, which in turn means you can sustain it and therefore are probably adapted to the rest of the challenges of your niche. On a side note, does new forum not distinguish between posts that existed at the time of your last visit and posts you've actually loaded? Shame.
