    Hello everyone,

just wanted to say hello - and, of course, to ask a few, properly noobie questions :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I have been thinking about diving into Infinity for quite some time, initially because of the (absolutely stunning) miniatures and as of late because of the rules, particularly the ARO mechanics.

I have been playing Warhammer (40K and Age of Sigmar) for quite a while and managed to bring LadyWife into it during lockdown (thus saving me from total insanity). She liked the "feel" of Infinity as well and we now need some fresh air in terms of gaming systems, but the Infinity rules were a bit too tough for her taste... that is, until C1 dropped. At this point, we decided to give it go.

To start things off, we are getting rules and graphic novel / manga (i.e. Outrage and Betrayal), because fluff matter to us (a lot) and I think I'll get a first miniature to paint (which is good, as I've painted very few metal miniatures up to now). From there... well, suggestions welcome! I like the Combined Army a lot (sneaky, cool-looking bastards... sign me up!) so I am not sure that buying the C1 starting box would be the best way forward. But then, LadyWife is keen on Pan-O, which is in the starter box, so... well not sure. Again, suggestions welcome - I know nothing!

Now, if I am getting this right, there is no equivalent of (GW) "codexes" for Infinity's factions. I get why (and I am all for mass-updates as opposed to yet another supplement...) but what do you do when you want to "sit down and whip up a list"? The app is AMAZING (seriously. Again, coming from GW... bloody hell, what a difference - and it's free! Mental...) but for a new player the number of options is very intimidating. I have a ton of different units to go through - is there a place where I can have a look at all the possible units (which in case of C1 is not all the actual units available to the 4 factions in the broader context of N4) in one go?

I also get why there is no picture associated with a particular unit/load out, but now that I am thinking about building/buying two 15 pts lists to start with I am getting massively confused as to what I should actually buy, literally going back and forth from the app to the web store and carving my way through what miniatures are there and are available to C1, as some units are not directly searchable in the web store (you veterans probably know where they all are, within which expansion/pack or whatever, but I don't!). Am I missing any tricks that would make my life easier?

    Thanks!

Welcome to the game! There's not really a good place to see all the units as such, and it's hard to really know what an appropriate list is because it's a very subjective game. However https://human-sphere.com/index.php?title=Combined_Army is fairly good for showing what units look like and sometimes where they can be bought.

You need to decide a faction too - if Combined Army, is that vanilla (i.e. all of the faction as a whole) or one of the sectorials? If a sectorial, for example, there's suitable starter sets there. If vanilla, then it's more general but a video like this () might be helpful, though again subjective!

    Good luck :)

There is a switch on both the web app and the android/fruit phone apps that toggle back and forth between Code One and the "full" version of N4. Note that some models are out of print while the profiles remain valid. The wiki for both versions is up and is more or less (work in progress) linked back and forth.

Otherwise it sounds like Code One and their "Action Packs" are what you want, since they are specifically packaged for Code One and what's available in that rule set. Luckily for you, the Combined Army pack is available right now. Unfortunately for the LadyWife that box hasn't been released for Panoceania and I don't think it's even on the schedule through the end of the year. If you can find the Icestorm and Beyond Icestorm box(es) that would be the same models. The upside is that while the 10 models are more than you need for a 15 model force, it will grow with you as you reach out for new things to play with. Both Code One and N4 have the most generous proxy rules on the planet. I know this may horrify as you as a GW player, but you'll work through it. We're here to help.

Background is rough. Most of it is in the various hard covers but that's a lot of books to buy to read. A feasible alternative comes from Modiphius Games who have the license for a roleplaying game set in the Infinity background. As such, there are] "codex" in terms of the faction background books. Your LadyWife is in luck as the Panoceania one has been released but the Combined Army is still being rolled out. There is a partner board midway down these forums were those sorts of questions can be directed. But she'll get the choice of a print book or a .pdf. If my Haqqislam book was any indication, the core material is all in there along with other stories and backgrounds and the like. Plus RPG gear lists and some things you both may not be interested in.

While I understand you're going to be in/are in lockdown again, you may wish to reach out for the Totally Crit podcast on Facebook. They can probably help you a lot with finding more local people.

@Elapod , @Papa Bey , thanks very much for your help - massively appreciated!

A couple of weeks into Code One, I am still struggling to come to terms with the absence of:

, but I've been watching a few battle reports on Youtube and I think I am starting to get a better picture of what different units can do, albeit very limited to the Combined Army only.

In terms of what to buy, @Papa Bey advice is excellent but, me being impatient as a 5-year old, I hastily put together a couple of (12.5 points - not even sure that's a thing but hey, it's a start...) Code One lists for Combined Army and Pan-O containing a few miniatures I like the look of and... well, now it's painting time already. I'll ask for specific advice about painting in another thread - what I'll say is that it is quite clear I have been painting way too many miniatures in a rather grim&dark fashion that doesn't quite work with the "clean" look of Infinity models.

We have Ko-Dali (because Betrayal is awesome), a Mentor and a few Nox facing an Akal Commando, a Trauma-Doc and some ORC. I am positive this choice makes little sense from a gameplay perspective, but at the moment that's not an issue.

This is GOLD, thank you! Can I just ask, when you say:

, are you referring to the N3 and N4 "core books"? If there is more out there in addition to the core books, please do tell! Are the (for a lack of a better word) "supplements", say, books like Dedalus' Fall or Uprising, worth buying if one is keen on the fluff? I don't mind investing some cash into hard covers, I am on old fashioned creature!

Awesome - yes, no chance of any actual games anytime soon, but at some point the plague will end. I had a look at the ITS, looks amazing - with some luck we'll get some UK event at some point in the future... let us hope!

N4 is a slip case containing a fluff book and a rule book. The rule book is the smaller of the two.

Uprising, 3rd Offensive, and Daddy's Fall are mostly fluff. Uprising had a bunch of scenarios and DF has the campaign system, but the majority of the book is background.

Terrific, thanks! The only one who's not going to be entirely happy about all that is my wallet :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
