We got it man. Yes CB could make them proportional. But if you can't tell they are even women, then what the hell is the point of making a figure for them? I just saw the "female" figures for Stargrave and I'm disappointed. They look like men, unless you look really close, or they are cross-dressers. I want a figure that looks like it's female right away. I don't want to study it to tell. CB has their style and that's that. Also, you will see that they have made lots of changes through years.

Does Infinity still present itself as (somewhat) Sci-Fi Cyberpunk with aestetics inspired by Anime/Manga? Or its just another generic bland grimdark Sci-Fi nowadays?
I think that part should be crucial when you considering unit designs between "pinup girls with guns" and "biologically female soldiers indistinguished from biological males"

And are we really so bad at it that "anorexics with backs half the width of a civilian male HVT model, weapons downscaled" or "pinup poses with nakedness or exposed boobs / butts" is the only way we can tell? Surely not?

Because, like I've shown above you CAN tell, but the tells are smaller, lighter frame, faces, hair length, etc.; instead CB's "artistic choice" is making male soldiers look competent and female ones quite often like prancing idiots. When you mix them in single type units it starts to look really bad.

Want them to be easier to tell, with a proportional body? Accentuate the tells, but do it subtly. For example accentuate non-regulation hair. That's a great tell if the face is hard to show. Or do it the opposite way, give the female soldier a GI Jane cut but make the face really feminine. The contrast will immediately allow you to tell.

    Do this:

    instead of this:

Keep the general form proportionate and gear appropriate. It can be done in a tasteful and easy to tell way.

Females tend to have a "backpack is going to slip soon" look (those poor Israelis), because their shoulders are narrower on average. The proportions graph you pasted shows 0.245 female vs 0.259 male ratio against own height, so they would need to be taller to have the same total width. They also tend to have fuller tights, buttocks, breasts, and wider pelvis and higher waist line. Those and other differences are what makes them need a different vest (eg F-IOTV) or uniform, with different cuts here or there, or pockets rearranged (IIRC it also applies to webbing, but unable to find that ref now). Of course you can always find the tall buffed female or the round short male that will go better with the male or female suit. USArmy do not call them that but normal and alternate, in increased number of sizes to cover more cases.
It is not just that she is shorter, the volume arrangement changes too. And as I already said, if you layer too many things, approaching explosive disposal suit level, it gets hard or impossible (and even so, female bomb technicians are getting properly sized outfits). I am not discussing that. But for not heavy equipped, and when issued proper clothes, it should not be impossible to have and notice a bit of variety without always resorting to male body builder and female stick. A middle term between ghillie suit or pinup (for both sexes).

Oh, wait, it seems we more or less agree. All refs I try to use are real military (or police, in other thread), specially ones about all the issues leading to uniform changes in recent years. Just that I go for the ones where people is not a blob of cloth.

Madrid one, not Leeds. Because maybe wrong city now, one museum moved to Toledo.

Must be on loan then. It was at the Leeds armoury in Leeds, England when I last saw it. Must be on loan to Madrid. Damn, I really need to go visit these places. So much cool stuff to see.

Hmm… gonna have to try to get up to Birmingham then. Will it be available for all 3 days of the ukexpo event? Daft question but I’m paranoid.

Which Madrid museum? Maybe you are talking about some armour owned by or lent to a museum still in Madrid, or the Army one that was moved to Toledo. So you think visiting Madrid will let you see that part again, but you will have to see other things, like pictures of armours at Prado (aka flat NMM, because lazy bums did not want to do gilding :P ).

Ah, there seems to have been some confusion between us here. Sorry, that’s on me. I was talking about King Henry VIIIths armour as an example of armour with exaggerated features. This armour is in the Leeds armoury in England. At least I think it still is, it could be on loan somewhere.

I mentioned wanting to visit Madrid and it’s museum as @Nuada Airgetlam posted some lovely examples from the Warsaw museum (have to go here) then someone else posted a few pictures from a museum in Madrid which I think has since been edited so I cannot say which one it was for certain. The photo had three knights in full plate in a circle together ready for jousting. Looked great. I’ll visit them all though if I’m in the area. If you or anyone else knows what museum in Madrid that I may be thinking of, please let me know.

