Barring a glorified airsoft weapon like @colbrook describes, I did come up with a way for a weapon to have a magazine shaped like that. Instead of having the bolt push a round into the chamber at the end of the barrel, the bolt is the chamber (basically, rounds are ass-backwards, picture a modern casing with the bullet where the primer is and vice-versa). I still hate the design, though.
