Yep, I've used them in the past just for eclipse smoke in the right place at the right time. In a pinch one can also crawl into melee with any model in a kamau link and DACCW them in the goolies. The biggest complication for the Rasyat against Varuna is the Helots, especially if fielded in full AVA or deployed specifically to protect the link. There might be a hole in a network of decoy markers (or, you can take a calculated risk if you think you know which one is real) but finding a landing zone if they're deployed under camo and have functional 360 LOF can be devilishly tricky. If you can just break through the overwatch then MAF's general warband and value trading game should be mostly fine against especially the lighter VIRD lists, but the prospect of actually pushing through the Kamau and potentially just hitting multiple failure states concerns me. It's one of the first pieces that genuinely forces us to play PanO's game on PanO's terms, where my usual 'Morat Passive-Aggressive Force' approach doesn't work.
I think Suryat with with HMG in a 5-man link is better at dealing with Kamau. You get 5 dice, shooting on 13s, ARM7 total in case of missed hit, 2w, good range. At least that's how I've dealt with their snipers few games ago.

(0 | 4) 6 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army It was my second game ever against Ariadna or it's sectorial. I've heard stories that Vet Kazaks are monsters, but now I saw that firsthand. Boy are they tough. Both of his linked Kazaks had a really good defensive position, so I decided to bring one down. Managed to find a spot where only 1 would see me, and eventually took a wound off of him, he turned on NWI and went prone. I went back with my link team, set up two AROs - rocket and a ML. My mistake was that for some odd reason I decided to leave 1w Suryat as an ARO. Then after losing completely Q-drone and Suryat, but killing 1 of his Vet Kazaks, ran out of long range weaponry besides ML. Second dumb decision was to try to kill him with ML. of course that didn't go well. But lesson learned - hide your HMG, just leave ML as an ARO (at least vs such units that can mow you down with high BS and negative BS mods on them) I've lost in the end 2-5, but with every recent game I'm starting to feel that it's just down to few dumb moves rather than roster being shitty. Decision to link NCO raktorak this time with Suryat+Vang link was correct.
Yep, it's favoured to win (43 to 31, as good as it gets in faction to the best of my knowledge), and not a bad solution at all provided you've got it in one of your lists.

I suspected that Rasyat's gonna be useless vs my opponent, as he's notorious for securing his DZ perfectly from Paradrops or walk-ins. it's like unbelievable. In the end I had an option to drop/walk-in safely, but too far away, or risking and dropping him and eat AROs. managed to land, failed armor saves. I think Krakots would have been much better. Suryat and vanguards are love. Really liked the LGL, but I do understand that spec firing on 11's is a lottery, but I've managed to kill his data-tracker puppeteer and Intruder. Sadly he had a second Intruder :D I think I like this roster a bit better than previous. ML is nice, but spec firing on 11's in good range is really useful. Overall after playing 4 games with new updates I can tell you that at least 2 improvements that I've managed to try out (linkable Suryat and wildcard Raktorak), I really-really like them, and things indeed got better.

At least you can form a better core for dealing with targets at closer range, due to two wildcards and the fact that yaogats can start linked as a harris.
Well I am 5 games in with the Morat changes and I have to say I love it. My star performers have been Sograt FA2 and 4 Daturazi/ Ratorack Red Fury. Still have some more combos to try out and going to see how the stalker unit works out.
I'm still trying to find a Dat core list that clicks for me. There are some good ones in this thread though. Right now all I'm working with is a return to my terrible (wonderful) old jank of spec fire grenades on 23s.

(0 | 9) 6 SWC | 300 PointsOpen in Infinity Army I’ve seen a lot of talk about the Raktorak/Dat core, and I’ve finally got a non-LI tournament coming up tomorrow. I wrote this list with Aquisition and Supremacy in mind. The idea is for the Daturazi core to gum up the middle of the board, score zones, keep the raktorak protected with smoke, synergize with the Yaogat, etc. I keep trying to find ways to fit the Sogarat FA2 in all of my lists because I love it, and he can also drag the xenotech along to protect him from templates. Big plus for me. Vanguard lieutenant in group 2 is only there for the NCO raktorak and to put orders into my repeater and TR bot. Whenever I write with the Daturazi core, I feel naked not putting my link on ARO duty, so I tried my best to jam the TR HMG in the list even though I only have a Rodok killer hacker. I’m not sure what I’d spend this swc on otherwise, or if I really even need to. C&C is appreciated, and I am still having fun writing lists for Morats, so that’s a good thing right???

(0 | 26) 4.5 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army since he set up quite defensively to duck the soggy (soggy had two good lanes of fire and some decent opportunities over the whole board) it allowed the haris to secure the antennas on the right flank while the vanguard link grabbed the other two on my end and made a move on the center. a couple extremely lucky crits from the vanguard combi (pair of 5s in suppression) put an end to his multi sniper opening up the rest of the board to movements... he didnt go down without a fight however i was left with the soggy raktorak duo and two of the rodoks, but i managed to get all but one of his specialists for a 4 - 0 win for me... the ninja kh was a pain when reveled but didn't slow down the suryat hmg from gunning down half his force... first real win in almost a year. got a few more games coming up in the casual league, maybe get a couple more wins :)
Sounds like a good game where the plan worked out. The sogorat fa2 variant is legitimately a frightening thing to face, and rodok Harris is A+. Even without any swc gun in it. I have a lot of trouble feeling satisfied building a list if I don't include soggy fa2 and Suryat hmg haha Although my typical (untested) approach has been soggy and Suryat as solos (coordinated move ftw) and then hungry or day list with a raktorak or two. I've got an event on the 30th that I can't wait to try this out on. The more I think of it, kurgat, khd rodok, and zerat are now good solos, too. You've got three different specialists that can hang out in defensive places, and coordinate drop mines basically everywhere, without having to be repeat models. MAF is just begging me to use ally CTs on turn one lol.
This is MAF-adjacent rather than proper MAF reporting, but I ran a local event over the weekend. I played vanilla combined and happily I finally got to play into, rather than against, a MAF list. It was an interesting experience; limited insertion Rodok list with Full Auto Sogorat and a Dr Worm datatracker in Frostbyte. I was running a variant my high model count Avatar list I mentioned over in the Avatar thread. It was... not a close game. As good as the new Sogorat is, it can't contest an Avatar in the HMG range bands, and without good smoke and melee my opponent had no out. I don't begrudge him the choice though, it was otherwise not a bad list for Frostbyte at all. (He did get to use an Oznat sensor to reveal then Deactivate a pair of Libertos mines pinning back the Rodok core on the first turn. It was pretty cute. He could probably have disarmed all of them a bit quicker by just suiciding in the Preta from the right angle, but I don't begrudge him the chance to actually use Deactivator for the first time ever.) In the remaining two games I ran a vanilla list with the shotgun Riacho and finally got to put the shotgun to good use. She hit an Aleph position that was entrenched on some high ground that was nevertheless a bit lower than her silhouette height and absolutely scythed them down, shotgunning Teucer at good range out of cover to also catch the myrmidion and thorakitai behind him. Thing of beauty.
Raicho. I had a good run with the Shotgun vs Steel Phalanx - a Hector team ran up into my Raicho, so I continually blatted Hector with spray shots on BS 20 and catch the rest of his team with shrapnel.
I'll just start spelling it 'Riachu' from now on. Being wrong in two different ways counts as being right, right? Like a double-negative?
