I have been playing MO for about 4 months now, And I have not been having fun with MO at all. Last weekend I was playing MO in a game of Annihilation and I had Joan in her five man link team with Hospitallers, the list I played with had no over watch units and I watched my opponent move his units into my deployment zone and kill ever unit in my deployment zone. Come to think of it I had one over watch unit but it was not used in that roll, So! I figure I'll try to fix my MO issue by using this list but at some point I will have to buy a box of Magister Knights, Ok! so, here is the plan, I plan to use the Order Sergeant with HRL and the Father Knight with ML as over watch units, I'm think maybe they can slow down my opponent. Any feed back will be welcome,

In my experience playing Joan links, going second forces you to play risky. You have to poke your HMG out to cover your firelane a bit and hope that dice dont fail you too terribly. You often have to expose your TO units on the first turn to try and slow them down. It's a big risk with all your dudes, but the key is to slow your opponent down enough and hopefully blunt the attack. Hope he goes after objectives right away as that means he's not assaulting you. You dont have a lot of AROs but you have to make them count and stack. I would actually recommend something more like this if you want Joan link:

Military Orders──────────────────────────────────────────────────[IMG]9 [IMG]1 JOAN OF ARC Lieutenant MULTI Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, AP CCW. Your list doesnt really present different issues for your opponent, just the same issue larger scale. The FK missile is a chunk of points that could be reinvested into other units. In terms of ARO it's pretty much the same worries that a HRL presents (single shot blast) but the tangebands are further. Compared to the list I made, you have to deal with burst 4, TO sniper, flash pulse, linked HMG, TO mines and various weapons pointing in different directions from the link team.

TBH, I'm not a fan of the Joan's link but maybe something can be done with it if you invest the rest of your points in defense.
Maybe something like this could work, but I'm not sure about it:

I don't play MO, but I play against it fairly frequently, and it seems to me that Joan works best as a solo piece.

Definitely this. Solo or in a Duo but the Crusade link is only for high level players and it need some time to know how to design a good list around it.

@andre61 what about MO have you felt is lacking?

You mention lacking in ARO presence, have you tried the FK ML in an OS link? (mix in a few santiago for extra punch) its honestly comparable to the Kamau in terms of ARO potential and if the Kamau didnt exist would be the strongest in PanO undoubtedly. There is also the Magister ML if you are running a HI mag core, or the TR HMGs for dual role ARO/Active and the TO MSR for the surprise ARO role.

consider starting your lists with one of the above (I recomend the FK ML and OS Link) and then adding wildcards to the link and external support as you go for the mission

How about something like this? Nominal OS core with a lot of goodies in there: Albedo MSV2 Black Friar to leverage against enemy MSVs, Father Knight ML for respectable ARO, OS Multi Sniper for longer range bands, a BS 14 Spitfire Santiago for Medium range and the KHD Santiago + TinBot for additional hacking protection.

Once a pathway has been cleared by the Core Fireteam, you can move up Joan to take out key pieces with her superior movement and BS.

OS TO:Camo infiltrator with mines for late game surprises and button pushing or disrupting dug in fire teams.

Doctor and Machinist with a PalBot each to keep everything alive and going.

Fuggazi for the regular order, flash pulse ARO and Repeater coverage.

Regarding F-K ML specifically - my experience is that it's better in active turn, than as ARO piece. For ARO I'd rather use Sierra, OS MSR, Peacemaker guarding access routes.

Crusade fireteam is a trap. OS fireteam with F-K, Santiagos and maybe BF (pretty much like in Knauf's example, or Hospitallers with OS and Santiagos are much more effective. As was mentioned, Joan works better on her own, possibly with hidden KotHS as CoC backup.

Basically, Joan is for Duo now, the 5-man is just too unwieldy.
(maybe you can make it work at 400 points, but the threats are so much greater at that level as well)

well thats unexpected, I mean, its going to be the same dice active or reactive, and while you forgo the choice of when to engage (mostly) in reactive it also isnt costing you orders.

That being said, being an active piece as well as reactive is a point in its favour, and taking it doesnt preclude you from taking the other options you have mentioned (especially given its 1.5 SWC)

Being a reactive piece means you'll be eating burst 4-5 in return, from the place most advantageous to the enemy, where they will spread out from their main shooter to not let multiple models get hit by the blast. You don't always wanna go that route with the FK-ML, like say if a linked vet kaz AP HMG is staring him down.

True, but that's valid for pretty much any unit in the game except things with Neurocinetics, isn't it?

and using it in active means you are often forgoing that burst advantage to fight B2 vs B1/2 on your own order expenditure.

Low burst is a bummer, but high BS and range allow to balance that to an extent. F-K can outrange Spitfires, and with a bit of luck even HMGs.

I'm also not saying that it's some kind of first-rate approach. Most of the time I'd go with F-K/Santiago Spitfire. But it can be done, planned for, and it's fully possible to catch opponent flat-footed with this. Nobody expects the missile inquisition.

Better than having your model die, leading to one less order in your next turn just to salt the wound.

I like making sure the odds favor my rolls, if possible. In a game about stacking mods, that seems like a good approach.

Absolutely, which is why you generally want to avoid using anything you'd rather not lose as an ARO piece.

unless its something like a BS17 ARM8 (cover) B2 ML with 2W thats more likely to delete things than die (EXP template). Very similar to the BS16 B2 MSV MSR....

The ARO game is a game PanO can and does play very effectively, and a FK ML is a piece of that puzzle

I'd run the stats but am too lazy. Suffice to say -6 for cover and mimetism (down to bs 11), and burst 5 on 16s DAM 15 AP hmg (DAM 15 vs arm 6 now) makes him take a dirtnap rather often.

it's not a catch-all solution, nor does it stop smoke, or camo markers rushing at you, sadly.

But, it can be useful on occasion

    welcome to ARO....oO?

like, yes, thats how the game plays.....still the best non-Kamau ARO in PanO....
