Yes, somebody who wants to paint MRRF minis surely will be serviced well by proxying USARF or Nomads for them. And the fact that the only option to get MRRF or Tohaa minis is to pay through the roof on the second hand market has nothing to do with decisions made by Corvus Belli, yes?
Proxying can be an answer for certain factions. I used the Kamau from Varuna as my neoterra bolts. They have the same relative weapon loadouts for the most part and after painting the helmets red, they fit the part quite nicely. I think the problem of proxying for some people comes from factions having a certain identity and if you want to represent that identity on the field then you want certain types that look the part. For example the Svalarheima fusiliers are going to fit the profile but will look out of place on say Varuna or Acontecimento. Not to say however that proxying doesn’t work really well for other factions or units as I mentioned above. I also find that haqqi have a relatively ubiquitous design across their troops so as long as the weapons are correct they work really well in a variety of roles. I also think that some of the USARF could work very well indeed for MRRF. I have long been an advocate of being able to order miniatures from Corvus Belli on a made to order basis. It would enable those who wished to collect certain forces that aren’t in the current range. The problem here is if CB have or haven't kept the moulds for said miniatures. If they haven’t then it could be a giant headache to redo them and cast the miniatures. If they have kept the moulds then it’s going to be a benefit to costs only if enough people want to buy the OOP miniatures. It’s a difficult place to be in. I’d love made to order to happen but I don’t see it occurring. As such proxying is at the moment the only way to play certain forces unless you buy from second hand places like eBay. For those who really want the minis that are OOP however (like myself) your wallet may never forgive you but you’ll at least have sated your Pokémon syndrome and have the toys. I wouldn’t buy Ferrari. They keep the car you’ve bought and let you play with it only on their racing circuit. I’d rather go with a Lamborghini. I do completely get the point you’re making here though, I’m just using any excuse to discuss fast cars.
Every market works like this guys, wake up. No one forces us to buy a classic car that is no longer in production, but if we want it at all costs, we must pay a high price from a collector, not ask the industry to put that car, out of production from years, back on sale.
Also, marshmallow peeps (if you live in the USA). I have visited at many different times of the year and have found them every time.
My family loves them (I can't stand them) and are constantly trying the new flavors... as an aside, try Peep jousting. Put two different colored ones on a plate, put a toothpick in their "beaks", run them in the microwave, and who stabs the other first wins.
Man, the copium is suffocating. A miniature from a currently supported game faction that went OOP within the last few years is not a '67 Shelby.
We tried this! Then left them in too long and they sort of… ‘sploded. We spent about an hour trying to remove burnt marshmallow from the microwave. Still funny though.
Or one could also say the unreasonable expectations are suffocating. An OOP miniature, regardless of current support or not, is a scarce, bordering on rare, thing, that one should expect to pay a premium for. Simple as.
It also might be that since it is always been the case, some people are not fully bothered by it. I can't remember a time that Infinity had a model for every profile. And sometimes the offical model does not meet the image you want. So we proxy.
Well, GW seems to do reprints from time to time, which you have to order. But the price seems quiet high (20€ per model from the list I have seen) So it is not unreasonable to daydream that such a thing could also happen with Infinity.
CB have actually pretty solid about not doing direct-only products. The vast majority of their sales and community building is done by their retailers, so they work to keep their catalogue the same whether you're buying direct or through your FLGS.
We saw one long forgotten exclusive ninja in one of their future packs, buy the way. Who knows, who would return next... If someone would return. I am trying to not give myself false hopes. Plus, I become more tolerant to proxies since the story with siocast and other “new exciting materials” begins.
The Ninja is a recent 3D miniature, not something one can say about the majority of the Merovingian line for example, so it will take a bit more than just a repack, resculpted elements of Merovingia are slowly showing up though.
Indeed. If to talk about Merovingian, lots of them need rework to be on level with modern miniatures. Not all, but metros for sure. Loup Garou, for example, looks good even now. But I am talking also about other miniatures. For example I am gathering Druze now. Not the easiest, but also not the hardest thing, and yet I would be happy to see returning of limited Druze hacker. Or some characters from Outrage pack. But that would be a good addition. Other miniatures are hard, but possible to get. To be honest, getting Uhahu and Emily would make me think about to try even StarCo...
The Outrage box is really cool - I just painted mine, I was lucky to find it in a local store: https://www.reddit.com/r/InfinityTheGame/comments/1340a19/outrage/ This set, plus a hapless Brawler lieutenant: https://www.reddit.com/r/InfinityTheGame/comments/13402o2/brawlers_converted/ and I have a 200 pts StarCo list :) It would be cool if CB did some "collectors reprints" occasionally - even though some of us loves rare special edition collectors-only minis, where their OOPness is part of the reason we collect them :)
Indeed. Very lucky. I remember Defiance reinforcement packs. They looked good for some of the factions... may be something like that could be done but as regular product. Of course with another package. Or at least booster pack with three characters for StarCo. To talk about collectors-only. One of the ninjas in recent pack would be ex-exclusive from Red Veil. I see no reasons for CB to return someone else, if they broke exclusiveness of one of their miniatures.
For Outrage, when they put the starter pack in OOP, they said they were releasing it the next month in a mysterious Collection Pack, but it never happened and no word on it, even though it could have sold quite a few before the final discontinuation.
The proxy rules make for great gameplay honestly, but the games are just one aspect of the hobby. I see what you mean about the car analogy, but its just not the same imho. Luxury cars are scarce on purpose, because of both the time and effort to make, and are produced in low numbers to preserve that feeling of exclusivity. Fiat has the capability to produce millions of ferrari's but they dont. These are hobby and play pieces, not collectibles. If they are capable of making more, the only person hurt are resellers by making them available. Theres more dubious means of getting OOP models, but I like corvus belli and would rather give them my support for this hobby.
