Hello fellow brutal overseers! I'm absolutely over the moon about the new fireteam update; it gave CB an opportunity to refresh my beloved Onyx, and what a refresh it is! Here's a breakdown of eveything I've noticed so far: - Nexus got an NCO Engineer profile for 22pts! Amazing news for the 'Unidron Fireteam', whose links can include Nexus Ops (+Kerr Nau) and not lose their pure bonus. Unidron link now has some serious legs to it! Always been jealous of the Dakini team's ability to bring an engineer along for the ride, and ours gets NCO into the bargain. Gamechanger. - Kurgats have been added, and can join an 'Onyx Fireteam' core or haris. Big news because that's right, we get a core linked portable autocannon. Woop! - Maakrep can join the same 'Onyx fireteam', along with Suryats and Umbras of both stripes. Looks like that team will max out at +1BS though, due to its mixed nature. - Rodoks took a hit and max out as a haris now. They also lost the HMG profile in favour of a 28pt Spitfire option, which is a big nerf imo, as the HMG profile was a linchpin in the rodok team... - BUT they gained a great 23pt SMG profile with the strategic deployment skill. An interesting tactical haris has opened up for us. - Nourkias can now join a Xeodron haris without a samaritan chaparone. He's a straight-up wildcard now. - Nexus can now wildcard into any fireteam, and with the new engineer profiel, expect to see Xeo + Samaritan + Nexus NCO engineer fireteams running about the place. Hope this rundown is of use to you, and helps illustrate the new Onyx options that are available to us.
Couple of interesting combos: - 2x (2x Xeodron+Nexus) Haris allowed - Overdron duos allowed -> Albedo for wildcards, or two turns of Albedo for a duo of Overdrons. - Rodok fireteams give strategic deployment to wildcards - Suryat HRL core is a bonkers fireteam. Tinbots for everyone.
Is this finally the time to play that Maakrep mini which is half-painted on a shelf for years? If yes, how?
Onyx seems really interesting now. I wouldn't get super hung up on the Unidron/engineer core. It is nice, but if we use dogged we cannot repair. I like the idea of a Suryat/Kurgat/Umbra paintrain, trading full coherency for an in-team engineer and an escort for an insane CC model, or the CC model running escort for a BS (14) HMG HI on their half of the table. Also, Ko Dali + Rodok (stratdep) + Nourkias starts 8" up the table with a solid gunfighter and random Rodok as escorts for mr stabbystab. Yikes (Edit: Apparantly not, that was a holdover rule)
The Unidron also has two levels of unconscious which is wild for an aro piece in particular. I love to send them dogged sometimes, but it's an option. Really this makes Dr Worm less of a forced-inclusion to your list and I love that. Plus the nexus is on hand, right there, for repairs ( or come to think of it, burny templates & d-charges!). Finally, oponents get scared of assisted fire plasma snipers pretty quick and try to hack them instead. Engineer is clutch in that situation. NCO in a core is golden too. So yeah, I guess I am super hung up on him - leave me up here! :D Unidron core with a fancy dan haris is looking very nice now.
It's still an expensive model so I'd try and keep it cheap with a bsg kurgat and a specop nexus for 72pts, with a choice of drop bears or ap mines. Msv hmg backed by deployables, template and two specialists. Added bonus, the nexus is part of your lt shell game ... on first blush, something like this looks very viable for a Maakrep list:
The wording on Strat Dep is really odd (at least, in English?). Are we 100% that Ko Dali's FD will boost the Strat Dep to 8? I want it to be true but am not 100% that's the correct interpretation. Any input clarifying appreciated!
Not rules as written, no "If a scenario or tournament rule provides the Forward Deployment (+4") Special Skill to any member of the Fireteam, the owner of Strategic Deployment and the rest of the Fireteam can be deployed as if they have the Forward Deployment (+8") Special Skill." Neither a scenario or tournament rule is the source of the FD +4". That's referring to something like the Bravery rule from previous ITS seasons.
Yeah that's where my head was at too - given no current scenario or tournament rules currently exist that do such a thing (to my knowledge), I wonder why it had not been cleaned up or removed, or at least clarified. Similarly "scenario" and "tournament" not being capitalized seemed to be at odds with CB's normal formatting of such things. Though I did have a geez at the Spanish and it seems to be exactly the same, so not a translation issue :P Appreciate your insight - Bravery is probably the hold-over relevance.
Thats lame and convoluted. The team is likely still worth looking at but maybe Ko Dali should be a Rodok spitifre for more firepower.
Wow I'm finally looking at Onyx changes. Some great ones for sure. I think for me a big one is Overdron duo with Nexus ENG. After using Guijia with Krit Kokram I've found it's a great combo. If the TAG gets hacked you have the ENG right there to fix that.
Ko Dali is a pretty good profile but her FTO profile is kitted for fighting shit that hangs around mines and frequently hides DTWs under camo markers. As a 1W ARM2 model she does not like getting hit by templates period. Otherwise MSV2, Mimetism, BS14, and a couple of good guns she's a solid addition to a link it's just a shame her kit gets kinda fucked over by an incoherent design.
Agreed, and that goes double for the xeodron haris! I think K1, Engineer Nexus and Breaker Samaritan is a steal for 112pts, and suddenly it's a haris that can do over half the classifieds. (ie net undermine, capture, kidnapping, sabotage, retroengineering, test run, nanoespionage, rescue, predator, in extremis and extreme prejudice) Just as importantly it brings the cost of the haris down to a level where you can still afford a Unidron core, Edrone and KHD Nourk. I think finally Onyx have some legs as a tag-oriented sectorial.
I've found that it's not too difficult to pick up an extra wound from an unconscious body or to dodge 4" into CC and bully a low cc infiltration. Until she's got that extra wound I'd agree though, she needs to be much more careful.
Agreed! That is a good team. Here's my Tohaa-like force with 2 Haris and 1 3-man core. ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 10 1 XEODRON K1 Marksman Rifle, Blitzen / Heavy Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. Super that make 3 out of 4 minis from the Rodok box useless or at least downgrade them to mere proxys. Not nice. Cool double shotgun pose now for nothing.