Hmmm... I didn't notice it at first, It just hit me - how does this guy aim and shoot? He's just holding onto his pogo stick (presumably to steer), there's no triggers on the stick, there's no 'tiny hands' to mimic pilots articulation and arm movement. I may assume that turret part just follows where he looks, but what's with the mantis arms? How does he control them? Is he lobotomised, does his brain connect directly to the suit? How can he dismantle then? Why can't they just cut off his head, feed it with oxygen and proteins and put it inside armored shell (or even off-site like vastly superior Nomads do)?

Maybe... there are two of them!
The pilot is inside, moving the TAG, and the other one is hanging outside, controlling the turret and paying the pilot doesn't crush him while walking.

As far as it goes, those look like more realistic controls than other manned TAGs. The TAG's computer and sensors will handle things like balance, limb placement, target resolution, avoiding crushing the pilot between the thighs when running, etc, while the pilot just tells the computer where to go and who to shoot.
It does look kind of goofy with the TAG using the pilot as a baby-björn style EOD suit. Rest of the TAG looks good, but I'd have wanted the pilot higher up and the TAG's own head feels redundant when the rest of the pilot is already this exposed.

I've always thought the point of TAGs was to mimic the pilot's movements, and we're just accepting a universe where that's the best way to control a giant robot. I guess non-Aleph AI isn't good enough to control a humanoid body as well as a human can.

If Morats can have a TAG that's controlled by AI and just directed by a pilot, there's no need for a pilot at all. Then again, I feel the same way about the Maggie - it's just not a TAG, it's a vehicle since it's not mimicking the pilot's movements.

If they wanted a Hungry-shaped TAG, they should just give it a Hungry pilot. Problem solved.

Yeah, but that kinda makes the "pilot" part obsolete...
I always liked that manned TAGs appeared to be just big "dumb" (compared to more advanced TAGs) mech suits with manual controls (which made POS look weird, but still)

Maybe the pilot's brain is directly wired to the TAG? No movement or controls required.

Morats definitely have the technology to make a remote presence TAG (see the Taryot) they just don't because they're not cowards like the Shasvastii.

It's a decision-making module that can't be disrupted by enemy counter-measures (if we ignore that in this game whether a unit is remotely controlled or not has no bearing on if they can be disrupted or taken control over) and can function autonomously should the TAG be damaged (if we ignore, once again, that the pilot loses both ID and EGO when the TAG stops working).

Aren't remote TAGs a lot more advanced than remote HI (see: Yu Jing) which is a lot more advanced than remote Remotes (see: Nomads)? I always figured that Morats are not only almost copy-pasted Yu Jing profiles (read this as tounge-in-cheek) but also on very similar tech levels outside the stuff granted by the AI.

As I understand it TAGs and HI with REM presence are piloted, actual remotes such as Mulebots are basically limited dumb AI which can potentially be jockeyed but are largely left to operate under their own programming.

I recall reading that all of them can operate on dumbed-down AI and all of them can be remotely controlled if needs be, though for the bigger units it's more of an immersion (you become the Su-Jian) than remote control.

Pretty much, there's no difference in game terms but most rempres TAGs, Su Jian, Hollow Men, and Taryot all have a pilot controlling them via neural link from a safe distance. This is more immersive than simple VR and joystick controls as very rarely pilots have died when their TAG was destroyed, most notably when Nourkias killed Toni by using the Endgame program on Eduardo.

Most REMs and the Karakuri are pseudo-AI or Geist controlled with that can either operate autonomously or under human control similar to modern day drones, though Servant Remotes have limited remote operation abilities for healing and repairing.

Then there's the Marut and CombArmy 'drons which are inhabited by AI aspects, and the Avatar which is under the direct control of big daddy EI itself (which is how it gets it's immunity to possession)

The reasonable thing would be for there to be controls on the dashboard (the interior that we can’t see from the outside) and/or toggles on the sticks. I’m thinking about the last set of motorcycle controls that I saw and how much you’d be able to see from this side…

I think I’m realizing that there’s this big dead zone in sizes between the two extremes:
    - When the vehicle is big enough, you can just strap the pilot to the torso (even if it looks like a baby carrier, ala the GW walkers) or fit the pilot inside the torso
    - On the small side, the vehicle is basically an exoskeleton for the pilot
In the terrible middle, the pilot is just in the way of the TAG’s moving parts without making the TAG’s hips way larger than the current render. :(

Edit: Or the hips on these carrier style tags have to be a lot more complicated in the back, with the rear end contracting for the depicted standing pose and expanding out for a reasonable running pose. But that’s still really a matter of “the pilot’s in the way of my legs” without using a horrible zig-zag running pattern.
