I picked up the remote box yesterday pretty much exclusively for the Rui Shi, but I've been looking at the Lu Duan and thinking about the possibilities. Does anyone here swear the Lu Duan? And if so, how do you use it?

Place Baggage Bot on table. Wait for opponent to get distracted or make Van Zant appear in front of him. Make JoJo reference. Flamethrower things.

Burst 2 Heavy Flamer and MK12 in ARO (with an EVO) is excellent DZ/corner defense.

Using Holo1 and a Su Jian on the opposite side of your DZ can disguise which flank the attack will come from.

Holo2 can help with minesweeping, and grants surprise shot.

21 points and 0 SWC is a real bargain for the above

Make it three Aragoto, watch as your opponent sets up to ARO for three bikes coming down a lane, move it 6-4 and laugh at them.

Not the same silhouette, unfortunately. Su Jian is 3 and 5 (40mm bases) and the Lu Duan is S4 (55mm).

Forget the games, focus on mine sweeping and surprise shot. Supportware when able. Lu Duan is great, it's just Rui Shi is godlike.

I haven't used a holoprojector before - do the fake holoechos trigger mines?

    Bollocks, so it is :)

I think the last time I faced a Su Jian was before the new model was out and the different forms had different base sizes.

The mobility form did have the same base size as a Lu Duan between the introduction of 55mm bases and the updated profile pdf in N3 (before HSN3). After either that pdf or HSN3 happened the mobility went back to S3 and the Combat stayed S5.

So there wasa a tiny (not really tiny) window of time when the Lu Duan as Su Jian was possible.

Of course, pre 55mm bases the Lu Duan and Mobility Su Jin also had the same base size and the Lu Duan could disguise as one. There was the Infamous 5 Su Jian list, which was an absolute monstruosity to play (because fuck building 5 old Su Jians) and deliciously troll. It was also kinda useless, because it could only be played at 400 points and you wasted 6.5 of your SWC on that. But the lols when you deployed 5 Su Jians were worth it.

It certainly felt like longer, it was an awful ruling to prop up a niche build for trolling casuals.

I think it was just a terrible mistake. CB is hardly into trollish niche builds, they are more into terribly ineffiecient niche builds. Like the Closed Battle Lists.

And they tendo to make mistakes.

Well, the pros just keep stacking up. Enough so just ordered some Warsenal 55mm holoecho markers.

The Lu Dan with some hacker boost is a perfect plan B if your IP/Tag dies, or a group 2 low order carry.

I'm probably going to get some raised eyebrows for this. But i used the Lu duan more than the Ru Shi back in the day. Cause i played vanilla and i had other sources of MSV2 but before the Kanren, the Lu Duan was our only holo echo unit for mine sweeping and the general holo echo shenanigans.

Why not both though? It'll cost you if you don't deploy in Holo2 but intend to use it ASAP, but it's a single order then.

Holo2 works awful on Lu Duan: it's dreadful to deploy and move, KanRen is better triggering mines and Koalas, and now it can't disguise nothing but a Rui Shi. This unit needs to be reworked, just change the base to 40mm and proxy a S3 rem.

ps. still not sure if it fits on a 40mm base

The Lu-duan is a very good gunfighting robot that doesn't cost any SWC, period. Even without holo 2 it would be worth it, but the ability to clear mines and surprise shot makes it even better. It's my go-to option to fill my lists when i'm around 20-ish points and already got everything i need.

Forget Holo 2. If he was ever included in my list, I'd have the list look like a generic list, with the generic options and make it look like it's a baggage bot. Never underestimate the power of holo 1 and how it can mess wiht your opponents plans.

Can you start in Deployed in the Holo1 state then use the Holoprojection 2 activation clause for the Opponent's Active turn in the Holoecho Activation description?

    Yes, you absolutely can.

The Lu Duan really is a toolbox of exceptional quality - it can fight, hide, trick, or utility its way out of nearly any situation. The only reason I think it's not hugely popular is because the Rui Shi provides a lot more point-and-click murder potential. The Lu Duan's bag of tricks requires a lot more exploration to properly utilize, but once you do it's hard to leave home without one.
