I have felt the some of the same pains, US feels lacking in some areas. I am tempted to try the same new army suggestion, but I promised myself I would paint up the rest of my models first.

What list have you been playing with Cry?

Something along these lines mostly. Marauder core with 2 rocket bikes and 2-4 Foxtrots are the same in most lists I have run. The Foxtrot weapon mix based on what I expect the mission to be. Sometimes Dozer drops and take Van Zant instead of or even sometimes with the Airborne Ranger. I have one Hardcase that shows up when I run lots of Foxtrots and a Blackjack I like in either version.

Every time I try a Grunt core or Minutemen core they seem to fail so I stopped doing that.

Had fun with a pair of 3 man links using Minutemen as core an Marauder haris with Van Zant and the UK Ranger for LI missions but it still suffers from the whole they have 8 troopers who are better than mine plus a couple cheerleaders.

Fully painted I have the entire range with the exception of a Devil Dog and Desperadoes.

List here is tossed together in a couple seconds based on my core units. I have never actually used this list but it shares elements with how I normally design them.

Have you tried smoking the mid field with the bikes, then coordinating move+drop mines with all of the Foxtrots? It can really shut down the midfield. You can then do another coordinate to recamo them all. It's why I usually have 4 Foxtrots in nearly every USAr list.

I don't believe you can coordinate place multiple mines anymore, can you? Since Coordinated Order was changed and FAQ'd to make the "same target" clause apply even to targetless attacks such as smoke...

Yes, you can. Dropping mines doesn't require a target. They are just placed in base contact.
    • In the Active Turn, the trooper can deploy the Camouflage Marker in base contact or, if he moved, in base contact with any part of his route. In the Reactive Turn, the trooper must deploy the Camouflage Marker in base contact.
You can't mix mine types though.

We can discuss it in a different thread if you want. Don't want to junk up this one.

You know I think you're right, I just got it in my head that the FAQ about smoke applied more widely than it was phrased.

Blackjack Ap hmg or t2 sniper can kill stuff and survive with armor 8 in cover.... Ariadna generally is squishy but USARF has the armor. Devil dog is great for cheerleader abuser or a airborne ranger... or 4.

It is a crazy list but you can field 4 foxtrots and 3 hard cases giving you 10 camo tokens in your half the board. Try hiding during active turn from that. Give em all shot guns or fo. He’ll make one you lt so he can find it. Throw in some infiltration grunts for more fun.

If that isn’t crazy enough run the “sons of ariadna” (tm) with 6 desperados and 4 Mavericks. No way to hid from that if they survive running across the board.

In infinity, all armies are competitive. It just might not fit you play style but USARF is a good sectorial

Yes you can coordinate orde drop mines as mines do not require a target. You are deploying equipment and they don’t go down til the end of the order during resolution.

    infiltrating grunts with HFT
Hardcases with lightshotguns (not great but can work)
    mines
outrange suppression with something like Blackjack.
    DTW.

i havent had much issue with Steel phalanx if i can get my smoke down without an agema wrecking my day. so if there is agema kill them early and then smoke up the field and dtw fools at close range, if he is up high and you cant get to him then just smoke and ignore or if you have the orders smoke and drop mines at his feet by climbing a foxtrot to his position.

The latter options are a ton of orders though, so I guess that's the entire point of that guy sitting there.

It should be the point of any ARO piece - force you to spend your orders on a non-optimal way. Anything that gets killed/wounded in ARO is a bonus.

That's kinda what I'm saying though. If you really need to climb there with a model that is not exactly good at it to remove the piece, you're probably doing exactly what opponent wants you to do, and that's not exactly same level of playing into his hands as if it was spending 1/2 worth of movement to remove some low-tier sandbag unit.

Depends on where the ARO peice is, etc. but using foxtrot or hard case isn’t as many orders as you are halfway up the board. Airborne or van zant is less order intensive to take em out.

Had another game this time against Onyx. Was all going great until a TO hacker showed up on an objective and killed a suppressing fire Airborne Ranger and then sitting on the button till end of game (was Safe area). So both of us agreed it was a great game until that moment. We had great trades of pieces back and forth but then as soon as I took over that side of the board he revealed that thing on T2 (I went first) and killed off my guy and pinned my Foxtrot. Again, not sure what I could possibly do to prevent something like this. Before the TO came out I have a tough fight on that side with several flamer drones and a few decent covering fire areas. I even had a Heavy Flamer Grunt turn up on that side of the board to try and help but he was picked off before the TO showed up so he couldn't even suicide into it. Just by that one model (fine it is 41pts) he made a 5 point swing in his favour that I could do nothing about as he both killed/prevented more troops in that quarter as well as the one point for touching the box. Mines might have been an option to get him but I ran out of orders before being able to get into range as he had a bunch covering the objective as he is a good player. So it seems unless my opponent really misplays a TO trooper I'm doomed unless the mission is one where those don't help so much.

Honestly TO at a range is something that Ariadna in general is always going to struggle with a bit, we just have to stack mods and mitigate it as much as possible. MSV1 will at least cut down the BS penalty...

Antipersonnel mines would have worked just fine, I think.

They would have if I would have been able to get there earlier. Unfortunately there were 5 other models with combis and flamers in that area. If I placed a mine I would likely have lost that Foxtrot and then it would have been impossible to capture a safe area box. All for a just in case event. That's why I'm getting a rock paper scissor feel about this game (well at least this sectorial).

If he didn't have the TO guy I just wasted a specialist on nothing. I also could have planted the mine and then he would likely have killed the Foxtrot in ARO, or on his next turn before revealing the TO model he could simply walk a baggage bot into the mine and flamer the Foxtrot while he was at it and then I spent 2-3 orders on nothing and lost a model. I like all these ideas and theories people are giving me but I just can't seem to figure out how you are supposed to accomplish them without using tons of orders or simply just dying right after leaving a mission unaccomplished all for a single mine attack. Suicide missions are fine but I need to actually accomplish the mission as I die.

    Devil Dog maybe?

With Sensor you can discover TO in Hiden Deployment. Just move it at the objective and be sure nothing hides there.
Chain Rifle. A direct template to kill soft troops.

If you want to kill something more heavy, maybe you should go CC with both to a CC21 R2 17 Damage AP Attack. Only against non heavy CC Specialists.
High move, smoke and superjump to go fast were you want.

OH, yeah, and impetuous, just don't put it in front of their total reaction bot or anithing like that... Don't care about irregular, you still want to use him anyway.

And another thing, we are Ariadna, we should have plenty of orders to spend. We need them.

I am likely picking up a Devil Dog and 3rd Maverick this week. I'm still just annoyed by the rock/paper/scisors I am getting here. The last game I played I probably could have used him but instead I took 3 infiltrating flamers as recomended and all they did was waste an enemy order while generating some. Didn't really have much impact on the game at all. Grenade launcher was ok in theory and made the enemy worry a bit, however I never landed a shot after firing maybe 8 times between 2 models. FtF with poor stats means it doesn't matter what gun I am shooting and spec fire is low odds to begin with.

The more I play the more I regret not just going with Nomads to start.

You're comparing a sectorial to a vanilla faction? I mean, OK... Play Nomads then, I guess. But it's pretty silly to complain about the lack of options to deal with a high tech gadget opponent on a faction that is the low tech under dog, when you also chose to limit yourself to a sectorial (which inherently reduces your toolkit even further).
