Hello. I’m still fairly new to the game and it doesn’t seem Svalarheima is coming out anything this year, and after much reading (ty for the tutorials, especially VIRD), I decided upon Varuna. I’m still unsure how to split models between groups. Was told get your first group to 10 with the big hitters and then let the rest go to 2.

When I first built the list I had 2 groups with 7 orders a piece. Group 1 was Patsy Haris (offense) and group 2 was Core Fireteam (defense).

Speaking of, I would like opinions on improving this force as it’s the first I built and will hopefully be buying the models soon? I chose the clipper for the core because it sounded cool while I was on sleep aides. What group would you place each model into?

Thank you for your assistance. *happy fish people noises* I plan to get them when they come out.

You have sunk very many SWC and Points into your main link and on the other side you have no hacker to buff your remote. And for your happy fish men sound you have very little in your list
And before you take two paramedics I would recommend to take one FO.

I'd lose the Kamau HRL and Clipper (your engineer is running off with the Haris team and won't be able to revive it) from the Fireteam Core and downgrade both paramedics, use the points to add a Fusilier ML and Bipandra (so you have a real doctor to stand the Kamau MSR back up). You've got enough points to upgrade the Peacemaker to a Spitfire, especially if you change the EB to the Red Fury.
Now you've got 3 attack pieces, the Kamau HMG, the Peacemaker and the EB Red Fury, while still keeping a decent ARO game.
You could also change the Lt. to a Fusilier and replace the ZC sensor with a Pathfinder, that way you can bring a Helot SMR for more ARO power, but you run a bigger LOL risk to an alpha-strike (or exploding AD HI).

    Army Mobile bug...

Some better advice for running two combat groups is to look at what needs orders. Your primary combat group has the Patsy Haris, a mixed Core, the Zulu-Cobra, and the Echo-Bravo, and each of those is likely to want 2-3 orders a turn. Plus, the Echo-Bravo isn't even on the board at the start of Turn 1. That's going to be tight. I'd consider moving the Echo-Bravo to Group 2, probably trading it for a Fugazi.

I would ditch the Clipper (i don't like it) and get a third Fusilier for the Core Fireteam and use the remaining 1.5 SWC to get a Spitfire Zulu Cobra

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I didn’t put the Helots in because I don’t know when they were coming out, where as I know the ZC is out this month and Patsy in April. I did proxying once with Fusiliers as them and forgot which ones were actually fusiliers and which were mermen.

On the subject of Fusiliers and proxying, what are some better looking options for them? I’m not a fan of their models and they don’t look very aquatic world special forces, which I understand for basic troops. I’m not a gs wiz. The spec op guy I like because he has a helmet, which if they all did would make me happy. I’m use to games that don’t allow proxying or are not very accepting of the practice, so I’m not sure how tight Infinity’s rules are in regard to that.

Looks like Chauncey the Clipper will be ditched.

Not to be that guy - but wasn't it determined that the machinist can't join the Patsy Haris? She can "start" the Haris, and the Kamau can join it because they are Wildcard, but it isn't a "Kamau Haris" (as the Haris would need to be "started" by a Kamau with the Fireteam: Haris rule).

There isn't such a rule. A machinist can join the Patsy Kamau Harris

I deleted my comment, as I don't want to hijack this thread. I'll send you a DM.

I agree with the previous comments about the SWC and your core - as well as dropping the second paramedic for an FO. Still counts as a specialist for most missions, and give you a different ARO option in certain situations.

The Echo Bravo paramedic is fun, as the AD + Parrot gives you some options, and can even help dislodge ARO pieces sitting near the back.

Not according to @ijw . Patsy is a wildcard Haris, having a Kamau makes it a Kamau link, and the Machinist can therefor join it.

When you form a Fireteam: Haris, it needs to include a trooper who has the Skill. Unless mentioned in the Sectorial Fireteam table, there is no rule anywhere saying that it has to be a specific trooper.

I prefer to ask myself questions like "Why I'm taking this unit? What will it do during game? Which consequences of that choice?"
Let me ask this questions almost about every unit in this list and answer them(according to our meta and my playstyle)

Will start with really problematic part: core link
You have 2 same cheap specialists, great ARO kamau-MSR, not so great kamau-HRL and strange clipper.

1)Why not to take different fusiliers-specialists? FO will help to accomplish more classifies. And don't forget about flash pulse.
2)Clipper have same stats as fusilier-ML, but costs more. Can you assist it with hacker and repair it with engi who run away? No, you don't need clipper in that list.
3)You have in same link 3 ARO pieces, but bear in mind, that opponent can always look at only one of them. And after death of almost harmless clipper(in comparison with kamaus), the whole link will lose +3BS mod. And kamau-MSR(and especially kamau-HRL) will be not so difficult to kill.
So don't use 2 different AROs in one link.(I prefer use only 1 ARO)

Varuna have fish-people for great defence. They can easily steal 2+ orders from your opponent each. (First for stop and asking ARO, second for double discover because he don't want to fail here and third for killing(or dying, lol))
    I prefer to take 2.

And why not to take doctor for real healing instead of paramedic? Bipandra is really bad choice for defencive link just because she costs almost like fusilier+traumadoc and she can't take palbot in link.

    2) Haris: It's really good, but I prefer kamau(haris), additional fusilier and 5 points for something interesting(but depends on mission, because Patsy is the only tough close-range specialist in VIRD)
    3) Zulu-lieutenant. You don't want to have offencive Lt. in pano. And with Patsy you have other more productive way to spend this Lt.order. I prefer simple fusilier-Lt.(It depends on mission too. I will take zulu-Lt. if I want to protect Lt. in Hunting party, Firefight, Decapitation etc.)
4)Echo-Bravo (paramedic) is interesting, but wild parrot is only disposable(1). I really like it especially against HI/REM links, but in most cases LRL or Red Fury will be betterat killing.(Role of this unit depends on playstyle, meta and missions, of course.)
    5) Fugazis are must have. Cheapest regular orders+can flash pulse. (Also look at Mulebots. They can do nothing, but still as cheap)
6)Peacemaker is very good offencive close range unit. And I don't think you should take it with spitfire.
7)Zulu-KHD. As 0swc hacker our only choice. As KHD not very good because of 13WIP and 0BTS, but can still kill enemy hackers in active turn and much more with breaker combi.(As 0.5swc hacker for enlisting REMs I prefer crocman-AHD because he is TO-infiltrator-specialist with mines and costs only +4 to FO(or +6 to basic version) instead of +6(+8) fusilier for example)
